French composer, teacher, pianist and organist Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) was one of the most well-known composers of his generation. He worked as organist at the major Parisian parishes of Saint-Sulpice and L'Eglise de la Madeleine and also became director of the Paris Conservatoire. His harmonically rich vocal and piano pieces and Requiem have remained popular.
