#Residency #ImmigrationExperts #howtogetresidency 'Getting Residency in Costa Rica Talking with an Immigration Expert 🇨🇷 the 101' A lot of folks are fed up with the way their countries are handling the covid crisis. Particularly the United States, Canada, Germany, and France; all seriously considering making a move to Costa Rica. If you are going to live in Costa Rica. Eventually the topic of residency will arise. At some point you will have to make a decision. Do I stay a perpetual tourist, which just means leaving Costa Rica every 3 months to get your passport stamped returning usually the same day, or do I apply for my residency? In this video, 'Getting Residency in Costa Rica Talking with an Immigration Expert 🇨🇷 the 101', michael alan of Travel Costa Rica NOW.com talks to Glenn, owner and founder of the, 'Costa Rica Immigration Experts'. In this video, Glenn and michael alan discuss the basics of obtaining residency. Should you apply for residency when you first come to Costa Rica, or should you wait to see if you even like Costa Rica? michael alan of Travel Cosra Rica NOW.com has always maintained that you should wait at least a year and a 1/2 to 2 years before applying for residency, does Glenn agree or disagree? Who can apply for residency? What are the different categories of obtaining residency? What are the differences between pensionado, rentista, investor and some of the other categories of residency. These questions and more will be answered in this video. So if you are thinking about moving to Costa Rica, living in Costa Rica, and eventually obtaining your residency, you do not wanna miss this video. This is a must see video.
Most Popular Residency Categories-
*Pensionado- (basically using your social security check as a guarantee of monies arriving every month).
*Rentista- a guarantee of $2500 coming in every month.
*Investor category- Investing $150,000 into Costa Rica, usually in the form of real estate.
Don't fret, there's more ways to get your residency in Costa Rica. For example: there's also a 'small business' category. Obviously contact an immigration lawyer to make sure you get the truth about obtaining residency.
Truthfully, you should not consider getting residency in Costa Rica, obtaining residency in Costa Rica (pensionado, rentista, investor, small business etc) until you have moved to Costa Rica, lived in Costa Rica have a life in Costa Rica for at least 2 years. If you want to ring up an immigration lawyer, immigration attorney (bilingual) who speaks english, than by all means. Great video. A 6 month Visa for Snowbirds would be a great idea, in my opinion. I have not done a border run as of yet, but our neighbors have and usually fly out for a week and spend money that they should be spending in CR. There is alot of money that is being spent in Panama or Nicaragua, that could be spent in CR businesses!

Frankly I would pay $100 a month overstay if it did not count as overstay. I rather remain here in Costa Rica to spend my money. But too many issues prevent me from applying for Residency. #1 is I have an Apostilled Birth Certificate issued i 1971. The following year all the government records were destroyed in a fire. Immigration wants an Apostilled Birth Certificate issued within 60 days And it goes downhill from there. A good option for Visa run is Green Airways in Costa Rica, San Jose to Bocas del Toro Panama. Buses treat all passengers like cattle. This is a small airline flying dual prop. so get around most of the airport security as it takes off and lands at the Domestic Terminal.

Glenn is so knowledgeable and shoots straight from the hip. Thanks for a great video! I started on Rentista 20 months ago and although I have a file number it's still at the stage where they just say they received the paperwork (that was filed on March 3rd) so it is a very long process. I had 2 questions that, if not to ignorant, maybe can be answered in the next video. 1) Do you have to be a citizen to avoid the long immigration line at SJO or LIR or can you do this with temp or perm residency? 2) I believe there is a fee when you get your temp residency that is held as a "deposit" in case they ask you to leave the country (I know I am saying that incorrect). Is that moved over when you apply for perm residency or do you have to pay that again? THANKS to you both Mike and Glenn!!

Questions.... 1. Regarding Pensionado, all information is related to a couple. I am single, 72 years old with SSA a little over $1000. Is that ok? 2. Can I get my docs now then get them apostilled 2 or 3 months later, and if so, will the residency be given timely... before the 6 months? I'm assuming the 6 months begins rolling upon upon the date of the Apostille.... But the date is the docs. 3. I have a marijuana and a cocaine conviction from the 90s. Will I be denied due to those convictions? Thank you!

If a person a person plans to be outside the country for X month(s), they could stop paying their CAJA payments but they will have to pay the late/non-payments to continue to receive healthcare once they return.

Not true. US was conviced on 17 War Crimes in Nicaragua vs United States of America 1985. in the World Court of Criminal Justice. And the side the US supported lost. No Costa Rica is NOT protected by the US. It is protected by the Rio Agreement of 1948 with Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. Notr the US. Being without a military any country wanting to invade would look very foolish. 75 years with no military, no wars and no enemies. The History reported in the US is that Alternate Fact not viewed as truthful by the rest of the world. Don't forget Vietbam won that 20 year long war costing 60,000 American lives. Read the Treaty of Paris 1972. The US still is paying for damages. Bottom line, Costa Rica says to the US you can fight your wars somewhere else. We have had none for over 75 years, and no enemies either. US tried to put 2 Literol Destroyers in Costa Rica to deal with drug trafficking. The real reason is they wanted to counter Russian Military in Nicaragua. Costa Rica gave a Big NO to that US request. Only two airports or landing strips in Costa Rica. And in the 1950's only San Jose. So military planes from the US would have no place to go. It didn't happen.

@@ab-km1xk Actually Nicaragua has the lowest crime in the Western Hemisphere. US has the highest with Hatai #1. US kills its own people in wars that shouldn't have been. Vietnam an example. Not to mention Covid 19 killed over 1 millionm Americans due your governent's neglect, incompetence and lies. They had been fighting against foreign domination for over 1000 years. A certanty it could not be won from the start. And in the Treaty of Paris the US had to pay billions of dollars in reparations. Winners do not pay. Another thing with Nicaragua. in Nicaragua vs the United States of America 1985 the US was convicted on 17 War Crimes out of 21.. The former governmebt of Nicaragua the US has supported was far worse. That President had ordered the execution of all males between ages of 15 and 60 unless they were in the military Been to Nicaragua and 78 other countries in the last 9 years. Only crime affecting me was in the US. Not to mention all your drugs, homeless, police violence and more. Nice bomb in Estelli Nicaragua. 550 pounder purchased by the US by Reagan trafficking drugs (Per Colonel Oliver North) brokered by the Israilis and furnished by Israel to bomb a school there. Fortunately the bomb was a dud. As for President Daniel Ortega he has been in poor health and is nearly 90. So he is just a temporary problem. Once he is gone free elections should prevail. I truly wish the US actually would live up to that ideal image and government. But it has gone downhill since WWII. Too much power always is a bas thing.

And yes I have been to Baltimore 50 years ago, but he has never been here. a b you seem to be missing all the videos and news reports of US Police killing people, especially Blacks. If a cop kills anyone here it is rare the cop does not go to prison. It better be last resort. Plus the police do not carry electric torture devices and their handguns limmited to .380 or 9 mm, with solid jacketed bullets like is required by the Geneva's Conventions.

Hello, yes. You would need to register the value of the property in the National Registry (Registro). Note: Immigration (DGME) can request proof of said valuation at their own discretion. Also, please note, Immigration (DGME) has not yet implemented internal procedures to work with the recently passed law that lowers the property value requirement to $150,000... Internally, they are still working with the $200,000 value requirement.

My wife, 7 year daughter and I are in the process of moving to CR at the end of this month....we have been coming down for the last 13 years or so for a week or two at a time, so we decided to go the rentista route instead of PT out of covid traveling concerns at the borders as well as having our daughter not miss school. No US bank would give me the required bank letter due to the necessary wording so we will have to deposit the $60k in a Costa Rica bank. My question is should we not be able to secure remote work that pays the bills or if we just think that after a year, living in CR is not for us, will we be able to wire the $60k back to our US bank before our residency kicks in? I've been told the wait time is now 18-24 months due to covid, which is quite a long time to have that amount of money tied up. Appreciate any insight you could provide...thanks.

I think they are trying to pass a bill to start producing it for medicinal purposes. Recreational is still illegal.

It's being delayed for a month (starting Oct. 21) by a minority group of religious politicians. I bet it'll be approved anyways for medicinal and industrial purposes by the end of 2021.

And pay 10 times more to live in Hawaii than it would in Costa Rica. Plus Costa Rica has National Health Care paying 100% while Hawaii only has Medicare paying 80% Not to mention the high crime in Hawaii. Car rentals tell you to leave the car unlocked, windows down to protect from forced entry damage.
