Thanks for making this video, I’m unsure to get this style of cob light or the p60x led Panel lights. I want to use an umbrella diffuser with either one because it seems like it’s the easiest to travel with. My main goal is portability, ease of travel, and long term usage. Which do you think would make a better key light for the softest look if I’m only going to be using a 32 by 32 umbrella?
Thanks for this. Watching after just ordering a pair. I already have a pair of Godox ML60 COB lights too. They're very good, but a little large for one application I have (microscope based). The Amaran looks like it's almost identical in operation, (same components?) but much smaller which should make it ideal. One question: the Godox lights don't cause banding at any brightness setting or with any shutter speed. This is a key requirement (it's a photography application) and I expect the Amarans to be flicker-free too - but are they?
Hi Pedro, we do get screwed in Europe, what can I say? However, it's funny, on the EU Amazon, yes it's 319 Euro, but on the UK Amazon it's a lot cheaper, so that's an option.
@@PhillipSkraba 259 pounds = 304 EUROS and shipping costs from the UK are usually very expensive. However, in the United States it is also USD269.00 = 238 EUROS. With shipping costs, the final price will be around the same as in the UK and EU or even more. I don't know where you saw these prices you mentioned in the video :)
Those are official Aputure prices, also available on Amazon US and B&H. However, like I stated, in Europe we get screwed when it comes to prices, there is nothing we can do about it I'm afraid Pedro, except move to America 😂
Yes, it'll fit the Light Dome 2, it's practically the same size as the SE. Of course the Light Dome 2 will be much more convenient for mobile set ups, so definitely go with that, as putting the SE together is a pain, I use it only as a studio modifier.
You're welcome. Both excellent lights, but very different light sources. This is a hard light source that can be diffused, the panels on the other hand are soft light sources that are a lot larger than the small cob on these. One of the panels is rgb which makes RU-vid work really fun, however I love also using harsh light which reminds us a little of sunlight. It all depends on what you want to use them for.
I did test both lights, at about 10cm from the fans, my room showed a normal 28dB, with the lights turned on at 100% they both showed 38dB, so I can say they are very, very quiet compared to other lights. In my opinion the fan noise will not cause any audio problems.
I was gonna get the aputure 100x as a gift to myself this month but the 60x looks great too. Would you have any insight as to for the type of creator the 100x/100d is for vs who the 60x/60d is for?
I think it is really easy. If you do only casual RU-vid videos or interviews the 60x is more than enough and also if you travel often and need the battery option. But if you want to bounce your light of walls, shoot it through windows or use bigger light domes the 100x is the way to go
@@Milan-cf1xe I had the same question. From where I come, the COB 60X, 100X and Godox ML60bi all cost approximately the same, but I'm not hesitant to spend a few extra bucks to get the best fit product. Would you still recommend the 60X over the 100X or the ML60bi for use in a study nook? I don't shoot outdoors with lights at all. The form factor of the smaller lights is delightful, but I also want to be vary of the lower light output.
@@homesavvytech if it is just a keylight for a RU-vid Setup it is good. But then also if you are indoors i would get the 100x it is more sturdy and has more output and indoors the size shouldnt matter
It‘s funny. I am not interested in lighting but still I watch your videos being fascinated by your explanations and the high quality of your content. My brother studied movie arts in your second home, London Greenwich. There he did his master and before he did his bachelor in Brighton. As a german guy he really enjoyed the people over there and, in a remote way, I can understand that very well. You are reminding me of these people over there. I love the work you are doing! ❤️
Thank You very much for that! It means a lot to me that you enjoy my work and are happy watching what I do and myself. I studied Painting in London as a bachelors, and then in when I moved to Poland I studied cinematography as a masters, that's why I love mixing all these tools on my channel. I had a few German friends at uni, all so nice! Thank You for the support!
Hello Philip, thanks for really informative vids. I'm planning to buy my first light so i have a question:what whould you pick as your first light - Amaran 60 or atomcube rx7? Thanks
Hi Phillip lovely video especially your calmness and flow of thoughts, its very relaxing to listen! I have a quick question about the COB 60d and 60x. Which should i go for as my plan is to have one harsh-light and soft-light. For the soft light im thinking the amaran P60c because its RGB, so ultimately my question boils down to is it better to have bicolor on a soft light LED panel or a COB harsh light? Many thanks 🙏
Whooa that's a great set Tucker, I'm guessing each age is a hard age to deal with. I remember myself at 13, I think I was quite the terror. Mia sometimes is already a little terror at 3, so many emotions she can't control, fun stuff!
I enjoyed your review as I have been looking at these lights as addition to my current budget unknown brand 60W cob LED - do you find for video work you are ending up at 800 ISO for LED lights at 60w ? For me with my budget canon 700d this means rather a lot of noticeable noise and im thinking rather than spending out more on higher power and bigger heavier lights I would prefer to upgrade my camera when budget allows
Could you tell me if this light will turn on, when it is provided with power? I would like to switch it in a smart home setting. And if this works, will it turn on with the same intensity when it was last turned off. Thanks for your feedback in advance!
The lights are really nice! Perfect for what I need! Something small and bicolor! Cant wait to see when I'm able to buy them from where I live. Thanks for the video, mate! :D
I Believe you have an error @7:03 the 60x is the one that is actually less powerful at 5600K due to it having to split power between the daylight and Tugsten chip. The 60D is the one that ever one else Aputure also has report to be the more powerful of the two at 5600K. can you find a way to correct this mis information please
I'm afraid not. If you heard me at 7.00 I did mention I had to check it 6 times, and after that I checked it even more. The hot spot on the 60x is much, much stronger than the 60d, even when I switched reflectors. There is no mis-information here, it was measured with a professional light meter, as I measure all the lights I work with.
@@PhillipSkraba okay fair it just odd has your the only one that has reported everyone else says the opposite maybe you got a really good chip aka silicone lottery. Or everyone else has done something else wrong. I will keep a look out have made an order for 2x 60D I will get a 60x later to compare
Philip actually has one L, I have two, so I'm just that little bit cooler. It's funny though, we're from the same part of London, and we're both into cinematography, but Philip is a little older. We met in NAB, and he didn't ask for it back, so I think I'm in the clear 👹
Well, personally I'd go with the Amaran, it's such a great little light which packs quite the punch. The Godox is great but I'd lean towards the Aputure.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of my best friends, and also the man who introduced me to RU-vid back in 2006. You'd love this light! Imagine starting RU-vid back in 2006, we'd be multimillionaires by now 👹
Hi Philip! I think you forgot to mention fan noise. For a portable and low powered light like this that will need to be placed pretty close to the subject noise makes all the difference. Looking forward to your response.
Hi! I did! Sorry, I've had quite a wild two weeks since I filmed this, caught the C. So, I did test both lights, at about 10cm from the fans, my room showed a normal 28dB, with the lights turned on at 100% they both showed 38dB, so I can say they are very, very quiet compared to other lights. In my opinion the fan noise will not cause any audio problems.
