They should have emphasized the fact that the S-Pen is included at no extra charge. The S-Pen is by far more superior in every aspect except for build quality - which is arguably excusable since it's free.
Yep, for something that is included, its great. Technically Apple Pencil and Surface Pen seems superior, but they are not pre-included and rather expensive to buy.
As somebody who owns all three of them and writing is the main purpose of using a tablet, s pen is THE superior pen. Hands down. If you love writing on a glass board with hard plastic go with apple. No real reason to use surface whatsoever. S pen feels like actual writing and the responsiveness of having that line coming instantly from the tip of the pen I am using is what I am talking about. Surface pen slim 2 is clearly lagging behind and you can just see it by using them side by side. Apple pencil 2 is better than surface pen slim 2 but you still glide on the glass. This video is seriously biased to Apple. Probably the person uses iPad all the time and got used to the glass feeling but unless you don't care about Apple taking your money with the hype and "design". Gotta go with spen if you actually want to enjoy writing
On the Samsung side, you should have assessed the options from staedtler as well as the Wacom one stylus. These are some of the most popular alternatives and are 30 bucks a pop.
This video was not convincing at all, the question was between the pens no one asked for what apps support what, etc...and the s pen is better in all aspects except for build quality, considering the fact that it's free
Apple pen is just superior 💪💪 with pro level software support, its just a fact, not only that Apple pen also have so many 3rd part tips that you could buy, Apple air m1 with Apple pen 2 pair with that metal tips and paperlike, bah! Super!! Can but used for professional artist and could be used for just writing, to good
All this talk about stylus types for the various tablets doesn’t address the issue of quality applications and usefulness of the tablets themselves. I have used both Apple and Samsung and found the iPad to be worth its weight in gold…not so for Samsung.
You need to try the new Samsung s7/s8 line. I used to have an iPad, but they second I tried the spen on the new Samsung tabs I was hooked. The only necessary apps are all there, ipad literally has nothing on samsung at this point
@@spaceman-pe5je not everyone is artist brain dead. He literally said ‘only necessary apps’. Just like me, many want tablets for academic purposes and Samsung notes is flawless compared to Apple notes. To be honest Samsung notes is on the same league as notability and good notes.

As an owner of both the ipad/pencil and tab s7+ with the FREE included spen, I can say without hesitation that the Samsung offers a far superior pen experience. It's like writing with an actual pen on a notebook. Apple has alot of catching up to do at this point.
@@anemone8057 yes, the apple pencil has a weird hard plastic on glass feel, and along with the loud annoying clacking oh, there's also no friction so it's very hard for me to write neatly. My already bad handwriting went to nearly illegible

the comments on the video are more useful than the actual video. Even without knowing much about stylus, the reviewer felt very biased to apple, glad I read the comments, they seems way more unbiased with actual reasonings for their choices
Terrible biased comparison. The S Pen is way superior not only in feeling on hand, but also in functionality compared to the other two. The S pen doesn't need charging, and it's included with the Samsung tablets that support it. This reviewer flat out lied about the durability of the nibs on the spen as well, the nibs are durable and its easy to find third party replacements online if ever needed it. Edit: typos.
All of the active styluses require charging. To the best of my knowledge, it’s just that the S own and Apple Pencil can be charged wirelessly when docked which gives you the illusion that it doesn’t need to be changed when in reality, one uses a capitate while the other uses a battery
@@chrischoy9S pen needs charge for air actions, but not for writing. You can turn off air actions if you don't use them and never charge the spen ever again and it will still work. It is a different technology.
Pressure sensitivity? Tilt function? Yeah, no. There's a reason why artists buy an iPad instead of a Samsung tablet, the Apple Pencil is comparable to wacom's pen.
@@alfanscholz8663Yup, it has both pressure sensitivity AND tilt functions. It has better functionality. More customizibility of that functionality, and also a more "paper" feel to it. It doesn't need charge ro work, and the "battery" doesn't deteriorate over time since it's just a capacitor. But the Apple Pencil does feel sturdier. I have both the apple pencil gen 2 (iPad Air 5) and a Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra with Spen.
This is really a half-assed review. No mention of the fact some of them have erase function built into the back of the pen? Really the cheapest pen option is any of the smaller wacom pens, which can be had from as low as $10. Plus, wacom/samsung S-Pen is the only one of these options that doesn't require a battery & comes with the pen standard. Personally, for me as a note taker I will stick with either with the older Surface Pro Pen from the SP6 generation with replaceable batteries or a Wacom AES based device. I can use the pen as long as I keep finding AAAA batteries, which my local Walgreens sells. No need to replace the whole pen when the battery can't hold a charge.
Air Actions with the S pen, huge miss in this review. Remote shutter for the camera, run power point presentations from the stylus... What about converting handwriting to text? I have terrible penmanship, my galaxy tab can keep pace with the native software. The ability to draw is just one facet of these accessories. Would have expected a more well rounded review from wsj.
You really should have compared the S Pen Pro along with the others (they are at that level)... My first impression by watching the video is that the Samsung's stylus is terrible in comparison, whereas we know it ain't true since the one compared here was the cheaper version....
😆 if you look closely on how he tested the pens you can see that he hasn't laid his palm on the screen 😆 probably because he's so used to the apple pencil S-pen users know

@Leo The Apple Pencil is always very slippery on the screen. S Pen is the best Pen you can get for a tablet. No batteries required and it has 9ms response time.
There are offered replacements for the S pen, and why did you review $120-$130 pens against Samsung's $60 pen when they also offer an S Pen Pro that is $100 and is more geared towards this higher market

If you are in Android and Microsoft you got: Clip Studio Paint, Infinite Painter, Krita, Medibang, Affinity Photo, Line Sketch, Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, etc... He only mentions Photoshop after that... can take this review seriously 😂
Unfortunately I can't speak for the Apple and Surface Pen because I never used them but only the S Pen and it's definitely a cool pen, the air gestures are a bit gimmicky but they're there and if you need them you're covered, the drawing is fine (I'm not an artist so I can't give proper feedback about that) and it came with my Tablet which is great because I wouldn't have considered it at all.
What's bad about Surface Pen are the Surface Pros screen are really soft and so when you put pressure with the pen tip you can feel the screen being pushed in.
Is it for all the surface pros or specific surface pro. I am trying to buy Surface Pro 9. For my note taking and i don't type much most of my note includes mathematical equations and physics derivation.
@@goclip9381 You will be fine for note taking. It’s a dealbreaker for me only because I do a lot of digital painting as a hobby, and even that depends on personal preference. But as far as note taking goes it is great.
Come on… that was weird… I have used the SPen and Apple Pencil. The S pen for writing is far superior. Feels like writing on a notebook. The Apple Pencil… in a glass. I hate that tapping sound. I am searching for a tip replacement for the Apple Pencil to feel like the S Pen. If anyone knows, I would love to hear from you.
Apple should be awake because competition is catching up? Uhmmm smart styluses were already a thing since the Galaxy Note from 2012 .. and every year Samsung kept improving the formula by adding functionality, and new wireless control features.
@@chrischoy9 i would want to say that Apple is excelling at it, but reviewing the features they added in 2022, reminded me too that those features have been present from other devices with Wacom technology for years. i do want to give them credit for the design, ease of use and ergonomics of the pencil.
Owner of all three, there is really no comparison between the three... surface pro slim pen is 3rd without question, the Apple pen has the length as a positive but the tip is terrible unless one adds the drawing film to the iPad, by far the closest to real writing and drawing is the Spen, and I've written hundreds of notes and made dozens multi layers drawings and still haven't had to change the nib, and when taking into account all the functionality of the spen in terms of software integration it blows them both out the water. Also the review should have been done with the Tab S8 Ultra which is Samsung's largest and most powerful device and takes both drawing and note taking to another level given the screen real estate and best screen quality given super amoled deep blacks, etc.
also the air actions in spen and the nib is replacable. i owned a note 9 . i got a 3 nibs of different hardness and a tool to replace then nib included with the box . and older sansung tablets had replacaple nibs . and the nibs i got with my note 9 are as same as those nibs of tablet s pens. the switched to irreplacable nibs in s22 u and s23 u (not sure about tablets). but they switched back to replacible spen nib with s24 ultra
He was clearly biased towards Apple. Wouldn't surprise me if they were sponsored. CSP is one of the best overall and beats procreate on every level. CSP even has a simple mode if you want that procreate feel.
Huge android fan boy here. I also hate styluses that need charging That said the tips of the wacom pens are a deal breaker for me. They wear down quickly and taper so abruptly that i have a hard time accurately gauging tip location when drawing I currently use an ipad mini 6 and AP2, but I'm looking to upgrade to a surface laptop studio with a slim pen 2
Bruh if you're an android fanboy buy the Tab S9 or S8, the S Pen is included free in the box, it doesn't require charging to write only for Bluetooth features like taking pictures with the S Pen and the nib gives the closest feel to writing on paper. Also Samsung DeX is better than anything Apple has in offer.

As an artist i HATE friction or vibrating styluses .... I strongly prefer the samsung styluses...theyre the smoothest and they have pressure sensitivity

I would check out some of the reviews of the paper like screen protector. Turns out it eats away at the tip. My friend purchased the screen protector and it ended up breaking her pencil within few months due to the rough texture eating away at the tip. Its similar to rubbing an apple pen on concrete.

Yup, but you need to buy from good brand tho, a cheap 5$ paperlike Will eat away your tips most likely, i buy cheap one because i'm on budget, its been almost 2 year and i just change the tips 3 month ago, thank fully there so much off brand Apple pen tips that i can buy, and its doesn't Matter if my screen got scratch, its a screen protector after all
As an Ipad user, I’m gonna say Spen is indeed miles ahead. I still love my Ipad coz the software works well for me, but writing with apple pencil kinda sucks, it ain’t as accurate and the tip is too bulky, and the writing feel is meh
I use the S-pen, though it comes free the nib is soft and I get annoyed by that a bit and I prefer a hard tip. It is also very thin and a bit uncomfortable to hold.
recently started using the first version of the apple pencil after a couple of years of using the s pen, and the apple pencil is WAY too heavy, it feels way too top heavy hand the tip is not thin enough in my opinion
Expensive doesn't equal overpriced and cheaper doesn't mean better deal. I think this is the most important thing a young adult can learn before buying a tablet pen.
But when talking about the difference between a $180 plastic pencil and a free pen included with the tablet, that can't go without consideration. The spen is a superior writing experience. Period. I've tried both and the hard plastic tip clacking on a glass screen is a no from me dog.
1:50 I think I fine just getting a Matte screen protector than that haptic feedback, since the haptic feedback might introduce more wear on the screen and damage it or scratch it up.
That's not true, there are many lesser known brands using Wacom AES, EMR(like the S-Pen) or MPP/N-Trig(any surface after the Pro 2). Plus, there is USI, which is technically an open standard that anyone can use & comes on many ChromeOS devices that aren't using one of the Wacom models.
The apple pencil rolls the same as one with a flat side. One of the parts of it is weighted so it stops rolling possibly betger than some styluses with flat sides.
