In principle, it must be ensured that all our products are travel health insurance. This means they are valid for foreigners in Germany or for Germans abroad. Furthermore, it is important to know that students under 30 years of age in Germany must either insure themselves by means of a statutory health insurance or have to be released from the obligation to insure themselves in order to be able to be insured privately. Students over 30 years or PhD students do not need such exemption and can insure themselves directly with us. Further information can also be found in the following link: www.mawista.com/krankenversic....
We do not have an insurance card. The customer receives with the contract documents a treatment certificate which replaces the insurance card. Since it is a private health insurance the student receives the invoice himself after a medical treatment. He then has the possibility to pay the invoice first or he sends the unpaid invoice to the insurer, receives the refund and then pays the doctor. Invoices can be submitted here not only by post, but also by e-mail or via our website.
Persons in Germany can be insured for up to 5 years through travel health insurance. For our MAWISTA Student product you can be insured for 48 months in a contract and then conclude a new contract for another 12 months in another tariff. There are 3 tariffs in the product MAWISTA Student, which are available: MAWISTA Student Classic, Student Classic Plus and Student Comfort.
In the MAWISTA Science product, a contract can be concluded for up to 60 months. This product is also suitable for students. You can compare the rates here: www.mawista.com/auslandskrank...

Please note that it is dependent on the physician, whether it is issuing an invoice with a due date or the payment in advance. As a rule, however, the invoice is paid directly on the spot. For hospital admission, the insurer must be contacted by the emergency number +49 (0) 89 6 24 24 - 496, so that the payment can be settled directly with the hospital. In the event of an appointment agreement, the medical helpers can be enlightened about the situation and ask how the payment is carried out in practice. Regarding point 4, the following explanation is given: The reimbursement is always made directly to the customer. This means that as soon as the invoice is available (whether paid or unpaid does not matter), this is submitted to the insurer. After checking you will be refunded within 2 weeks to your own account. If the invoice has not been paid to the doctor in advance, payment must be made to the physician at the latest after receipt of the reimbursement.

Comment from Joy: Hi Bharat, I have some info that may help you . 1. Students below 30 cannot opt for private insurance and they have to go for public ones like AOK and TK and those above 30 cannot opt for public ones! 2. Once you start your studies you cannot switch from a public one to a private insurance or vice versa . The entire tenure of your studies you have to remain in either the public one or the private (whatever you had chosen when you started your sturdiest but you can switch between companies.) - I learnt it the hard way and I have confirmed from AOK! 3. Important: They have changed some rules in Dec'2016 so some of the affordable krankenversicherung that most students opt for like Mawista ,Care concept etc are not accepted by the Ausländerbehörde anymore. And it has been implemented here in Nürnberg and has created a lot of chaos!!Some of my fellow students are stuck in this sticky situation since Dec!My student advisor told me that many other cities will also implement that soon. I also have an Letter from Ausländerbehörde , Nürnberg that states that they are no longer accepting Mawista . So I personally went and asked at the Ausländerbehörde and they told me that only insurances that are mentioned in the BaFin website are accepted. portal.mvp.bafin.de/database/InstInfo/sucheForm.do?RAP=1e94caad%3A15add010aac%3A-1053 If I get any confirmation on the latest developments or if they change their stand about Mawista or Care concept I will let you know.

Tom Hi, have you tried selecting "Krankenversicherer " in the kategorie ? It should show 46 companies that are registered. Else I do have the list I can email it if you want .

This comment is misleading. You only need BaFin approved insurance if you are applying for a residence permit of 36 months or longer. For most student resident permits, where only a short-term residence of up to 36 months is planned, and no employment or only one of minor relevance shall be taken up, a health insurance coverage which meets the minimum requirements pursuant to the EU Council decision of 22nd December 2003 (2004/17/EC) will suffice in this case. It must meet the following criteria: a) The insurance covers all expenses for urgent medical attention and, if need be, repatriation for medical reasons. b) The insurance is valid throughout the entire period of the person’s stay in Germany (if need be, including an unauthorised residence). c) The insurance is valid throughout the territories of all Schengen States. d) The insurance provides a minimum coverage of 30,000 €.

Your first point doesnt really make any sense. You are essentially saying students below 30 can only use public insurance and students above 30 cannot use public ones. 1. Students below 30 cannot opt for private insurance and they have to go for public ones like AOK and TK and those above 30 cannot opt for public ones!

As a german and former student, I can give you the following recommendations: Before signing up, give the company of your choice a call and ask, if you have to pay the doctor beforhand or if they do it or if they send you the money first and how quick they are. This way, you will also find out if their staff speaks decent english. With some companies, you can even snap a picture of the bill and send it to them first thing. They still need the written document, but this way, they allready file the information and move faster. Hospital bills and other large bills should always either be paid directly by the insurer or the money should be forwarded to you before you have to pay. And yes, you need to think of stuff like that. If you plan on staying longer, it also pays to take a rainy day and compare student's insurance plans: While all companies have to fulfill german legal requirements thus providing a good and comprehensive coverage, some plans come with extras for the same price such as burnout prevention, online groups, single or double room occupancy in hospitals, even natural remedies for the esotherically minded ;) etc. (student plans usually at the moment are around 73 € per month, give or take). Good comparisons are also done by several papers including Stiftung Warentest and Focus Money. The documents you need to sign up are usually your passport and the universities' confirmation of enrollment. BUT: In order to enroll, you need to have health insurance (in germany, insurance is mandatory). Therefore, taking out the 1-month plan for travellers before you come to germany is a very good suggestion by Bharat. You can also do all the research allready online, call the company of your choice up, fill in the forms online and mail them a notarized copy of your universites' letter of acceptance and passport. Con: It usually costs money to notarize documents and international post is slow. Pro: You are all set. My recommendation: Do your research early, but finalize stuff once you are here. If you have questions, I will try to help you out, but I am only a user, not a professional.

Hello, you say students who are 30 or older could get MAWISTA, which is a PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE. But so much people complain about the PRIVATE health insurance companies. They say one you choose PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHANGE TO PUBLIC HEALTH INSURANCE. It seems you have MAWISTA as your health insurance provider. How are you dealing with the fact that as you get older you will need public health insurance but you will no be able to change from PRIVATE TO PUBLIC. How are you going to deal with this?

Yes Hirmay. You can get admission to PhD after your Masters in the same university. Mawista is a private health insurance and is valid for people who are older than 30.

Hi Bharat! I am most surprised to hear that nobody complete masters in just 2 years and they take extra semesters to complete it. How much is this true? How will i be able to afford the expenses?
@BharatinGermany
@BharatinGermany 7 лет назад
Yes, nobody completes it in 2 years. It always take 1 or 2 semesters more which is completely normal in Germany. You can ask any Masters student here. He will tell you the same.

Hi Bharat, you mentioned in your video that you dont know anyone who can complete its masters in two years. I am a bit scared now. Can you give me some details on it? One more thing i would like to ask you is that after Masters, how is it about getting a good job in germany?
@BharatinGermany
@BharatinGermany 7 лет назад
It's very normal in Germany. I guess, I will do a video about it soon too because it's a complete change of culture, education system and mindset. People take longer than 2 years because they need to get good grades in the Masters and if once, you cleared an exam, you are not allowed to retake it to make the grades better. That's why students take lesser exams with better grades (you can decide how any exams you want to give each semester too.)
