Another tech site said they would break contact inside where it bends. mine never works or responds to anything anymore like when you bent back and forth, nothing with mine. I would bet that's what has happened to mine and others that would not quick fix various ways. Thanks
I called Apple to see if I could get them to repair or replace it. They said that since the 1 year warranty was over (its 1 year and 6 months old) that I could pay to have it repaired or replace for $180. I can almost buy a new one for that amount so no. The reason I buy Apple products is because the always (use to) stand behind their products and guarantee the quality. I'm not going to pay extra to warranty products I already pay a premium for. Their inability to recognize that this is a design flaw and make it right will influence my buying decisions in the future. I bought Apple stuff in the past and had peace of mine that they make sure their products worked, no questions asked. For myself and my family I have purchased dozens of iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, Macbook Pros, Accessories, etc. and to be left hanging like this on an expensive product that fails through regular use is more than dissapointing.
The electrical connections that pass though the flexible fabric hinges typically fracture - this usually resulting in errors and/or the on-screen notification that you see. I found this on apple discussions and its really disappointing to see fall of quality from apple
Same problem as mine. fixed it by laying it open and flat facing upward, then using a round pen and rolled it in the corner of the folding portion of the keyboard where the problem started and apply a little amount of pressure to flatten the fold. Maybe it got folded to an irregular way because of opening and closing it.
I also recommend after fixing it, dont use the keyboard in tablet mode( where the keyboard is back to back with the ipad). Just remove the tablet if you want to use it as a tablet because the problem might come back because its being folded in the opposite direction.
Wow!!! This helped me solve my issue. I’m surprised how apple could put out such a garbage product. Anyways, my current solution is just putting a small banana clip to the back So it doesn’t flop back lol …
Hi maybe I am stupid and mine just works fine but everytime I use the button to skip forward a youtube video by 10 seconds it just doesn’t react like it did once ago? Is that normal? Did anyone of you experience the same problem? Or does anybody have a solution?
I called Apple and they wouldn't fix it. So now mine is just used as a magnetic case. When the new magic keyboards came out later that year I refused to buy one. If Apple isn't standing behind an overpriced product then I wont buy them anymore.
Mine does this as well, for 200€ i paid for it its horrible to see that it does this only after 2-3 years of regular use, I baby my devices, so I am extra surprised :D I usually do the same thing with the seam and it starts working again, but yeah, sometimes it floods my iPad with “this accessory is not supported with this device”
Yeah man. It pissed me off that mine was only 18 months old and had this type of failure and that Apple wouldn't make it right. One reason that I felt ok about paying the big price tag for Apple stuff is that they've always stood behind their products which gave me peace of mind. This experience with such a high priced accessory failing because of bad design has forever soured my taste for Apple products. Not that it broke but that they didnt even want to try to make it right, offer a discount on a new one, nothing. We are an Apple household and spend a lot of money on Apple products and are generally very satisfied and happy with our products. But this failure and experience with this accessory is common and Apple offers no redress.
I dont know how to fix it myself. I called Apple but they said I had to pay them almost what it cost for a new one to fix it and they recommended i just buy a new one. I don't like either answer.
@@swire1292 I had thought about cutting the seam open and seeing if I could fix it but I dont think theres any way i could repair the thin strip of flat connections. Ive since moved on and bought an iPad pro in 2018 but I did not buy the smart keyboard ($300). I dont want to waste money if its so badly engineered and wont last for that kind of money.
I feel like an absolute idiot! Mine has been on and off (mostly off) for about 9 months and I couldn’t figure out why it sometimes worked, and sometimes didn’t. Did exactly what you said - and it worked immediately. Thanks so much!!
