After taking your well formed argument, which was both informative and humorous, I came to a conclusion of which watch I want. After long consideration and planning, I chose to use the clock on my phone. because I'm broke and can't afford a smart watch. Thank you for reading. Have a nice day.
I liked my Windows Phone more than my current iPhone. There just weren't any damned apps out there. I liked the interface better and the fact that it would stay charged for days. Also, I'm a PC user and it was so easy to use. But, progress marches on.
If window phones had the same apps as google play. I would have stuck with windows. I just don't like the fact of having to update to a new phone because a company purposely slows down the older modle 👎. Which are expensive phones. I'm good with my $170 android that I can use for 3 years (even when dropped more than 30+ tines) or until it breaks. Then buy another for under $200 or a cheapy $30 temporay replacement until I can buy the permanent android or windows phone I want. No matter what phone everyone pays full price even with contract. The deals with a $50 or free iphone or galaxy with a 2 year contract are no longer offered with att, verizon, and TMobile.
Op Diaper bro, ik he was talking about the series 1 thats why i commented about the series 3/4 bcuz they’re waterproof and they r the newest from Apple just like the versa is the newest from firbit Next time think a bit before commenting, k?
I actually tried the Versa for a while and here’s my take. Versa: excellent for fitness but it’s not truly a smart watch. Apple Watch: great for fitness and truly a smart watch but pricey. In the end I returned my $230 Versa for the Apple Watch because I wanted a smart watch not just a fitness tracker. Worth the $100 difference. Just my opinion ✌🏼
I have an iPhone and bought a Fitbit Blaze two years ago. Best decision I ever made. I just wanted a fitness tracker with a bigger screen so I thought the Fitbit Blaze was the best choice for me :) Maybe I'll get the Versa soon. I love the detailed sleep tracking on the Fitbit, it really is accurate for me at least 95% of the time.
This video has totally missed the point with this Apple vs Fitbit! Read carefully -> THESE ARE TWO DIFFERENT PRODUCTS FOR TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF USER! Fit Bit are not trying to compete with Apple in the Smartwatch arena .. Fact: the sensors on Fitbit are more accurate and therefore it’s more of a dedicated device given the battery life and health stats centric design. Apple are just good at making gimmicks with crap Battery life - let’s face it, you’re going to have to continually take off your Apple watch to charge it EVERY NIGHT .. each time you remove it, you are losing monitored data .. the Fitbit lasts 4 days with medium to heavy use! More data is collected.. additional sensors are also fitted to the Fitbit e.g SpO (yet to be activated!) ..
Hi FC WHAT. I'm looking for the data behind exactly what you're bringing up....the accuracy with respect to fitness metrics of each product Do you have a good place to point me to?
I was just going to comment "I Love this series of videos!" and then... "we'll miss you Lauren"... YOU ARE LEAVING? This is my favorite video series from the Verge! Nooooooo! 😧
Have you done a comparison of mechanical reliability? I am on my third FitBit failure and I am wondering if I should should purchase an Apple Watch. Does the Apple Watch last longer-in terms of the band life, charging, etc?
There may not be an Apple app that comes on the watch for sleep tracking, but I def use mine for sleep tracking! Charge the watch for a couple of hours before bed and AutoSleep by Tantsissa does a damn good job of telling me all about my night!
How accurate is AutoSleep for you? I have both a FitBit and an Apple Watch with AutoSleep. AutoSleep is just laughable compared to... anything. You might as well count sleeping hours manually. The FitBit, on the other hand, is witchcraft. It knows exactly when I fall asleep and when I wake up. Because of the scary accuracy on these data (I've done different tests to verify) I tend to trust the sleep quality metrics on the FitBit too. AutoSleep often thinks I'm awake for a very long time when I know I must be at least light-sleeping, and then vice versa, I could be on my desk working and later I find out it thinks I was asleep! Yes, you can adjust the sensitivity on the app, but nothing I do there improves the accuracy.
I have not done a check by wearing or using 2 different devices. I actually started out with a Fitbit Blaze and wanted it mainly to track my heart which was having problems. I remember being impressed with the sleep tracking, but it was not giving me what I wanted with monitoring my heart so I ended up taking it back. I then went through a series of 2 x beddit2, then a beddit3 sleep trackers which all died before I settled on the watch. I tried Pillow before I found HeartWatch and AutoSleep.
I see. For a device that tracks the heart rate constantly, the FitBit app surprisingly does not give you a minute-by-minute BPM record, which would be useful. (However, the Apple Watch doesn't do that either. AutoSleep does give you a range and a more detailed graph, you still can't tell the exact BPM of particular points on the graph.) I only want my tracker to track my heart rate during exercise, and my sleep (with or without heart rate, the length of "actual" sleep or the "quality" is more important), so I guess the FitBit is fine for me. Incidentally, during exercise, the Apple Watch is more accurate. I've tested both against a chest strap, the Apple Watch is mostly inline with the chest strap whereas the FitBit tends to underestimate about 10-20BPM, which is absolute trash - it can be harmful if all you want to do with your exercise is improve cardiovascular health (with the Apple Watch I'm almost never in cardio range during my runs, so that could mean I'm actually putting unnecessary strain on my heart, which is bad!)
Yep. I would tend to imagine that the sensors in both are up to the challenge, it is more to do with the software implemented or available for each device. I get the granularity, display options and notifications I am after with HeartWatch on my series 2. AutoSleep interfaces with HeartWatch to display each sample heart rate in the latter app. Thanks for sharing your findings on the accuracy.
I hope you guys aren't cancelling this series. It's one of the most approachable, accurate, entertaining and informative shows on making decisions towards digital media and devices
Thanks for this video. I have a Fitbit Blaze and I've been thinking of upgrading. This looks interesting. GPS doesn't matter to me because I always have my phone on me. It tracks walks and bike rides just fine. I want more of a fitness watch than a smart watch. I don't need or want notifications on my watch.
I have a charge2 it tells the time, wakes me up in the morning, allegedly it can receive notifications, but given my phone is on the desk, why not just pick up the phone? That said the sleep tracking is what I bought it for, and it's very good at that. The App is well designed and gets updates often. The leather strap cost €10. I will never understand why people want a smart watch. It seems pointless to me, an accessory for people who don't want to play with thier phone. The only issue I have is the watch is a bit chunky, so I have to leave my shirt sleeve open n one wrist. Though given the size of smart watches that looks like a feature. If you want a fitness gadget, the Fitbit is a first class experience, if you want a smart watch the apple probably has the best bragging rights. Depends what you want it for I guess.
The fitbit does notify you when its time to move, you set that up in the app-it vibrates at set intervals reminding you how many steps you still need to meet in the hour according to your step goal.
Hi, can you do a comparison between fitbit versa and the fitbit charge 2? I’m debating between these 2. I’m using the fitness tracker mainly to keep track at the gym, heart rate and pedometer.
The Versa looks a lot more similar to the Pebble Time series than to the Apple Watch. BTW, Pebble was the only company that understood smartwatches. Whole week of battery life, screen on all the time, text visible under all conditions, no need to take off your gloves to use it, simple and utilitarian notifications, etc... No smartwatch has came close to my Time Steel, and when it dies I'll buy a regular watch because seriously, neither Android Wear (err Wear OS by Google) nor the Apple Watch are good enough as WATCHES.
The versa looks hideous, the asymmetry of the bezels, the fact that you're staring at the giant fitbit logo at the bottom, and the lCD screen will light up like a christmas tree at night highlighting those giant bezels. It looks like a cheap chinese knockoff of an Apple Watch.
Nupura Ranjan Mishra Fitbit Versa is Fitbit’s latest smartwatch, so that should have compared it with Apple’s latest Apple Watch series 3. They could have compared the cost in the video.
This is exactly what I’m looking for! I have an Apple Watch but was a bit disappointed from switching from the Fitbit Alta, since the Apple Watch isn’t as accurate with the fitness stuff. THANK YOU!!!
I’m deciding between a Fitbit versa and an Apple Watch now for my birthday next month. I want it mainly for fitness features/tracking and to be honest I’m not bothered about messages and notifications because I like a break from my phone especially when working out. With the price and battery life I was starting to lean towards Fitbit, but my only question is can you store music and listen to songs on it? Can anyone help?
That sucks, that truly sucks. still i wish she can make some occasional cameo's in vergecast and circuit breaker, but still Good luck Lauren, now i definitely have to subscribe to wired to read your articles. Thanks for being this awesome Lauren, LOVE YOU..
What I really want is all the functionality of both in one device. Fitbit has the challenges and the sleep tracking that apple doesn’t do as well, and the Apple Watch has access to far more apps that I was particularly interested in, while most of Fitbit’s apps aren’t standard apps that sync with other devices, but ones they’ve (had?) custom designed for their device. I ended up gettin both an Apple Watch and a Fitbit charge 3 so I could have all the functionalities, but I really do hate wearing the extra device on my dominant hand. It’s too bad Apple and Fitbit are choosing to compete, rather than cooperate.
I love the great reviews that I am more impressed with how an amazing job Lauren does with these videos. If I didn't know any better I'd believe that it was a twin sister she talks to. The interaction is so seemless! I don't know how she does it, but keep up the good work!
I can go three days with regular work outs and notification management on my apple watch series 3. Sure, it's not a couple years like an old analog watch, but it does a hell of a lot more. I'm looking forward to the day when I can ditch my iPhone and just use my apple watch and AirPods for music and phone calls.
I'm not an apple fan by any means, but I would never buy any Fitbit Smartwatches. No backbone in an app store and in general super sluggish interface. Android wear and watchOS are the only ways. Tizen would be good if they had better app store.
I have a Apple Watch. I like the smaller version of the Fitbit too but not really it’s kind of to small lol. I got the Apple Watch for Xmas and have worn it everyday since! I just wanted it for messaging
