Aquamation: When a pet is cremated by water - not fire

Knowing that his dog once loved water activities, owner Joshua chose to cremate his 11-year-old poodle by aquamation - a process that uses heated water and alkaline chemicals to mimic the natural decomposition process. Here's a look at how it works.
The company behind it hopes people in Singapore could likewise be cremated by water, not fire, in the future. Read: cna.asia/41bts9Q

I just noticed this video was released six days before my baby girl died last year. The thing is, we had no idea Aquamation was even a thing until the day she died. We found a pet aftercare place in our area that does it, which was a blessing: She loved water, I didn’t want to bury her, and she was afraid of fire. Thank you for posting this ❤

They are professional and very thorough in their explanation on the process and giving us time and space as well. The rooms were very family friendly and warm and it really makes us feel welcome. It was not a rushed process but a peaceful transition. It was a well made decision for us. Thanks much to Yang and the team for taking care of our little princess in her final journey.

So, basically their bodies are dissolved. I held my dog when then they put her to sleep. She understood what was happening because I told her, and when we got to the vet, she immediately calmed down and closed her eyes and slept for the first time in three days. She didn't flinch at all when they shaved her little arm or even when they put the needle in. I held her and sang to her the entire time, and I felt her heart jump and slow down to a stop. They let me stay with her as long as I wanted. It was the point during the pandemic that was just starting to ease up a bit, so I didn't know when I would get her cremains back, but I actually got them within one week, and it came with a certificate that she was cremated by herself and the ashes were hers and nothing else. It was packaged so beautifully, and tyhe box it came in was more beautiful than the picture. When I went in to pick it up, I told them that I appreciated how respectful they had been toward me and to my Boxer. And, I wanted them to tell the technician who came out to my car to carry her in for me, that I appreciated his kindness and compassion, and that she looked over his should at me as we went in, and she looked as she did when she was a puppy and I knew then I made the right decision. So, I wanted them to thank him for me, because he had faciltated that to occur. It is really all about how you and your pet are treated. They made things so much easier, and so did my sweet Boxer. When I got home, within 30 mintues, my friend and I heard the doggy gate open and shut. No one else was home. I would see her when I would turn a corner, or turn around and see her for a split second and I would jump. I was at my desk, where she would sometimes lay down on the floor next to me, but I moved my foot and it touched something. I looked down to see what it was, and there was nothing there. Once I had her cremains, I no longer saw or sensed her. But, I wasn't handling her loss very well at all. It took about a month - 1/2 until I started looking for a Boxer. With the pandemic, the Boxers were very expensive, and I couldn't find one under two. Finally, I saw an ad for Boxer puppies about 45 minutes away. I went to see them, fell in love, and went back for the little girl I picked out when she was 8 weeks old. Her mother kissed me on the cheek before I took her baby. My puppy had a pink heart on her lips!! It is fading, but still there a little bit. For about a month, I would find my puppy in the living room staring at something and I had to break her view at whatever she was staring at, and I would ask her what she was staring at. She would look back in that direction and wag her tail. I think it was the spirit of my other dog. When I die, her cremains will be buried with me. If this dog is gone too, her cremains with be with me also. The water idea is interesting and I like that it is more environmentally friendly. But, just make sure whatever you choose, that they are going to treat you and your pet with dignity and respect. She has become an amazing, loving, sweet dog.

Last Friday we lost our cat Maxie and she had a renal problem and heart murmur. It was very hard to see her off and I’m still grieving for her. The doctor said that she would not get any better and she was dehydrated and very weak. She was always with me wherever I went. I used to take her out for walks holding her like a baby and I used to sing for her and she used to love it. She is always in our hearts and we remember her every day and night how she used to walk around the house like a queen.

@tjmarx
@tjmarx Год назад
The average person uses 18L of water per day. At 800L this process uses the equivalent to 44 people per pet that goes through. It's further telling that the water isn't reused. This isn't more environmentally friendly than cremation. It's unnecessarily wasteful of water. The chemicals being used in this process can be diluted but never removed from the water so there's pollution involved here as well. What you're essentially doing is turning your pet into soap, then releasing that into the waterways. There's nothing "gentle" about this process.
@lizaprotas9960

So true 😢
@veryboliao
@veryboliao Год назад
All waste water in Singapore is treated and reused, we don't release wastewater into waterways so there's no issue of pollution, at least in Singapore. Both traditional cremation and this process has waste issues, at least water can be contained and treated more easily
@tjmarx
@tjmarx Год назад
@@veryboliao This isn't true. Singapore does have a robust water recycling program, that is absolutely correct. However not ALL water is utilised in that program, some water is not eligible and discharged out to sea or into the environment. From the website of PUB, Singapore's national water agency. "Changi Water Reclamation Plant (Changi WRP) treats used water by effectively removing the solids and nutrients that are present in the used water. After treatment, the treated used water is safe to *be returned to the environment* or channelled to NEWater factory to be further treated into highly purified NEWater." They tell you directly in the video we watched no less than twice, that the water used in this process is "released back into the ecosystem" (2:24). The reason it isn't eligible for recycling is the high presence of detergents and lipids dissolved in the water which could not be affordably broken down and removed through a treatment plants processes. There is no choice but to release into the sea, that's how this process works. Trying to put it back into the water system would make an awful lot of people sick. So yes, there is absolutely pollution of the waterways through this process. Still on the point of pollution, I'm not sure if you understand this but solids removed from treated water still pollute, they're disposed of the same way all biotrash is. Either through landfill (which Singapore has little of) or by incineration. You know, just like cremation... So called "aquamation" is a feel good marketing pitch for a violent chemical reaction that results in no environmental benefit. It isn't better contained than cremation at all. At least cremation can utilise carbon capture and storage if the government mandated it.

@MrTommyboy68
@MrTommyboy68 Месяц назад
It goes into the sanitary sewer and is treated at the Waste Plant and discharged into a stream of other body of water. In a lot of cases when the water is discharged, it is cleaner than your drinking water. It is a very closely monitored process. I get a kick out of when people say, "you can't just flush me down the drain". I ask them where do they think the bodily fluids go when you are embalmed? Or how about grandma's soot going out the stack of the crematorium and blowing around the neighborhood. I was going to do the natural burial route, but the only natural burial cemetery in my state went out of business.

In a cremation, the bones are also ground up and returned to the family as a powder. People would freak out if they saw grandma's jay bone or a few ribs if they were sent to the family in a box. And showing RESPECT for the animal and their human by presenting the body in a dignified way. I guess you never saw an embalming or autopsy, eh? You see the body after it has been prepped and in on display in the coffin, so what's the big deal? I firmly believe animals should be shown the same respect when they die as humans do.

Cremated by water, water waste. Furnace cremation is the cleanest
@sim.ulationkoyo
@sim.ulationkoyo Год назад
water goes back to soil to become nutrients for plants. furnace goes into atmosphere traps as co2 and accelerates climate change.

Cleanest? Hello, you can smell burning all the way from Indonesia at times, where do you think these burnings end up? In our lungs 🤦🏻‍♂️

Nothing peaceful about this process. I don't want fur baby to be drowned in these weird liquid. The animal already suffered so much to die, no need to go through another round of this weird liquid suffering .

Hey everyone Just think, the liquefied remains from a green cremation is flushed down the drain into the sewage pipes and it winds up in the water people use in their sink faucet and shower/bathtub so the next time you use water from the sink or take a shower just think about where that came from because it might surprise you on where it came from.... it may have been from a funeral home or crematory and contains liquefied human remains.

It's quite a flawed analysis. Pls understand water filtration process or see how other countries recycle or treat their water for various uses. My family does hope this technology can be used for more purposes as its more environmentally friendly which doesn't not pollute the environment and at the save time efficient.
