You have the best observation hives on youtube. Glad the bees fooled you and survived haha I had a very late 3 framer survive against all odds. I thought they where going to be toast. They are now the most productive. That was awesome with your Willows. What I like about Willows is that if you live near a stream or small river you can cut 10 inch pieces when the trees are dormant in winter. Poke them all along the river or stream bank and you will get 100% rooting, They root so easy and with in 2-3 years they will be full of catkins for the bees. I managed to get a female willow this year so hoping to get seeds. We have over 100 Willows and they are all male trees. They also help to clean the water by taking out pollutants. So not only is it good for bees but also good for environment. Top notch video as always! Hope you have an awesome year now spring is here.

I'm doing good so far, in NE Georgia mountains, with my two Italian packages. My second inspection is coming up Saturday. I am feeding 1-1 sugar water and there is plenty of pollen coming in. It has been raining a lot but we get enough sunny days in between. Nice video, its always a pleasure to see the queen.

Here in SE VA, the maples and fruit trees are done, the dead nettle and dandelion are strong, the white clover has begun, the blackberries are on the verge, and I’ve had to super the strong colonies for nectar stuffing the brood frames. It’s gonna be a spring honey kinda year.

Here in S. Oregon it will bee 2 months the 18 that pollen has been coming in. Longlange original 1/3 didn't make it, but split 1/3 is very strong. No drones yet. Thanks Fred

Great video! Really liked getting to see the queen walk around and do her thing. Got one swarm trap set out today and I now wish I would have done it a week ago, likely get the other two set out tomorrow. A lot of bee activity on my two red buds and have been seeing them on the dandelion's quite a bit too.

Its exciting to see everyone's bees waking up! I live in western Washington, and my bees are still tucked in and haven't made their spring appearance yet. Thankfully they survived the cold winter here and I gave them some dry sugar on newspaper above the frames to hold them over a little longer in case they run low on honey stores.

I loved to see the bees landing in slow motion.😂 When at regular speed they look so precise, but they're actually quite clumsy 🤣

caught swarm from mine today ,filled 5 frame's, put in truck and relocated to my new yard,seeing drones ,i tried to tweezer 40 in soapy water off landing board twice didnt see any mites,i know i should pick them off frame's for the newly emerged drones,ill give that a try,finally 70s and everything is popping,got my red marker,or should say hot pink,so ive been marking queens when i find them,third swarm so far,....one i caught twice,shook into a jester nyc box ...but hr later they were in another tree ,pretty sure i got her the second try,and relocated, my guess is a virgin ....fun times

hey fred....today i heard a queen beeping,1st time, held the frame closer to my ear ,and it was a young queen,she was flighty,but i got her marked hot pink....made my day,

Here in NW Colorado, our very abundant winter of snow is melting. Bees have been flying the past few warmer days. I have not been able to do a full inspection yet, as the temps have not been warm enough. Bees are eating the Hive Alive Fondant. I hope to do a full inspection in the next week just to check on the girls. Love this video!

Really enjoyed the video. My wife really enjoyed the Queen segment. In central PA. Opened all my Layen’s hives today for the first time. I built 10 new hive with the intention of splitting them all. They are all thriving. Tons of drone brood and one already have several capped queen cells much to my dismay. I have a swarm trap 100 yards away and looks like a swarm moved in. I’m thinking maybe from the hive with the cells but I’m not sure. They were very calm and I would have suspected them not to be if the queen already left? We’re coming into rain this weekend and then a cold snap so I don’t think I can get them split before it’s too late as you’ve mentioned that the queen will depart right before or soon after the cells are capped. Either way I suspect you’ll be see lots of drones very soon since your to the north west of me.

yep ...another comment ,i just placed s deep frame full of capped drones into a queen isolation cage,to cull upon emerging in soapy water ,hope to get the timing right

Now that’s a good video, mate. Quick question, if you buy a box of bees and find the Queen dead 💀 at the bottom of the nuc is it best to just let them make a new queen or buy a new one? If they make a new queen, is it just as good as the one that died? Cheers The Candleman 🕯️🐝

Great queen close up! Will queenless hives bring in pollen? Can't figure where our pollen is coming from. Fred our bog has lots of pussy willows. The snow pack has just left this last week, the maples might flower on the upper branches this weekend. So the girls are bringing in pollen but I'm not seeing any on the willows. I'll have to do a closer inspection tomorrow.

Is it possible that the drones are doing flights to and from a drone congregation area? Might explain their absence..

I’ve never heard anyone talk about the queen’s poop. We know bees have to do cleansing flights, but what about the queen? I would venture to guess that the nurse bees eat it. Thoughts?

Hi Fred, we have a new queen that seems to only be raising drones. She's an overwintered queen that was a daughter of our original hive. Should we replace her?

James Steelville,MO. Mr. Dunn we’ve had a couple days of rain and high winds, plus it’s dropped down to 30-40’s a few times. There’s lots of pollen coming in when it warms up around noon, is it ok to still be feeding 1-1 ? Observing the bees they go through a quart of 1-1 in a day, and 4 days on a quart of 1-1 + tsp of honey B healthy. Just curious of your opinion thank you sir.

Hey Fred, I got a question for you. What do you think about Vino Farms Bee barns have you seen what he has created or is it all for nothing?

If you return the original queen from nuc to the original hive because of no mated queen resulting from queen cells, do you need to allow time for hive workers to "recognize"/accept their original queen? Or do you drop her in and trust they will know who she is to them?

Anyone have any recommendations for vented bee suit? Not sure I wanna drop all of my cash on the ultrabreeze!
