Apple's Repair Trap Explained: Understanding The Anti-Repairability With iPhones

Over the years Apple has been locking more and more features behind a software wall when it comes to 3rd party repairs. In today's video we go over the components that are effected by doing a repair along with the features that will be locked.

Screen
Replacing the screen will affect all iPhones 14-7 where True Tone and Auto Brightness will be disabled. This problem is fairly easy to overcome. By using a programmer, we are able to grab all the information from the original screen and upload it to the new screen.
Even by doing this, we will still see within settings a non-genuine parts message appears where Apple throws us a message stating the display is seen as an unkown part. This message may seem scary at first but in reality it is a message relating to the serial number on the screen. In which the serial number doesn't align with the one assigned to the motherboard. For that reason Apple will throw a error message towards us. This message only really means that the screen we have installed in not the original screen and doesn't mean the screen is defective.
Battery
Changing out the battery will affect iPhone 14-XS where battery health will be removed and we are greeted with a non-genuine parts message. To resolve this we will need to remove a small board from the original battery called the Battery Management System (BMS). With the BMS off we can spot weld it on a new battery attached with a flex connector in order to whip the battery cycles down to 0 to have a battery with 100%.
Rear Camera
Rear Camera replacement will affect iPhones 14-12 and we will get a genuine parts message.
Front Camera
Changing out the front camera assembly will disable Face ID for iPhone 14-X and for the iPhones that don't use FaceID it will disable TrueTone. We are able to repair the front camera by taking just the camera off the assembly and replacing it with a new camera. A lot of caution needs to be used because all these parts are close to each other.

I might give that a shot! I really enjoy how Hugh Jeffrey voice overs while doing a repair and going in depth on the steps/difficulties with each project hes working on. I think that idea could do really well in the Flipping For Profit Series. Thanks for the suggestion!

You can use a JCID programmer to reprogram the old serial to the new screen etc

@fmarketing7894 I've never seen this work, soldering the touch ic from the old screen to the new screen is the only way I've seen get rid of the non genuine parts message

@@BirdManPhil I know what's going on, and I'll explain. So, the programmer trick will work, but only on the iPhone 8, 8+, X, XS, XS Max, and XR. On all of the iPhone 11 models, it's weird. If you reprogram the new screen, the Non-genuine part message will still show up, but you'll still get auto brightness and true tone working. However, on the iPhone 12 and newer, the reprogramming trick doesn't work, because the data is encrypted. This means, the only way to trick the phone into thinking it's the original screen is to physically transplant that chip to the new screen. You would need to know how to microsolder in order to do that. This is only for the flagship iPhones. IDK about the iPhone SE 2 or 3. Anyways, thought I'd clear it up since I knew.

For the programmer most electronics parts stores should carry them. My go to supplier is Injured Gadgets and they usually have them in stock but there are many out there. If you are willing to wait a bit, aliexpress is another option to get a programmer. It will take up to a month to arrive from China so make sure to budget that time when it comes to a repair! There are a lot of different programmers out there, but I used the JCID programmer in this video. I plan to make a video in the future reviewing the programmer and even though it is a really solid, I do have some issues against it. Thanks for the question!
