Hi, thanks you so much for the wonderful instructions on replacing the UV lamp. The instructions that came with the lamp were not very clear and I was getting ready to call a plumber when I found your video, I was able to successfully change the lamp because each step was clearly shown. THANKS! Jennifer

Hi, I just watched your video and it was very helpful! I just tried changing the bulb out yesterday, but when I turned the water back on we had leakage. I am going to try again and see what happens. I may be back with questions! We've had a whole house system for about 4 years now and I am just starting to familiarize myself with it. Before that, we'd call the plumber and it was expensive to have him come and change things for us. It's not hard at all now that I am learning what to do. Thanks for the wonderful step-by-step explanations!

Thank you! I just changed my lamp and quartz sleeve - I broke the sleeve on the first attempt. Couldn’t get the black connector to just pull the top off and unscrewed the entire thing -which caused me to break the sleeve. But now I have it all put back together…lite is on 😊 wahoo!!!

Bypassing..aren’t you bypassing all the stuff you’re trying to filter out into the system that you’re trying to keep clean? I could understand bypassing if your filtration system broke and would be down for a while but, to contaminate it just for a 20min interruption?
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 17 дней назад
That is exactly not what I am doing. There is zero contamination. The video doesn't represent everyone's situation. Not every little thing is in the video because some people want BLUF. In my case, I turn the bypasses on and turn the water off. I also open and leave open the faucet on the top floor and bottom floor. If there is anything it would only be back flow since my house is three stories. The bypass is precautionary. The bypass is not on to use water in the house while the UV light is being changed out. Also, turning on the bypasses and turning off the water reliefs pressure at the UV light, pre and post filters. I have never had water flow through the bypasses while changing a filter or UV light. Note: a bypass is good to have because there have been numerous people who have broken their UV light quartz sleeve and have to wait for a new one. Glass fragments are in the UV light reactor. Without a bypass this could not be isolated from the system.

You don't have to change it because it is going to burn out in that time, you change it because over time the light quality degrades and the UV produced is weaker and becomes less and less effective. UV light bulbs are very durable and can go for a long time before they lose a significant portion of their power. It’s important to understand that UV light bulbs often don’t actually burn out in the same sense as regular bulbs. Rather, the bulb’s intensity diminishes over time. Most UV bulbs designed for use in household water purification systems are rated for about 9,000 hours (375 days of continuous on time). This comes out to just over one year of continuous use. After 9,000 hours, the typical UV light bulb will have lost around 40% of its intensity. While it will still work, its effectiveness at killing bacteria and other pathogens will be severely reduced. That’s usually the point when the bulb needs to be swapped out.

Thanks for the in-depth information. I am aware of what you have stated, but I don't agree with changing it out just to change it out because a manual and a company tells me too. Just like companies that like to make money, I like to save money when I can. I am 127 days past the recommended change out. I pulled the quartz sleeve just to check it. I cleaned it. I don't know whether the intensity of the bulb has changed, but it appears to be working the same as it has in the past.

Did you use CLR on both the inside and outside of the sleeve? Did you just soak it and let it sit in the CLR or scrub it? Should I let it air dry or do you have a faster way to dry it on the inside? Excellent video and explanation by the way! TIA
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY Год назад
You mainly need to use it on the outside, but it's okay to get it on the inside, as long as you rinse it really well. I just sprayed it on and let it sit for 5 mins. Everything came off really easy. Don't use anything abrasive to clean it. If you can let it air dry, let it air dry, if not use a hairdryer. Be careful and don't let it get too hot. Make sure it is completely dry on the inside before reinstalling! Thanks for watching and asking questions.

so, nowhere does Aquasana state that if the UVC light is still working, to just keep it until it burns out and THEN replace it. I know it says 365 days - but I am gonna wait to see how long it takes to burn out... I can see the light from the Blue PEX lines that I used in the dark - ESPECIALLY when they sell these bulbs for a whopping $120 or $130 which I think is simply ridiculous.

My quartz sleev me is broken can you tell me how to bypass the system until a new one comes In
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY Год назад
Two options... (1) It's possible, but only if you take the whole UV assembly out of the equation. You would need to completely remove the UV reactor and replace it with PVC pipe, PVC Elbows, and threaded PVC couplings. I don't know if you have the tools or how to, but hopefully you know someone who can help you out. (2) The only other way to bypass the UV reactor is if a bypass was put in. Do you know if you have a bypass? My bypass is the long blue pipes on the wall that you see in the video. They are labelled "bypass" too. Do you see any shut-off valves on any of the pipes? In my video I have three with orange handles.

I was not aware of the quartz sleeve that the bulb goes in and just went to pull it out. Ours was broken! So, I guess I will have to call aquasana and find out what to do. I'm guessing I will probably have to get a new UV tank...
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and commenting. You should not need a new UV tank (reactor), but you will need a new quartz sleeve, if it is broke. Did your quartz sleeve break inside the UV reactor? Unless you are uncomfortable doing it you should be able to disconnect your UV reactor (the part that has the quartz sleeve and UV lamp in it) to remove the broken quartz sleeve pieces. Caution! Disconnect power. Turn water off. There is a spring loaded clamp at the bottom that holds the bottom of the quartz sleeve in place that may be difficult to remove, It can still be removed though. Take a metal hanger, put a little hook on the end with a pair of pliers, wrap some paper towel around the hook that looks like it will fit tightly in the quartz sleeve. Push it to the bottom of the quartz sleeve and slowly pull up. It should pull the quartz sleeve up. If there are still broken glass pieces in the UV reactor, place it over a bucket and flush it out with a water hose. I am surprised to hear your quartz sleeve is broke. Unless it was defective, the only ways to break it are to excessively tighten the plastic nut (gland nut) on the very top or drop it. The gland nut should only be tightened by hand. Replacement UV Quartz Sleeve: Verify UV Reactor # on side of UV Reactor. UV Reactor Model AQ-UV-10C is AQ-UV-Q330. UV Reactor Model AQ-UV-15C is AQ-UV-Q420. You may have to buy an aftermarket one. I could not find the quartz sleeve on their website. Hope this all helps.

@@RoCDIY Hello and thanks so much for getting back to me! Yes, it did break inside of the silver tank. So I guess that means the glass and spring are inside the tank. Do you know of a way to get it out and not have to buy a new one? Thanks again for your help!

Hi. So hopefully this is last question. When you put the quartz sleeve back in does it protude out a bit or is it flush. When I put my quartz sleeve in it does not go all the way down so that it fits fliush with the chamber. Should the o-ring be at the very top of the quartz sleeve or fit flush with the top of the chamber? Thanks
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 2 года назад
I really don't mind the questions at all, so ask away. The quartz sleeve will protrude a little at the top. The o-ring will sit flush with the threaded portion of the chamber. It may be difficult to see, but 7:22 of the video shows what it should look like.

hi. I am replacing my uv per your video. The only question is that when I put in the quartz sleeve in the reactor the reactor is full of water. How do I get rid of that?
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 2 года назад
Hello Carol. I don't know how your system is installed, but you should be able to put a bucket underneath and loosen the PVC connector to get the water out. Also, you could just leave the water as is. Wrap a paper towel around the top. Slowly insert the quartz sleeve. You may get a little bit of spillage, just make sure it doesn't go in the quartz sleeve.

@@RoCDIY thanks for your prompt reply. I ended up using a turkey baster and got a lot of the water out with that. So I got it all back together and it didnt go well, lol. So now I am trying to get the black cap off which doesn't want to come off to redo it. I am not a plumber, lol. Recently widowed so got to figure out things for myself. Anywho, thank for you reply.
@RoCDIY
@RoCDIY 2 года назад
@@carolynsue2 Sorry you are having trouble with this. As soon as you said water came out the sides, it immediately made me think of the o-ring that goes around the top of the quartz sleeve. Did you put the new o-ring on or use the old one? The o-ring prevents the water from coming out after you put the black cap (gland nut) on. See 6:39 of the video where it shows I have the o-ring on the quartz sleeve.
