Excellent videos! You're a true DIYer. I asked my HVAC company to install it. They connected the Aprilaire in parallel, bypassing the air handler and I thought it was wrong because the filtration quality of the dehumidifier is poorer than my MERV13 filters. The Aprilaire website shows that dehumidifiers take air from a return and send back to the return at a later point. After watching your video where you suggest to bypass the air handler, I don't know what's right. Maybe they did install it correctly.
Thank you! You made my day! Here’s why I think the lesser filters are ok. I have had better allergies since installing the dehumidifier. With the slightly drier air, even with it’s MERV8 filter, my air quality is better. I still use MERV13’s for my handlers.
@@nateatgoodmayhemracing4597 Thanks for confirming! They still need to come and reposition the dehumidifier's supply. They chose an easy route and connected it where there was most space on one of three supplies and after the damper that is normally closed in summer, so the dry air goes to the wrong part of the house instead of the whole house. Also, the Aprilaire didn't solve the basement humidity and duct sweating problem, which was the main reason for its installation. I watched another video where they recommended a separate dehumidifier that will take air from one part of the basement and supply dry air to another part of the basement to promote ventilation. Like one of the portable ones, but much bigger and covering more area. That one I can install myself. The reason I called the HVAC company is to keep the warranty on the system, which only runs for another year. But the warranty on the AprilAire is for 5 years, so I can't freely reconnect it. I have to push on them to do it correctly now.
