Aqua velva comparison: USA Vs European : spot the difference! 

The US version is made by Combe, who bought JB Williams. They changed the formula and made it a bit more manly. The European version is made by Unilever and is based upon the old US Military WWII standard issue with bluing agent to prevent troops from drinking it. The I'd Lather be Shaving Podcast did an episode on it a few years ago. Very interesting.

I live in the states. The AV available here is their NEW formula, which bears no resemblance to ORIGINAL AV. I purchased the one from Spain online, I can’t remember from where. It’s the same bottle you have, that’s the smell of ORIGINAL A/V. John LOVE the Shaving Chalmers!

Yes, you nailed it, John-As I mentioned in your other video: I have a vintage bottle left from 1979...there wasn't much left, and a newer bottle from 10+ years ago. The older one looks the same color as the Spanish version, and the dark blue is the newer American version. Agreed, they are both Aqua Velva, but the Spanish version is a lot nicer, and apparently the original US formula. Thanks Walt

It's great you were able to get ahold of the good one. Glass bottle was definitely the way to go and it should've stayed that way.

I love Aqua Velva. They even sell it at the shoppette where I work! To me, the lighter blue version looks the most appealing to me. I wasn’t aware of the dark blue European version. Very cool!

Very interesting. I see all these products that folks pick up here in america and yet I have never seen them where I live. Such a disservice to my area 😡.

The European AV looks like what the American version used to look like (did that make sense? lol). They changed the formula on the American Aqua Velva at some point, so the European version is probably closer to what the US version would have been in decades past.

It's now produced by Combe Incorporated the same outfit that now has Brylcream hair cream. I love and use Aqua Velva after shave. Yeah, it ain't fancy, doesn't last to long fragrance wise, however it does the job, and that's all ya need.

Which do you prefer?, I payed more to get the Williams from Europe and it's actually pretty sought after in the States. I paired with Sacre Bleu from PAA

I have not tried Aqua Velva. I will have to try and get my hands on some.

So I think that difference in color could be differences in regional ingredients...or maybe a possible tweak on ingredients to adjust for inflation. I know that shave cream companies fiddle with the mixtures to ensure price stabilization for consumers. Most folks never use up any of this stuff....so just the fact your cognizant of a change in liquid color....puts you in a very unique class my friend!!

Hey john the USA aqua velva is in plastic bottles the Europe version is in glass bottles I wish we could get the aftershaves in glass bottles PAA sells the 2nd one you showed

The Spanish version is about the same hue as the paint on the walls. Interesting side by side. Stay healthy John.

The European Aqua Velva smells much less blue than the US one.
