Again another great video Mark. I am learning alot from you my friend. Keep up the great work and thank you for taking the time to do this for us newbies. I really appreciate it. God bless.
Wow, that was SO informative, thanks. I am a brand newby and have been struggling with how to design curved text, your video was excellent, very easy to follow and just the right amount of info to get the job done. Thank you very much, I will be following you from now on and will quit trying to figure this out on my own.
Mark, Your videos have helped me become a fair CNC user, and I even started a little retirement business making signs. I am sorry to say that I have not seen any new videos, and I hope your doing well. Please know that your work provides a great learning tool to new CNC users, and is a much needed educational tool. I hope to see more videos again soon. Fair winds.. Tight lines my friend.
Thank you! I'm all over the place - here on RU-vid, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc... I do a weekly LIVE Q&A every Sunday at Noon Pacific time, and try like crazy to post a new video every other week. I don't know why you haven't seen any new videos - I'm making them. I have over 300 on my channel. Remember to Subscribe, then click the notification bell, and set it to All Notifications. Then you'll get a notification whenever I post a video, and whenever I go live.
I can't thank you enough Mark. Been watching a ton of these and you have made it so clear. I will be watching more. Getting my CNC in a couple days and I told the wife I would not buy it unless I could learn the software. Well, you have certainly helped!
This exactly what I was looking for. I really liked how you showed how to make the minor adjustments and then took it all the way down to applying the tool paths. Thank you so much Mark.
Great job Mark. I don't know why Vectric cannot do this and make it easier . You email them and they are not much help. Thanks again for making it easy and simple
Thank you very much, Ray. Vectric has to cater to all skill levels in their tutorial videos - everyone from beginners to experienced users who just need a little bit of help finding the tools. They can't take the time to get into each concept, technique, or tool and break it down for the person who has never done this before. I try to do that, because 5 years ago, I was the guy looking for help - and still am at times. I'm not an expert - I'm just trying to help folks avoid the mistakes I've made in the past.
It depends on whether you are using a 2D or 3D border. Here is a playlist of 3 videos that demonstrate the subject: ru-vid.com/group/PLLuYLaC3-QRNJ-wWDOr-PirbGb9xrNE-Q
Very well defined video done with clear and concise instructions. Prefer listening to your video's than those from Vectric since the accent at times is hard to understand.
Everything was good up to opening up the Curve on a text bar. It will not light up/open up, so I can not make any changes to be able to curve the text.
If the text has been converted to curves, it's no longer a text object and the tools used to curve the text will not work. Check out my video on using the Distort Tool. Here's a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IRTiQizraY8.html
I'm sorry Mark, I should have written back last night and let you know that I figured out a way to do it that worked fine. I created a circle that I could attach the text to and get it just the way I wanted it. Then I deleted that circle and drew a new and bigger one around it that is the actual diameter of the table top.
Thank you, Robert. You could either import vectors or draw your own, then size them to fit inside the text circle or curve. There are several methods, and I've covered just about all of them in various other videos. Hit my main channel page by clicking my name, and check them out.
This was very helpful. I tried using this for a logo and designed it at 8" diameter. Everything looks fine. I reduced the size of everything to 1" diameter and the text does not carve in the simulation. What am I doing wrong?
You're probably not doing anything wrong. The text is probably so small that the v-bit you've selected is too big to carve it. You might check out this video to see what's going on, and how you can solve the problem: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JGG0yTPih4w.html
@@MarkLindsayCNC Thanks for your reply. I watched the suggested video and understand the concept. However, When I reduce the size of the logo to 1" the small text does not show when running the simulation. I have tried it with 90 degree, 60 degree, and 30 degree v-bits with the same result.
Good job Mark! Don't worry about the time. Thought it very informative.Just a ? Is your highlighted cursor set in Vcarve or is it a system setup?I say keep'em coming!
The highlighted cursor is a part of the screen capture software I use. I use a program called Flashback Express by Blueberry Software. It's got a lot of features not normally found in a free screen capture program, and I like it a lot. There is a Pro version that runs about $50, but so far I haven't run into a need for the pro version.
Hi Mark, thank you for the video it makes it so simple to follow. I have a problem you might be able to help me with I hope. When I go into wrap a text the areas that I need to change i.e. above a circle or below are greyed out and so is the apply button. It means that I cannot set anything on it, its like it is frozen!!! Any Ideas Help!!!
Sorry for that. I'm making a sign with text wrapped at the top and at the bottom similar to what you did. I want to wrap circles around the text, top and bottom. I deleted the circle that I used to wrap the text so I would start with a clean circles. Using a 90 degree v bit. It will not carves the whole circle. It stops within an inch. Can't find a solution in the manual, maybe If I keep looking, but thought you might know the answer.
hi i have a unique issue..within aspire i know how to wrap text around a curve however i have a vector that i imported and it is letters and i want to wrap them along a curve but im not sure how
For that, you'll need to use the Distort Tool. As you've discovered, applying text to a curve only works with text objects. It won't work with vectors. What you'll need to do is draw the curve you want the text vectors to follow, position it where you want the text to be, put the text in that same location, then use the Distort Tool to distort the text above that curve, or between two curves. Here's a link to my two videos on how to use the Distort Tool. (I'd check out the first one first.) I hope they help! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IRTiQizraY8.html or ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ch_8MiTjDgQ.html
Another great video. I have a question, I am trying to rap text to curve but the window is grayed out and won't allow me do anything. Where did i go wrong?
Is the text an actual text object, or did you convert it to curves? It has to be a text object. If you've already converted it to curves, you'll have to use the Distort Selected Objects icon under Transform Objects, or delete the text and start over.
Thanks for another great video Mark. I am making a table top for a store in town. Well, I'm designing it at present. It will be a while before I actually build it. They are friends of mine and it's going to be a surprise. I followed along in this video and got part of the name done. The name of the store is "YORKS PARK GROCERY." I was able to put the name YORKS to fit the 30 inch circle in the top part. But when I put PARK GROCERY in the bottom half, it will only come out in really small text, not the same size as in the top of the circle. Is that normal or am I missing something? I am wanting the text to be inside the circle and not outside like you did, as the circle is going to be the actual table top. Thanks.
If you're creating the two completely separate lines of text, you should be able to resize them independently. Keep in mind, however, the text on the bottom will get crowded at the top of the letters, so you'll need to do a bit of kerning to get them to look right.
Hi Mark and thank you for this video. I have a question. When create the text and break the block of text into lines and select the text and vector on the top center of the curve and then apply the curve my text comes out upside down and backward. Any idea what I'm doing wrong ??
Select the curved vector, and tap N to go into Node Editing. Look for the green point - that's your start point for that vector. Put your cursor over the point at the far left end of that vector, right click, and select Make Start Point in that menu. Tap N to come out of Node Editing and try it again. I covered this at the 6:05 time mark in this video.
this is off subject but related to why i had to do what i had to do to get proper font...why after 50yrs do we still only have a handful of very simple single line fonts to choose from??? why doesnt somebody create more?.. this has always puzzled me.....why arent there thousands to choose from?
In v-carving text, the depth of cut is dictated by the angle of the bit and the width of the letters. In this example, I wanted the bit to be free to plunge as deeply as it needed to go in order to carve the letters in one pass. I could have set a flat depth if I only wanted the letters cut, for example, .125" deep. I didn't have that restriction, so I left the flat depth blank and let the software calculate the depth of cut.
I guess I don't know enough about v-carving to understand what you are taking about. I just started my build on a 48x48 Garageworx cnc. I do want to do a lot of v-carving, so back to u-tube. I got my edge finder from Bill Briggs can't wait for you to do the video on this setup.
Relax - I got ya covered. This video was shot when I was using VCarve Pro version 8.5. A lot of things have changed since then. Here's a newer video that covers the newer versions of VCarve and Aspire: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aUHyCjUIeqM.html
