Followed your video and installed my XT2 today successfully. Toughest part was getting the wires all back into the Dash but with a little patience it all went back together. Secret was getting them as far into the bottom as possible. Thanks for the video - appreciate everyone creating content for the DIY crowd.

Hello; instead of using posi tab is there any free socket for accessories? did you check it when you opened the box(under the screen); there must be empty-free socket for this kind accessories;

Hello! If you find it, let us know. But the posi-tap has worked great so far, and made installation very simple. I also installed my Vantrue F1 dashcam in a similar way, using posi-tap. I've ridden a big road trip around Nova Scotia, a crazy off-road adventure through Florida, plus tons of day-trips on and off-road. With over 7,000 miles on the bike now, I haven't had a single problem with either device. So it's working just fine. 🙂

Hey mate, im stupid. where is the factory USB port located? great vid!
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures Месяц назад
No worries, brother! If you're sitting on the bike, the factory USB port is at the bottom left of the dash. It's kind of underneath and facing outward from the dash console. It's got a little plastic cover over it. So basically it'll appear to be a small rectangular "bump" that sticks out. Just pull that cover off and you'll see the USB port portected underneath. Obviously, if you ride in the rain, you'll want to unplug your device and put that plastic cover back on to keep it water tight. Hope this helps!

Great video. Thanks! I was wondering... can I hook up my GPS and my Quadlock wireless charger to the same wires that supply the USB? Thank you so much!
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 5 месяцев назад
That's a great question! I am not an electrician. From what I understand, the GPS doesn't pull many amps. So depending on how much juice the QuadLock takes, you might be able to do it. I have no problem charging my phone through the USB plug while my GPS is running. So assuming the QuadLock doesn't pull much more juice than plugging my phone in directly, it should be fine. But I'd check with someone more knowledgeable about these things. Maybe one of our other viewers can chime in and answer that for us?

@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 2 месяца назад
Thanks Giuseppe! I don't know why yours loses power. Perhaps the cables did not make a good connection and when you attach it to the mount it is not charging? Do you have a voltage tester to make sure the mount is receiving power when the ignition key is turned on?
@giusepperizza859
@giusepperizza859 2 месяца назад
@@MotoPhotoAdventures Thanks for supporting me. The strange thing is that charging works well. The GPS works well when I use the zumo in battery mode or with the car mount. The GPS loses power to the point of becoming unusable only with the motorcycle mount. I’ll try with a voltage tester.

I've been using the Posi-Taps for a while. I don't consider them waterproof. I've been covering them with shrink wrap or heat shrink tubing I have the Zumo XT now, I had the 660 before. I have found that whatever can fall, will fall glass side down, so I have installed a Screen Protective Film on my zumo. A fun fact, the XT2 will work in a XT mount, but an XT will not work in the XT2 mount. When I mount the zumo to the bracket, I hold the button down, push the zumo tight and release the button, rather than push it on till you hear the click. One other feature of the zumo, when you turn the key off, you will have about 10 seconds to choose to keep the zumo on it's own battery power. This is really great when you have a stop and want to still use the zumo.

Thanks for the vid. Is the switched power 12V battery or 5V regulated? And what sort of current can you pull (i.e. what is it fused at)?
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 10 месяцев назад
Glad you enjoyed it. Great questions about the power! I readily admit I am NOT an electrician. Hopefully one of our viewers can anser this. I seem to recall from the forums I researched before attempting this install, that the USB port uses 5V power. I also read that the Garmin GPS draws so little that it doesn't overheat any wiring or blow any fuses...so it's perfectly safe to tap into that USB wire.
@bmavad
@bmavad 10 месяцев назад
@@MotoPhotoAdventures Thanks, I've been running my Garmin from the Tuareg's USB socket and it just doesn't quite make the power budget. So the Garmin makes up the shortfall with battery power. Eventually the GPS just shuts down. I noticed you had a multimeter on the wiring at one stage, but I couldn't make out the reading. I've just bought the wiring diagram and looking at that, seems the voltage to the USB socket is fused, switched 12V battery power and the USB socket contains a (current-limited) 12V to 5V DC/DC converter. But you're taking power from utream of this and I'd have thought a GPS will have an external 12 to 5V converter in some form and not run off 12V directly. So now seeking verification - uess I better take mine apart and find out!
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 10 месяцев назад
@@bmavad sounds like you're doing your research! Makes perfect sense that I'm getting full 12v since I tapped into the wire further upstream than the USB socket. I will mention that the wiring harness for the Zumo XT (as with most previous Zumo's I've owned) includes a black box inline with the wires. That could be where it converts to 5V? If you get a minute, I would watch the install portion of this video where I wired up a dashcam to my Tuareg 660: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Fg1F-cyIzc.htmlsi=-yQwaEayRRWBmLY7. It shows a different lication where I was able to run switched power. Plus we're publishing a video tonight or tomorrow where we wired an older Garmin Zumo to Jason' Norden 901. Different bike...but might still be helpful!

Fellow SC Tuareg 660 rider here. Great video series! You won a new subscriber. I downsized from a BMW F800GSA and absolutely love the Tuareg 660. My style of riding leans to the off-road and IMO the T660 perfectly fills the gap between big luxury ADV bikes like the GS and smaller off-road dual sports like the KTM690, 500, DR650, etc which I do not enjoy on the hard top getting to the trail. It's exceptional both on and off road. I'm up in the NW corner of the state, but maybe I'll bump into you on the SCAR, BRPW, or at the Palmetto rally some day. After 4000 miles and the MABDR, I've had zero problems with the bike. I also went with the T-Rex kit and have been very pleased with it's look and performance.

In fact, I'll be driving "the cage" (Toyota Highlander) through your area to shoot a wedding in Johnson City this weekend. We've also got the Smokey Mountain 500 on our "to do" list. Rail is 12mm. It would appear your clamp is incorrectly sized, my 3D printed 12mm one fits great. Aprilia have used 1.5 superseal connector for the connector on the usb connector cable. Lazer make a Y connector cable £13.10. Separate the aprilia connector, plug the y connector between, crimp a 1.5 superseal socket on sat nav cables (port 1 + red) & plug onto onto other arm of Y cable. Good video for location of components but those Positap connectors should have no place on a bike or car. introducing a potential high resistance connector is a really bad idea. How would the motorcycle manufacturer do it? Not like that! Its just a bodge. Just disconnect the connection to OEM USB buy two of the same type connector make up a short fly lead with positive & negative looped out, plug all back together. Looks OEM & reversible to put back to standard at any time

Connectors "genuine AMP Tyco TE Superseal 1.5 series" (approx £ 1.85 each Its those connectors Aprilia have used to connect the std USB socket to on the Tuareg, Probably the same lead Aprilia list as an accessary for other Aprilia models that are supplied without a USB socket. "lazer Lamps Y Splitter cable Single to Twin Lamps" £13.80 plus post & packing Its actually intended to power extra lamps on an automobile or van but is more than adequate to power a sat nav. The arms of the Y if anything are longer than reqd on a Tuareg Either buy that or view & use as a pattern to duplicate one but with shorter arms. @brie6966 is that splitter cable the correct orientation, looks the wrong way round, doesn't it need to be one male, 2 female
@brie6966
@brie6966 7 месяцев назад
That is immaterial as the splitter is going to plug between the existing socket & plug. Crimp on to the Garmin lead a female that will connect to the extra male.@@markcolman3106 Make sure polarity is correct though lazer have gone against convention & made port 1 Black not red as is normal. Only difficulty is finding room for the additional cabling. Put spill loop in cable so any rain water cant run down cable straight into back of gauge panel.

Why not just connect it to the usb port directly on the outside?
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 месяца назад
for me, there are three reasons. 1) I want to be able to use the USB port for my phone. 2) I prefer not having exposed wires. connecting it inside the panel makes it a cleaner, more factory-like install. 3) If it rains, you'll have to unplug it. The USB port should be covered up with its waterproof plug when it rains.
