There is no algae-free aquarium. Each planted aquarium is bound to have some algae. But then no planted aquarium enthusiast would like to have a disastrous algae outbreak.
In this video, we speak about one simple step which if done properly and regularly can help you control algae.
Fish waste, dead fish or leave, or uneaten food gets converted into organic DETRITUS. DETRITUS accumulates in the substrate
If DETRITUS is not removed regularly, then they will surely help algae to bloom. Proper removal of DETRITUS plays a very critical role in aquarium algae control.
In this video, we have demonstrated the use of SIPHON PIPE and a DROPPER to clean DETRITUS. It is important that DETRITUS is cleaned regularly during weekly water changes.

Sir, How to remove the detritus from planted tank where substrate (active substrate) is covered by plants (especially tall plants)?
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 2 года назад
A good observation. For areas covered with plants especially stem plants, the only option is to cut the top halves, remove the bottom portion, do detritus removal and then replant

I just watched your video while search Deep in the internet for a solution. I have a 5 gallon tank and my first aquarium after the third month i noticed detritus, mulm, and algae all over the tank and substrate. The algae won't go away and i noticed that even the top soil is full of dust and dirt. I watched this and will be trying your method. I only have a 5 gallon tank so it would take me a long long time. Hopefully this will help in stopping algae growth

Thanks for your effort to keep the hobby alive, I have a severe BBA algae outbreak in my 2ft Dutch style tank.it is a stable tank 1 yr old ,all of a sudden outbreak happened after filter cleaning last week. I had to completely cut all stem plants and replant only algae free tops and trimmed montecarlo carpet so much that yellow levels exposed. Kindly inform what extra steps need to take. I use RO water with vitamix,saltyshrimp bark,greengain, green bacter.light reduced to 5.5 hr, co2 5.5 hr
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 2 года назад
BBA outbreak in a stable tank is not a common phenomenon. Going by what you have mentioned, we guess, the filter cleaning somehow has destablized the beneficial bacteria colony which in turn helped the waste levels to go up. BBA normally comes due to lack of CO2 but then extra nutrients always helps them. You can consider adding ADA Phytongit or APT Fix to have an immediate control over the problem
@mahirudrasingh5391
@mahirudrasingh5391 2 года назад
by what you mentioned I think you cleaned the filter a bit too much resulting in algae breakout also idk if you wash your filter with the tank water only or normal tap water , do clean and wash it with the tank water otherwise the beneficial bacteria will die.

Thanks to all for their reply. I was not cleaning the detritus properly due to dense plantation and due to presence of many shrimps.accumulation of dirt unseen to me and some mistake in filter cleaning has done this, also my bacteria stock(NT lab filter starter/ADA super pour) was not available. I have discarded most of the affected plants, have done 50% water change,cleaned dirt.stable now but my montecarlo carpet is badly affected,cannot do a spot treatment at carpet, searching for ways to revive the carpet

You need to add a filter with not very high flow and biologically active media. Bettas come from acidic water environment and our municipal water is typically quite hard and definitely not the best water for bettas. Use water that you use for drinking. Almond leaves are good addition but has some disadvantages as well. Please consider visiting our gallery, our team can explain these points in further details. @ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 2 года назад
Normally green dust algae does not come in our gallery tanks so it might be difficult to make one, but we will definitely keep your request in mind. You see GDA normally comes with high phosphate levels in water which in turn happens because of fish food. Try and see that you do not have uneaten fish food or do not overfeed. Also if possible use fish foods like ADA AP series which does not increase phosphate levels

But if we have heavily planted tank, would the detritus loose its nutrient content and become harmless molm?
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 2 года назад
A very good question indeed. See detritus will never loose it's organic content as it's a byproduct of natural decay process. The point is that detritus formation happens in natural environment too, for example a flowing river. But then no one removes detritus from a flowing river. So why a river or a stream does not have too much of algae (unless there is stagnation in flow)? The answer lies in the fact that even if there is detritus but it's affect is not felt so much as the released nutrients gets "washed" away by the flowing water. In Nature Aquarium, we try to emulate nature and we plan to establish an ecological cycle. But then we do not have the luxury of changing water every day. So in Nature Aquarium we have no other choice but to remove detritus manually

That is not detritus, it's fine dust released by some of the ingredients of your substrate. The organic fine material ("mulm") looks different.

@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 3 месяца назад
Noted. But we believe it's kind of difficult to separate the two.
@GreatWhiteNiko
@GreatWhiteNiko 3 месяца назад
@@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 Not really. You just need to know how the mulm looks like. It has the appearenace of raggedy pieces with soft feel. If disturbed it easily becomes waterborne but 5-10 min later it settles completely and leaves the water clearer too. Dumped in a tank with algae - severe or not - it gets rid of everything other than plants - both biofilm and algae. The process takes about 3 weeks. You will not find info how to cultivate such mulm. The only practical advice is to have a stable properly established tank that does not develop algae within 3-5 days without care (99% of planted tanks are like that). @ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 2 года назад
Very good observation. You may have to create a DIY fixture. Some Chinese made fixtures are available in the market for larger tanks. Or we need to find a larger sized dropper. You can check out these Turkey Basters @ www.amazon.com/turkey-baster/s?k=turkey+baster. If nothing is available we need to use one of our hands to "fan" the substrate while the siphoning is in progress. This will dislodge the dust to an extent and then siphon can do the rest

@@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 Thanks for your reply , it looks very useful. By the way let me ask you , is it okay to have a 2feet height planted aquarium , will it pose any problems for fish not getting enough oxygen or plants not getting sufficient light ⁉️
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870
@ripplesnatureinspiredaquar6870 2 года назад
You can always go for a 2 ft deep tank. With proper filtration and plant growth you will not have oxygen problem. But definitely to make the plants grow you need lights with high penetration capabilities. Please check this video of ours ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dvaRsyyI1tI.html. It is a 2ft tank and is powered by two ADA Solar RGB lamps. Again you can use lights with lesser intensity but then you need to go for typical "shade" plants like Ferns, Anubias, Mosses, Crypts etc.
