A short film of Karolina Szymkiewicz (www.karolful.com) applying the gold leaf to the "MA" exhibition artwork. Please visit Karolful's blog to learn more about the exhibition: www.karolfulillustration.com/m...
Hello everyone that left a comment. Just a quick notice. I'd like to say this video was never meant as a tutorial. I do not run a YT channel. This video was taken using my phone for personal documenting purposes almost 4 years ago. The reason why I uploaded it to YT is because I wanted to add it to my blog where I talk about "Behind the Scenes" of the Exhibition that I had in Shanghai at the time (link in box description). No need for hate.
In that case, perhaps a title of 'Behind the scenes of my exhibition' would have been more relevant than 'Applying Gold Leaf' as YT puts you video in the list of all 'how to Apply Gold Leaf' videos....
Karolina Szymkiewicz What is the tool you’re using the “smooth” out the gold leaf? I do calligraphy but never seem to get such a smooth finish on my gold.
not sure what people are complaining about just because it didn't show the application of the adhesive (even though it's not that damn hard to apply glue to paper via brush...) but I guess it doesn't really matter since this video is almost 3 years old
Your answer is in the question. There is nothing on here that states that applying glue is a step that needs to be taken before applying the gold leaf. She does say in her comment that she never meant this to be a tutorial, and all of it was written after the fact. If you don't want any negative comments, then disable your comments. She clearly doesn't seem to mind the praise.
If it's helpful to you guys, I use monalisa gilding glue. And gold leaf. You spread the glue first onto whatever you want gold leaf, or whatever metal leaf used_ let it dry. When dry it's a bit tacky ..then use any flat brust or doing brush you can get at ant blick arts or Michael's. Instructions are on gilding glue label..good luck.. I'm sure it wasn't intentional for artist to leave out. 👌👍
Thanks... I've only used gold leaf on Calf skin or goat skin. But i do replicas (for my personal collection) of the Books of Hours. (I saw just a few pages of that book and dove in head first) my current gesso and I only use it due to my "canvas" so to speak uses, but I use white lead to create my gesso. I've used Jerry Tesslers raised gesso and it worked great but it was expensive and theres not much in there.. however I usually always frame my pieces when they are dry and use in well ventilated areas. I never used raised gesso on a canvas because of the size.. but ur gold stuck wonderfully. Just blew my mind how much of a bigger scale you work on lol. The way this came out was like nothing is ever seen... I know it's been years since the last comment. But i have been doing abstract art with gold leaf (still not on ur scale) but I'm working with different sprays and adhesives.
Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing. As for all the comments about the adhesive why don't people go to a craft store and buy a kit, or google it. lol it's not that difficult.
Hi Anyone know if you can draw over gold leaf with a 2b pencil? I’m doing a drawing and want to lay the leaf down as the base for a gold chain then draw the detail on top Thanks
@T Nailz Okay? Do you have nothing better to do with your time than be immature and start a fight over the internet? No? Oh okay. I'll just move on with my life and let you stay here.
Hi, is this on paper? im trying to do it in a sketchbook but the gilding im using (windsor & newton Japan Gold Size) is just absorbed into the paper making it transparent but its not sticky. how do i get my gold leaf to stick to paper?
It was a glue adhesive that I got recommended in the art supplies store whilst buying the gold leaf sheets. I have a suspicion that a acrylic medium would work quite well.
I'd say give it a go and test it out. It really depends on the adhesive, quality and type of paper and golf leaf you have. Test out various combinations and see what works for you and your work.
I covered the areas I didn't want covered in glue (then gold) with plain masking tape. I used diluted adhesive for the gold leaf to stick. Make sure you remove some of the glue on the masking tape before you stick it to your artwork ( I removed it by sticking it few times to your skin) Hope this helps.
I assume you are kidding!!! It is so amazing how little it takes to annoy people. Just turn the sound off or go to the next video. Or, do one yourself. But, wow, there are so many really serious things going on the world. Be grateful you have a computer, the ability to use it, see it, and hear it - should you choose to.
not hating , just could not enjoy your vid due to horrible sound track...i use gold leaf in some of my paintings and am always inspired by others gold leafing, but i am happy i am not a musician given the sound track [ it sounds like a CD that is skipping etc ]
If you read the pinned comment. She says that this was supposed to be a behind the scenes of the painting/sketch. I'm guessing you're either joking or you just ignored to read the pinned comment and make this one to stir up drama
