UK AVP owner and all i can say is this device is magical, nothing on the market even comes close. The intial review of many of the big RU-vidrs were blown out of proportion like the weight etc..everyone is different of course but my opinion apple have built a awesome device. Thanks for your review Gordon, really enjoyed it. As a fellow Scot I appreciate your dry sense of humour! I was at the Braehead Apple store on Sunday for my demo and it was really amazing! I picked a good time because they were running a bit behind schedule and I basically got a 50 minute demo instead of a 30 minute demo because the store was closing and they didn’t have time for another round of demos. I would have loved to see your reaction to the immersive videos, especially the high wire act and various sports clips. I did my best not to react to any “jump scares” but one basketball made me flinch slightly which the Apple staffer noticed and chuckled at! On extra demo I got was for the Keynote app where I got to stand in the Steve Jobs theatre with the audience in front of me and my presentation content on the screen behind me. I can honestly imagine this would be an amazing tool to practice presentations on. I laughed out loud when you said “f**k it’s in the room” during the dinosaur demo. During my demo in the apple store I could swear I could feel the butterfly sitting on my finger. Anyway, I’m still on the fence whether to buy an AVP or not. I absolutely WANT one and I could buy one through my business. I’m a registered iOS developer and web application developer so am tempted to get one to help inspire ideas for new apps I could create. I would also love to be able to unshackle myself from my desk and dual 5K displays, and be able to roam around the house or garden while still being able to get work done. I just don’t know if the technology is at that stage yet, and if not, will it be able to be brought to the AVP1 via a software update or will it require a hardware revolution to AVP2 or 3? But I have to say, given that my two 5K displays are now nearly 8 years old, if I had to replace them with two new Apple Studio displays at £1500 each, I’d be very tempted to get an AVP instead. On a side note, I love hearing from all the nay sayers who are telling you it’ll be gathering dust on the shelf in 3 months etc. I suspect a lot of that negativity is either coming from employees of Meta and other VR companies who realise they face an existential threat from the AVP, or it’s fans of such companies/products, or it’s just plain old envy. People have such short memories and forget all the ridicule that the iPhone took when it was launched, most famously by Steve Balmer of Microsoft. It didn’t have a keyboard, it was too expensive, heck it didn’t even do cut and paste. And yet it became the most successful product of all time. AirPods were ridiculed for looking “weird” without wires and now wired headphones look weird. Apple Watch was a flop and then it wasn’t. The list goes on…. It’s crystal clear to me that this product will not be abandoned by Apple because they have already invested about 10 years in developing the AR, Apple Silicon and other technologies which have allowed this product to be brought to market. That said, this is clearly a version 1 product, and probably aimed more at developers and content creators to try to kick start the ecosystem which will make the product much more attractive to the mainstream users. It’s very much a chicken and egg situation, and some might say that if Steve Jobs were still alive, he might have let the product bake for another year or two. But at the same time, without content and innovative apps, this product will only ever be a series of cool demos, so I think it’s absolutely the right decision to launch it now. My next step is to get my wife into the Apple store to do a demo and see if she “gets it” the way I did. That might open the door to a purchase, or at least a 14 day extended demo where I can satisfy myself as to whether I can justify it as a business purchase or not. Unfortunately, even if I get the green light from my wife, it’ll probably end up costing me another £4k on something she wants too!

Wow. I’m knackered after reading all that 😂. Thanks for the comment though. I agree with everything you’re saying. I do think we aren’t even scratching the surface with application yet. I do 3D modelling. And if I could get feedback from clients reviewing a model, in VR, together, it would be a game changer. The immersive stuff from Apple is great. I look forward to more of that. There’s an interesting ‘social’ app (can’t remember the name right now) but you meet on your own little room. It will be much better that stuff people already do on VR. A lot of people are going to get less isolated, rather than more.

I got mine day 1 in Canada for the same reason as you so we’ve had them the same amount of time. I agree completely with your final thoughts. I have both a Quest 2 and Quest 3 and I’ve been using them 2-4 hours a day, I’ve tried to use them for productivity and watching movies but couldn’t, it can superficially do the same things but it doesn’t work practically. The screen quality is night and day between the two. I tried the AVP initially with the stock strap and for me it was actually way more comfortable than I expected from watching all the reviews. It’s way more comfortable than the stock strap and facial interfaces on the Quest. I had purchased the Annapro Pressure-Reducing Comfort head strap and with that on it’s more comfortable (for me) than the Quest 3 with the BoboVR halo strap. I’m just working on getting the distance from eyes dialed in. I recognize that this initial product isn’t for the mass market but I believe the foundation they’ve laid down will be. I’m loving it so far and don’t regret the purchase. I’ll probably keep the Quest 3 for gaming but I think it will be gathering dust.

I‘m definitely going to order the 1TB Vision Pro. It is not more expensive than my Apple ][ (with 48 KB RAM and two 5.25 inch Floppy Disk drives) had been, when I bought it in 1982. And at my age I propably don‘t have the luxury to wait for a cheaper version. Unfortunately, I have to wait until 1 August for an appointment with my ophthalmologist to get a prescription for the glasses inserts. But I think it‘s worth the wait. By the way, have you tested the Apple TV app? Is it possible to use more than one iTunes account with it, like it is on the Apple TV 4K? I’ve seen comparison reviews, and there is someone who commented on here who has both, and confirms the experience is so much better on AVP. I’d really recommend getting a demo as a tech enthusiast, even if you have no plans to buy. Also, I really think where this will succeed is in business buying them for senior managers to do remote working and meet (once persona is better) in a far more realistic way. This is the AVP equivalent of the first iPhone. Everyone said to expensive, no-one will buy. Fast forward to 17? Years later and every phone is based on that design. It’s an exciting time :)

Oh and if you find that comment from the guy with both, you could ask him to quantify the difference. I dare say that whatever the difference is, it won’t justify the price difference.

@k.vn.k 2 месяца назад
I have both and AVP is far ahead of Quest 3. It’s hard to describe unless you have both. Everytime I put back my Quest 3 it reminds me of how unreal Vision Pro is. I guess the price difference does not lie.
@fatoldclimber
@fatoldclimber 2 месяца назад
@@k.vn.k I’m not trying to sell anyone on the AVP, but this matches what I’ve heard other people say. I think the issue is some people cannot separate out the price difference when they are comparing.

@@fatoldclimber nobody in their right mind would pay that amount of money for the vision pro. That's stupid. My advice is: test it in an Apple store so you know how cool is it. Then keep living your life normally. All you need is to know how is it, and that is about it. Use that money in something that will make a difference in your life, not in some tech item that cost two or more monthly wages, that will be out of date in one or two years

All I have to say is you can almost get the whole vision pro menu and everything from a app called spatial app on the Quest 3 and now they have the v67 update don't be fooled the Quest does way more than this headset can e er do as this does not feature webxr which is the Internet browser standard amd it allows you to play 1000s of games and Apps with absolutely no download needed just straight into the experience and after using it today I am even more happy with my Quest 3 and my Playstation VR2 is on another level of immersion than any other headset as it has eye tracking headset rumble the only thing I really really like on the Vision Pro is the screen because it reminds me of the PSVR2 screen but just with a higher resolution but Apple screen is a Sony screen so do I really need it

I'm struck by 2 things... 1. Why is RU-vid "hiding" this video from me? I can see the previous video about sit-starts, but neither of the AVP videos show in my subscription feed.... 2. While I can understand how the AVP is a nice piece of tech... I'm really interested in seeing a follow-up video in 3 months (or even a year) from now. Did you wind up using it a lot? How did it get used? What applications were built for it? etc. I've been following VR for a while and own a couple headsets.... but my main use has been games. I'd love to see more use cases and see if/when/how Apple helps move the tech forward.
@fatoldclimber
@fatoldclimber 2 месяца назад
Well, I can answer your question. Because the Vision Pro is technology, and my channel is about climbing, when I posted the video I set it to not announce to subscribers. It’s kind of the done thing when you’re posting something that’s not caught to the channels content. Regarding the second thing, I do plan to use it as much as possible and will publish something into three months as an update. Just so that you know. I’m replying to this comment on the Apple Vision Pro :-)

If you switch between AVP on and off you can see it’s not superb. But when you’re using it you don’t really notice. It also is affected by how bright the conditions are. I’m not really bothered by this as most of the time I expect to be looking at something floating in front of me, rather than the real world :) I’d book a demo with Apple if you have concerns though. Or buy it and if you don’t like it try it.

It won’t be a success because of 3D movies, although 3D movies look better ok this than any other way I’ve seen them. It’ll be a success because of the virtual collaboration it’ll bring I think. And it won’t be consumers that buy it, it’ll be business: not too expensive to them. But, its existence will change things. It has already driven quest 3 sales.
