5:00 The Bigger Screen Makes a Difference
6:54 Why Did They Make This Laptop?
7:59 Conclusion
The 15in MacBook air, physically is the 13in macbook air but bigger. It still has the same design, it has the same magsafe port, and the same 2 thunderbolt ports. It has the same keyboard, the same webcam, and the same color options. But, there are some differences between them too. You can narrow it down on one hand. The screen is bigger, the battery is bigger to account for that bigger screen, it has better speakers, it comes with the 35W dual port power brick, and it comes with a 10-core GPU standard compared to the 13 inches' 8-core gpu.
But if that’s it, how is it in day to day life? Performance wise, it’s nearly identical to the 13in air. It’s snappy at your standard tasks, web browsing, watching youtube videos, writing documents, viewing PDFs, you name it. It can handle some light video editing in FCPX and I can edit photos just fine in Affinity with no noticeable stuttering. Overall, it’s been pretty solid. It behaves like how M2 chips behave. Good. But let’s talk about the 15in screen size, and the speakers. The larger screen size makes it so much easier to multi-task with just the laptop’s display. On the 13in air, I feel like it was harder to consistently have 2 apps open, but with the 15in I had multiple apps open more often. It was also nicer for watching videos, and the speakers sound really good. I’ve been spoiled by good MacBook speakers and it makes it hard to listen to other laptops. This one is no exception. The speakers sound great, even better than the 13in. Battery life feels super similar to the 13in. The port situation is also exactly like the 13in macbook air, it’s all on the left side except for the lonely headphone jack on the right. This laptop also only supports one external monitor in conjunction with the laptop’s display. But, because the screen is big, it makes a perfect single external monitor companion, with plenty of usable space on that 15in display to use as a secondary monitor.
So, there are quite a few ways that this laptop is better. But at the trade-off of size. But is the size really a negative? I have with me the 3 laptops people might be comparing this 15in air to. The 13in air ,14in macbook pro and 16in macbook pro for that screen size. My main machine is actually the 14in macbook pro. And despite having a smaller screen, it weighs more than the 15in MacBook air. And you can really feel it in your hand. Especially with how dense the 14in pro is. The 15in air is really thin and light for a 15in laptop. The 16in Pro is heavy, at around 4.5lbs but because the 15in air isn’t using the beefier processors, chonky battery and fancier features of the higher end “Pro” macs, This thing has very little fat. So, despite being large, it just feels like an oversized tablet in the hand and doesn’t feel heavy in my backpack. Because the 14in and 16in pros weight more and are denser, you can definitely feel their weight when you pull them out or use them. When compared to the 13in air, it feels slightly heavier. But you do notice the extra width. It feels like a giant tablet rather than a big computer. The 15in air feels like the best of both worlds, it's big but relatively light. Also, it’s just so much nicer to chill on the couch with this lightweight big screen laptop, vs a smaller laptop. It makes it easy to get some on-the-go multi-tasking in. The only complaint I can think of for this size, is cramped spaces like airplane seats, where you might not have enough space for this bigger laptop.
So should you get the 15in MacBook air? The larger display is better for multi-taskers, media consumption, and makes the one external monitor limitation more bearable and be a better on-the-go machine. If I were looking for a macbook right now. I think I’d personally look at the 15in first since I can see myself using all that extra screen real estate, so if you’re the type of person who constantly multi-tasks on the go, instead of focusing on a single task at a time. Then start at this 15in macbook air. I think this 15in macbook air is a great addition to Apple’s lineup and it’s going to be super popular for the non-heavy video editing, coding, photo editing, more productivity based users.

So many reviewers concentrate on what 5% of users want. 95% of users will adore this MacBook.

its simple, this 15in air was made for 90% of laptop buyers. since most people don't know or even need all the power the MacBook Pro has, this 15in air is easily the one to get.

Yeah, the 16 inch pro ways wayyy more than I expected, even much more than my 15 inch pro from a few years back. This seems like a really nice light alternative, glad they went bigger than 13” with the air.

Great video! Got my 15" MBA arriving on Monday. I don't do much intense work, mainly productivity based stuff but I've always loved the idea of a 15" screen. Went for the 16GB RAM upgrade just to future-proof a little.

Thank you for a concise review. Difficulty comes if you upgrade the RAM to 16 GB and the hard drive to 512 GB as the cost nears the price to the 14 inch MacBook Pro.

In the UK, one current deal is £150 off the MB Air M2 15-inch 512GB/8GB. That is £550 less than the cheapest M2 MB Pro 14. Both new. You get 8GB more RAM on the Pro and a few extras but I think I would take the £550. The M1 MB Pro 14 is no longer sold and there are no refurbs. The MB Pro 14 M2 refurbs are not much cheaper than the above.

HI Jimmy, I bought my new Macbook Air 13" in 2022, and it didn't offer the mag safe connection at that time. I would've preferred the larger one but being on a tight budget I had to go for the smaller brother. As for the multi tasking I've gotten used to using multi desktops and just swiping between them; it just works for me. The only gripe I have is with the glass screen. It always shows my finger prints from opening it up.

I love mine, it's perfect for what I need. I'm an IT Manager and, because I'm older (and blinder), a 13" laptop just isn't on my radar. This fits the bill perfectly. I can finally dump my Lenovo laptop that may or may not have a charge when I need it and I now have something that just works when I need it to.

It’s very very impressive and the fact that I have the 2020 Intel i3 MacBook Air and upgrading to this MacBook Air M2 15 in 2023 , im definitely going to excited when I get it since it will be my first MacBook with the new M2 chip when I never had an M1 chip MacBook so it’s going to very interesting but yet excited for the performance despite many MANY negative reviews on it and people saying “get a MacBook Pro m1 “ like the M2 chips are a bit more powerful

I'm loving my base model 13" M2 Air for productivity work. I think it's the perfect companion to my M1 Mini with 32" monitor desk setup. However, if I only had one computer and no monitor, I would be more tempted by the 15". However, I have had two 15" MBPs years ago. When I switched to a 13" MBP in 2015, I realized how much nicer and more convenient the smaller size is. But now that the 15" Air is so light weight... They're both great!

I use super small font-size on my m1 Macbook air (1920x1200-ish size). I wish there was a 15" model back then as I can't justify the upgrade now.

I still think I'd rather go with a specced out 13 inch Pro, personally, because the notch has annoyed me every time I use the display units at Costco, the touch bar does have potential and I want to ride it out in its last days, and the battery life is the second longest of the whole lineup. Probably wait for the M3 and see if they keep the same design, though. My thinking is future proofing; 16GB/1TB should reduce NAND wear to levels where I can get 20, 30 years out of it, and I'd rather the battery wear down to 13" Air levels than the 13" Air wears down the same amount.

The best review of the MacBook Air Plus, well done. Midnight is a stunner, even with a clear clam shell, reminds me of the carbon fibre on my all time favourite Windows laptop, the XPS 15.

Why is everyone ignoring the backlight bleed issue when watching dark content. Not surprised given the shitty LCD panel apple used. I returned my 15 inch macbook for another one and both had the issue. It's the same as smaller m2 air.

Apple is really good at their ladder pricing. They can literally sell a laptop that throttles, no fan, no xdr display, no extra ports and hard or impossible to repair for nearly the same price as the macbook pro-and for what? Because it’s lighter and has a bigger display? I recommend purchasing this machine at base model if you need a light device with bigger screen and never upgrade and just save that money for something else. (Else, upgrade if you have a lot of money to burn) Orrrr…. Better yet, just buy a refurb device for much less. Even the 16” M1 Macbook Pro is way better for $250 more. Amazon for way cheaper 16”. Or just comp with the 14” Macbook Pro (Odd to call macbook pro as compromise) they are way cheaper than this but with great tech and GPU Perf @ $1500+. 15” is an expensive compromise laptop in a nutshell. Apple is such a rip off. 🤣🤣🤣 Here I am using a 14” Macbook Pro 🥴

Only 2 good things about it: A) Bigger screen than the M2 Air. B) Better sound system. Otherwise, might as well get the base model M1 MBP 14-inch or the base model M1 MBP 16-inch at the same price or lower.
