make sure you apply for disability support allowance (DSA) this was absolutely vital during my uni time as it allowed me to get a scribe and exam adjustments as well as one to one support as well as a bunch of free software and a bunch of other stuff

@@IsabelleWeall remember that it only covers costs that specifically related to studying and your disability - so I think you'll also need to work out how to get funding for any care needs you have as an adult that might currently be being met by your family. I can't imagine any university wouldn't allow a disabled student to have their car on site, even my university which was really strict about student cars allowed that, I know a triple amputee that attended there and they gave him priority choice on accomodation to get a suitable location and room.

I went to trent. They have decent disability access (lifts, button opening doors, bathrooms etc) and i found it to be a very good uni. Course tutors were supportive and facilities are good too. overall a very good uni which has climbed the ranks very quickly in the past few years. Hope it all goes well and you get accepted to all 5 courses so you can pick and choose where to go!

You should definitely go to schools in your gap year and tell your story, I know when I was a student having someone come and talk about disability awareness would have been great ❤️

Manchester is a FANTASTIC city, kinda like London in terms of stuff going on but significantly less scary Man met is super close to the city centre, buses go everywhere for super cheap so in terms of disability that might be helpful. Mmu su is really nice, Mmu is also super close to university of Manchester so I know lots of people who went to societies at the other uni, I joined anime soc at Mmu but was a uom student for example You really won't need a car in Manchester because the buses go everywhere for super cheap at any time, legit like every 2 mins

Hi from Japan! I was enrolled in NTU and studied English many years ago. I still find it difficult though..... I lived in West Bridgford with my landlord's family. It's a good memory. Sometimes I wonder what they are doing now.... I hope you can develop your talent at a uni!! Cheers!

my tips: - remember you should get priority accommodation (including priority on having an ensuite and adapted room) due to your disability, but make sure to keep in touch with the accommodation and provide them with lots of medical evidence in advance so it's as easy as possible and they know to prioritise you. - get in touch with Student Finance's Disabled Students Allowance as soon as possible. you have to have an assessment with you to discuss your needs and get all the funding for that approved. i would imagine you would qualify for the non-medical helper allowance which i believe is up to about £23k which i'd guess could be used to pay for a scribe, a study support worker, or maybe even help with household stuff. it's a super good resource but a lot less stressful if you get it done early as there's lots of back and forth with the assessor and the funding body and having to send it on to the uni. - make sure to get in touch with the Disability Support Service at the uni as soon as possible to get the stuff recommended by the DSA in place as soon as possible. i remember from my first year of uni that the appointments to get it all sorted booked up really really fast. they're the point of contact for getting all your disability needs known by the uni, such as exam arrangements and in-class arrangements. i know that at my uni the Disability Services write you a Disability Support Summary which is sent to all your teachers in advance with requirements on how they can best accommodate you, which is really useful in meaning you don't have to speak to each teacher individually about the support needed. good luck with your applications! 🌟

Good luck with your future, Izzy! Happy to always see your spirit! Just don't stop on every chance in Uni since you're lucky enough that your country supports those with disabilities; while some (like myself) are failed to apply regarding that matter.

I think it is smart to have your car close by, and I do also think it is a point that the living accommodations is close to the university, especially for you since on campus bathrooms might not always be very helpful. If you have a class in the morning and one in the evening, it can be nice to be able to go home in between without wasting to much time. Also check the accessibility of other places you want to go, like the local gym and places students party and hang out together (at least in Norway it is common for students to have their own places in addition to using the public bars/night clubs, and sometimes it is in a cellar). I do hope you get some fabulous years at uni, and if you do choose to have a gap year, maybe doing some moocs or other courses in addition to working on your RU-vid-channel will give you some new skills or hone some of your existing skills. Wish you luck whatever you do!

I considered Notts Trent but personally I found it too insular and a "bit dull". I have taken a gap year this year and in September I will be attending Uni at Plymouth! I wish you all the best for your application! Good luck x

Hi Izzy, just wanted to say that even if you feel the course you pick is not quite right for you, you would be able to change your course. Also as someone mentioned definitely apply for DSA, I went to Uni late in life and found out I have dyslexia and dyspraxia they then helped me apply for funding I received a free laptop with specialised software, Dictaphone, and printer/scanner, Whatever one you choose, just make sure you enjoy the experience.

I am in my final year at ntu. It’s honestly been the most amazing uni and I will be sad to leave. I did Biochemistry on Clifton campus and it’s a great campus with good disability access.

I went MMU. The business building has good access as it a new build. Some of the older builds like John Dalton bit annoying as was often only one lift working. The accessible accommodation was grim though. lol MMU you can park as long as have blue badge. MMU can also offer any disabled support you need in my experience.

I have an invisible disability that meant I had to get an en suite while in student accommodation and just crossed out all places that weren't able to guarantee me that, on a positive spin it does help narrow the options :P also totally biased opinion here, Leeds is a brilliant city to be a student in

Congratulations on the smart choice. I suggest a clinical psychologist degree, if you like that option, because you are in a unique position to help people help themselves. Your disability is an advantage in that profession as you have overcome difficulties and understand what patients are dealing with. I think you would be a great psychologist.

For you it might be different since you make youtube videos, but a gap year doing "nothing" is so boring :^( my own experience is of course way different: i just graduated from uni and i'm looking for a job. I'm not in employment or education and it's so boring and demoralising and stressful

@@IsabelleWeall I can understand, you have the means to go but no place to go. About all you can do, if allowed to be outside your home is around the block or maybe two blocks. How boring, not to you friends, not for take away, nowhere. Best to stay in and save petrol.
