April 2024 camping trip days 1-2
or so we thought...
Massive camping fail. Booked 3 nights at Borumba deer park to have a little holiday away from home with the family. After lots of stress of organising and buying supplies and food, doing loads of washing, packing and prepping food, many last minute dashes to the shops and then finally taking the 1.5 hour drive to the campsite, check in at the kiosk and it starts to bucket down with rain. We wait for the rain to subside before we set up our tent only to discover it is covered top to bottom, inside and out with mould. We decided to call it quits before the trip even began and were sorely disappointed. We had been looking forward to this for some time and Andrew had taken the time off work. It was supposed to be our getaway from the many current stresses of life so we could just relax outdoors with the kids, away from screens, life dramas, home and work duties.
We decided that even though things did not go according to plan, that we would make lemonade out of lemons and do our best to make the most of the time off and take the family outdoors in nature like we'd hoped, even if it meant having to come home each day back to reality. We booked a cabin stay in kenilworth as we were already in the area and it would have been far too depressing to go straight home after just arriving. Unfortunately we couldn't get a refund for our campsite, food and camp supplies hahaha.
We spent the following day in Kenilworth, did a little 4wdriving in Conondale National park and ended back at the Borumba Deer park to go for a swim before heading home.
