One thing to keep in mind, Procreate developers have already announced that they are removing pressure sensitivity support for non-Apple Pencil styluses. So the the other brands won’t be able to be used to full potential very soon.
Great review! For me, the largest drawback of the Apple Pencil is that I can never seem to get a secure grip on it. I’ve tried a couple of sleeves, but got my best results with masking tape.
Fun fact, you can get grip-tape (the stuff usually used for raquettes etc) and use it with the pencil, it makes it alot more comfortable and is super sleek
For the price they charge for the damn thing, you'd think they would actually make it more tactile to hold, look cool or something- but no. It's a mass produced made in China product, and you need to ADD to it to make it more usable.
Thanks for this review which is helpful since I will be doing a presentation concerning digital art in a class where most of the participants have mild cognitive impairment which includes me as well. Art is proven to help those with MCI. Since I use Procreate I will be recommending your drawing videos and reviews such as what you have done concerning using different pencils. I pIan on doing a simple drawing where I will have differed participants doing aspects of it on different layers so they can see how simple it can be to do a drawing. I so appreciate your in-structural encouragement as you suggest not to get to bogged down with doing it at your proficiency but to do it the best you can. You are such a good ambassador for Procreate and iPads which have encouraged my purchases in these areas.
I have the KXT and for what I need it for, I would say it’s really good! As said in the video, it’s accurate and smooth, but there are a few things to consider. One is that for me, I keep accidentally clicking on the power button and switching it off. I might just be clumsy but it’s quite annoying. The battery life is excellent, it lasts a long time and I don’t feel like I have to constantly charge it. The final thing for me personally, is since the tip isn’t the absolute finest, it’s sometimes not as accurate as it could be. It is still accurate, but if you’re an artist I honestly think you’d be better off with an Apple Pencil. I am in no way an artist, but I do like to do sketches and research using it, mainly for fun. I think this review was really good and helpful, but this is my opinion on the KXT.
@@JamesJulier-Artist you don’t get pressure sensitivity like you say, but I rarely rely on that as I use concepts app and GoodNotes and Drawboard for pdf mark ups. My ultimate wish is a pen with a inbuilt rubber tip and is moulded like a mechanical pencil with this tip…
This is perfect!! I’m looking for an alternative for my daughter! She’s almost 6 (in April), loves drawing, and is very good at it, so I want her to have a stylus to use on her iPad. She has 6th Gen iPad, and even tho it would be the 1st Gen pencil, idk if I wanna spend the money. She’s 5, and may lose it 🤷🏽♀️. This gives me some good alternatives to check out!! Thanks so much!! Oh, I didn’t hear it mentioned, but is scratching the screen ever a concern? She’s not particularly heavy-handed, but anything is possible. 😅
Not so much scratching the screen, as the nibs are plastic and the screen is harder. I’d stay away from the penyeah as that would scratch if she uses the normal pen.
i was quite skeptical of the apple pencile. i love how long it is, i can hold its rear side easily and sketch and shade like how i do in real life. i have to give apple credit for this
I have kingone upgraded stylus pen in 2000 rs which is roughly around 25$ and 20 pounds and it’s super responsive, been using it for 1 years and it’s working flawlessly. Highly recommended
Apparently majority of third party styluses are for new iPads. So far for my 1st gen air I’ve only found two proper ones on AliExpress (unfortunately one got destroyed by domestic accident) so I get my iPad is especially old and I’ll be looking up my next iPad with Apple Pencil support (I’d love 2nd gen but if not then this video has given me loads of alternatives) I’ve been eyeing the Logitech one for a long while now (also I’d love to find something I can use on my iPhone too as the one I have now is slightly laggy and not always most precise but if I’m on the go or somewhere not home I’m on my phone) Also I’ve never been able to use the ones with the squishy silicone top. For some reason I just tear those apart (or maybe it’s because of the screen protector which isn’t the paper type but regular one)
Ok I’m curious, did you upgrade your iPad or planning to soon? I have the first gen air too and I just bought a 3rd gen 12.9 pro, I’ll order a third party stylus from like amazon, one that resembles the Apple Pencil 2 cuz I have logo mania and want people to think I actually have the Apple Pencil lol. I think 1st gen air users like us need to finally move on, even as I’m writing this my keyboard is lagging a lot
@@AlvinaMuneer hi, I have iPad Air 2nd generation, any recommendations? Do you know if any of these stylus from the video such us the sanfant stylus are useful? I really only need it for taking notes for college so the only thing I’d need is palm rejection and decent precission. Thanks
@@javito5rgv487 please. Did you find any informations regarding Sanfont pencil or any alternative of apple pencil 1 that support scrible and palm rejection?
I got my Apple Pencil gen 2 for $55 and the gen 1 for $50. On fb marketplace. Both were brand new basically with the box and everything. I only thing I had to get extra was the lightning adapter for the gen 1.
I just sold my 11" iPad Pro from 2019 looking forward to replace it with a newer one. Alas, I sold it to another artist so I had to include the Apple Pencil 2 in the sale as well (didn't want to but oh well). The Apple Pencil is the best stylus I've ever used after lots of experience with Wacom and other brand tablets and to see the cheap knockoffs not really getting to the precision and grace level of the original Pencil, well... guess my best bet will be to hope for a renewed version on Amazon if I don't want to pay full price for a new Pencil.
Did I only watch this to see the KXT review yes yes I did and I’m so glad I did I think it must just be the drawing apps I’ve used since it does sometimes lag for me and there is no tilt
I’m tickled that in 2023 there’s still a question of whether there are legitimate alternatives to the Apple Pencil 😅 (yet, here I am, watching another video on the topic😂) I’d probably have at least two spare Pencil 2’s if I’d saved the money wasted from all the 3rd-party styli I have bought since my first iPad Pro in 2015. In fact, I ended up ‘gifting’ the several I still had left laying around to my sis, who recently bought an iPad model that doesn’t have Pencil support, so she could decide which type she preferred. Also, considering that popular apps like Procreate are discontinuing support for 3rd-party styli*, I’d stress buying the Apple Pencil even more, particularly for artists (who I imagine comprise the majority of your YTube audience). If you’re going to spend hundreds (at least) on the iPad _Pro,_ do yourself the favor and just add that $130 into the cost of the device and get the Pencil. I’ve had my Pencil 2 since late 2020 when I got the 4th Gen Pro, and haven’t lost nor broken it, but I don’t have kids or pets, and rarely transport the iPad/Pencil outside anymore, so I may just be an optimal-environment usage case. One thing I’m certain of is I’ll never use anything other than the Apple Pencil as long as I own an iPad ☺️ _(*) The Crayon was built w/Apple Pencil technology, according to Procreate’s FAQs, so that one should still be supported in the app._
I’m a beginner using Procreate to learn how to draw. I have one of the £20 stylus’s and the only problem I have is that a lot of the tutorials out there are of course done with an IPencil. Because of that fact some of them can’t be followed closely, even the beginner ones as a lot use the fact that the IPencil tapers or they use a lighter or heavier pressure. Now for beginners I guess we shouldn’t worry about that but I find it stresses me out as I have to keep stopping the tutorial to alter the width or opacity of the line. Is there an alternative between a compatible stylus at around £20 and the IPencil at £100+ that has a version of the pressure sensitivity?
Should have mentioned kingone stylus also. I use this one very similar to waffle Pencil 2 with magnetic charging & pairing e very cheap & durable to original product
I am a Student and I need an apple pen for my school but I think the real one is too expensive so I need one that is like yknow fake or cheap one that have palm regestion and have flat edge that can stick to the iPad and I don’t need it to draw I just need it to write some work so I don’t need some Apple Pencil that is gonna be able to change the tips or something
If I were you, I would use the Apple Pencil is not the other pencils because it’s super smooth at the inside and the outside it’s kind of like you’re holding a real pencil
It also pairs and charges via the magnet, but essentially yes. For most artists pressure sensitivity is highly important though, for me it’s worth every extra dollar for that feature I use daily.
My 1st gen pencil just got broken a few days ago so I'm looking for an alternative compatible with Ipad pro 9.7 inch. Can someone tell me what's the best to buy pls? thanks a lot
I bought the clone Pencil. The only difference thatI have noted is the battery widget on my iPad 10 will not show the charge percentage of my clone Pencil. I will buy an Apple Pencil when funds permit. I did buy a clone magnetic charger for my Pencil and it works fine.
The top piece is not for if the battery dies, cmon man. It’s for the functions your pen can’t perform like swiping home and accessing the control center.
@@JamesJulier-Artist Because I have a pen in that hand and I’m holding the IPad in the other. It’s more natural to flip it like to erase than it is to readjust so I can use my finger.
I disagree personally i constantly use a combination of pencil and fingers on screen. Pinch to zoom, rotate, two finger erase, three finger swipe for copy and paste and more gestures are in constant use with fingers on the same hand that holds the stylus in apps like procreate. So flipping the stylus around for me would probably be less convenient 🤷♂️
Hi James I just make comments on photographs but mainly engineering first draft drawings I also have purchased 3 apple pencils just failed due to what I would say through light damage though a lot of American travel plus making references in NOTES which would you recommend cheers BRIAN
This video was exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this: I'm looking for a stylus for my daughter's iPad... she is going on 8 years old and is interested in video editing and just being creative with digital media. We've gone through a couple of cheaper pens (around $10 USD, no name brand worth mentioning...) that broke very easily when dropped. I was wondering which of these would hold up to a kid's usage at a budget price... is the Penyear fairly durable, for example, because the price is right and seems to offer lots of utility, but if it breaks upon first drop, it's kind of useless.
EVERYONE! Logi IS NOT A BEST TO BUY! when I bought it it was working but after Tami’s birthday party, it wasn’t working and I charged it and charged it forever! But it still won’t work! Also it’s £60 pounds so don’t waste ur money!
If any of y’all have an Apple product that needs to be fixed, do not go to Apple because the only thing they know how to do is build their stuff, not fix it. I’ve seen many videos of Apple, just saying no and then another person from another store said they can fix it even though Apple said they couldn’t so do not go to Apple. If you have an Apple product that’s broken don’t cause it’s not worth your time. And the thing is I’m a 14-year-old saying that if any of y’all like to know my age that’s me but yeah I just don’t. I’m stating facts here y’all please don’t come after me. 😢
I would suggest that if you have the option to buy an Apple original product, you should go for it. Most people who use Apple products are quite discerning, and some even have a bit of OCD. The price and quality are directly proportional, and once you discover something that isn't quite up to par with Apple's original product, you'll become hyper-aware of the issue and it will be magnified infinitely. You may even curse every time you use it... So, it's best to buy the original Apple product. Although it may be more expensive, Apple's quality is second to none.🤣😂
I throw the package of my pencil in the trash so i really don’t remember what was it but its none of these that were in the video, however it just doesn’t write when i put my hand on the ipad while holding it,it starts glitching and deleting what im trying to write,it basically only writes when no skin touches the screen,im a highschool student and i really need a nice one to only write notes with at least, what do u suggest me to get??
I have one that actually charges just like the Apple Pencil 2 - I wish you had tried one of those bc I’m curious to hear what you might think of it. It was only around $32 usd.
The stupid part is that the pen should have palm rejection, but I think the damn ipad should have it for that price, how hard is it detecting a palm on the screen
I've used a Logi pencil and a Kailfee Stylus Pen, and I've gotta say I personally had a better experience with the Kailfee stylus. - The Logi Pencil Didn't feel nice to hold in my hand because of its shape, because I am more used to circular drawing tools. Really sucked at doing circles. Charging was annoying, battery felt shorter than Kailfee Stylus. But was a nice experience nonetheless!! - Kailfee Stylus Pen Felt way better in my hand, allowed me to draw more efficiently and comfortably Awesome at circles and lines Clicked into my head exactly how to use it at first glance. MAGNETIC!! 3 little buttons tell you the battery percentage. BATTERY WAS SHORT LIKE LOGI PEN, SO CHARGING WAS A NIGHTMARE- Awesome experience though!! As long as you have a portable charger :'D
wait. were my eyes playing on me? i saw your Apple pencil skin isn't shiny!? my Apple Pencil is so hard to hold because the skin is so slippery. If you have the pen that's easy to hold to the point you can play with it then may i ask for where i could get that? I'm so f up with my Apple pen.
We got the logitech crayon from our school.. I hate it. It’s so uncomfortable in ur hands. It’s so cheap. Especially the rubber on the top! U can take it off extremely easily. Not only is it a safety hazard for kids from 5-7, it’s also something that could damage the charging port if u lose it. Don’t buy it, I’d rather buy the Apple Pencil first Gen instead of saving 40$/£..
My Apple Pencil has been out of use for a long time I tried all the solutions but it didn't work Change the tip of the pen Disconnect and connect Bluetooth Full charge of the pen and... It is disappointing
