A bumper crop of apples in Somerset this autumn means one thing - fresh apple juice! Once you’ve tasted this golden nectar you’d never buy shop stuff again. It really doesn’t take much to do: an apple scratter (bucket with a shredder blade attached to a drill) to pulp the apples and a small inexpensive press to extract the juice from the pulp, job done.

I've pressed apples every autumn for the last few years Mark, it's nectar of the gods... it's so good that it's usually gone by Christmas. Then again I don't have to tell you about apples, you being a Herefordshire man ‘n all!

@@MrAndyballard Aaah, I bet it does taste good Andy and is satisfying prepping it yourself to. I may try it in the future. Your press looked just about the right size. As for apples - yeah there are a few around here.

bedankt Wim! it's a bumper season here in the UK for apples, so many everywhere... why would you go to the store & buy inferior juice when you can have the best stuff for free! (with a little effort)

@@MrAndyballard Totally right! We are in a rural area for the last year, and every saturday they have a market with little farmers that sell their produce right from the land. Including all kinds of fruit. Way better!

Nice one. It doesn't take much more to turn it into cider to be honest, just add a tiny bit of yeast and leave it in the demi-john for a few months... and voila!
