In 2019, Air Force, Army, and Navy leadership mandated that the U.S. military use a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) for new program designs and refreshes, calling MOSA a "warfighting imperative."
MOSA strategies are now being applied across multiple domains - air, sea, land, space, and electromagnetic spectrum. Unmanned systems are a key component in each of those areas. MOSA open architecture initiatives such as the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA), the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE), C5ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS), and others are affecting the hardware and software designs of platforms’ flight controls, ISR payloads, communications, and more.
This session covers how the military is applying MOSA initiatives and strategies to embedded electronics designs in unmanned platforms.
