A great day for flying with some great images. Shame about the abrupt end to the session. But looking at the video it is easy to see why you missed seeing that tree as ot blending into the wood behind it at that unfortunate flightpath. Great to see your enthusiasm undiminished and your immediate intent to acquire a new AR-Pro airframe. Thankfully all the electronics looked to have survived. Did they?
Yes it really was too late to take avoiding action when I realised that tree was in the foreground and not part of the wood behind. It was only foam damage all electronics, cams and lipo were fine luckily.
Good video. Do not worry, if desired, even this model can be glued together. Or maybe this is the beginning of a new project. Even more exciting and fun. :)
Sorry Alexey I missed this comment, RU-vid has messed my comments up somehow. I have glued so many together :-) I have a had another couple of crashes since this one but am nbuilding new AR Pro's with balsa elevons and lamination now so hopefully less damage if I do crash again
Came here on my research for arwing pro. Sorry for your crash! Cannot even blame you for this crash - the tree really came out of the background. I know ghost branches, but this was a whole ghost tree ;) Good you found all the stuff. Greets from Austria, Mario
Hi Mario yes it did come out of nowhere the trees behind in the distance did not help either. I have watched quite a few of your videos and really enjoyed them. I hope to one day fly in the mountains, maybe next year. Austria looks epic. Heading to Germany tonight for a weeks flying with friends. Not flown for quite a while as I am renovating my house so really excited to be getting back in the air.
Hi Silvio I hope all is good with you. The weinter here is coming to an end so hopefully I can get out for many more flying adventures. How are things with you had any good flights recently?
@@SILVIOFRANCO1 Very hot and going to fly all wkd, now you are just rubbing it in and making me very jealous :-) I would love to see some of your footage of the area where you fly. Where in the world are, please remind me?
Glenn, the second you hit the tree I had that feeling of doom and despair come over me which I'm sure many others have felt too. Then there is the long walk of shame and the hunt for all those precious bits....gutted for you... had the kids out on Sunday looking for bits from last weekend's Dart XLe failed "bomb run"!!! All those hours of work gone in a spilt second... on a happier note, great footage as usual and thanks for posting mate🤨. Makes me feel the same as the rest when I too am picking up bits.... cheers. Mick.
Hi Mick, it was such a lovely day and i really enjoyed the short flight. These things happen but this time I found all the best bits, it painful when you lose a GoPro. Get that glue out for the XLE :-)
@@bluefish3607 Sadly she has been glued a few too many times so I have bit the bullet and got out the replacement fuselage... thing is now I don't want to throw her up just in case there is a catastrophe!!! Might just stare at it for a while.... whilst she's in one piece 😆
So sorry, Blue Fish. Am on my 3rd and got another kit at home. I love this wing. Yesterday did a 11.5 miles trip with mine. Today it's pouring where I am. Still have INAV 3.2 on mine. Glad to see that the 4.0 works really well.
Hi Karlos, based upon that very short inav 4.0 experince it seemed good with my old trim settings. I just ordered two, one for DJI proximity and one for long range. Such a versatile wing I really do like it. 11.5 miles thats a nice run.
@@bluefish3607 I did that stretch on two 6S 4000mah. Could have gone further. Didn't even need all that. Was my last 6S day on AR. I browned out the 2218 brother hobby reunion on the first day on 6S last week... but was fun. Am back to 4S. Yesterday received two of those 7000mah and tried one today. I'll put put 4.0 on mine today and tune it tomorrow.
So sorry man... I just did exactly the same thing the other day. I got mine back together, and flew today actually. Good luck man, don't be hard on yourself; that tree scared the shit out of me too lol.
You are one of the rare ones that ask for permission. We had people driving on our farm all year round trying to fly quads and RC fixedwing. Everyone seems to think they are entitled to do whatever they want with other peoples property without asking. We was letting a few people fly our property but that soon got out of hand when we came up one day and found literally a festival of RC enthusiast camping and partying ON our property. They also was driving cars and dirt bikes through our Freshly planted field all 168 acres of it! Caused over $13,000 in damages. Guess who had to pay that. Not them. Way to much entitlement on these young folks minds these days and almost zero respect so we put a stop to it and now I am only one flying there and god help who ever gets caught on our property ever again. Its unfortunate you can't trust people anymore.
The landowner is a customer of my IT services business and I also did some free aerial photography of some of his real estate and he offered my the opportunity to fly there. I will respect the property (maybe not his tree's) and never take anyone else. Any chance you can make an exception and allow me to fly around your property :-)
Holy shit Glenn, good to see you back up and posting flights again. To bad about the Pro, lucky all the gear is still usable. That Sunnysky motor is the same one i am using on the AR 900 Classic with the 8x5, getting 145kph out of it. Love those Sunnysky V3's. Good to see you again sir, keep the coming. Cheers
Yes hopefully can get out and about a little more this year. I love those SunnySky MKII motors. I might build a new AR900 as this was my first wing and it will be fun to fly one now I have a little more experience.
So sorry for your plane, I did crash my AR-Wing pro due to servo failure just after upgrading to INAV 3.0. I know the feeling when counting the bits on the ground. Enjoy the rebuilding.
Sorry for late reply Papy RU-vid messed up my comments coming thru, I have resolved it with them now. Yes I had another recent crash when a friend chasing me chopped through a servo cable with his prop. My crash record is not so good I need to fly more sensibly!
@@bluefish3607 Fly crash repair is all part of the hobby. Most important is to enjoy it and have fun. Don't worry about the late reply, can happen. Regards
I ended up 3d printing a skid for the AR wing pro you can glue on and it gives you something to hold on to launch it with one hand, instead of doing the 2 hand over the head throw lol, hopefully it works.
Great video! Do you think that the AR wing 900mm has a better foam frame? My next purchase hopefully will be the AR wing pro. What’s your thoughts on the difference in durability in the foam between the two air frames?
Sorry for late reply I have had some issues with my comments coming through but fixed now. BNoth airframes are about the same in terms of foam quality, its how you fly them and how heavy they are when they crash that makes the difference to durability I guess. Both great wings imo.
@@bluefish3607 Thanks for your reply I have a question. I noticed when you overhead throw your AR Wing it shoots up over your head instead of straight out behind you. I am having the same characteristics. I’m just wondering if it’s because the control surfaces are raised up a bit after auto tune. Once in the air it fly’s great. What’s your thoughts on this?
@@bluefish3607I see that you do lots of motor and propeller experiments. On my AR Wing Pro I have installed the SunnySky 2216 1400 kv III, with a 9X6 Prop and flying with a 3S 5000 MAH Hobbyking lipo, and with this i get about 25-30 mins of Flight time just sharing my information. Thanks again..
The best new recent feature on iNAV is the constant trim function. It's NOT switched on by default....No messing with trims or clevises...It works well. How did you hit that tree...? Try using the throttle now and again...🤔🇬🇧
I played around a little bit with it on my Dart XL and was not that impressed. Mechanical trim and then Autotrim and fine adjustrments works pretty well for me. Low level in a new spot with the trees behind the one I hit it was hard to see and approaching it at 80 mph did not allow me to avoid it sadly. No matter kits are so cheap and rather the foam be destroyed than my GoPro and all the expensive parts.
Glad to see a new video from you, sorry about the crash though! That is the proximity FPV life though, isn't it? LOL. Can't wait to see your 2 new AR Pro's!
@BlueFish and the fun begins again! Obviously one will be a dji proximity. What are your plans for the more long range one? Same basic setup, but different motor prop combo?
Great to share your failures as well as your successes. I repaired my AR wing Pro after a bad crash but it always oscillated in any assisted flying mode no matter what I did to the pids. Wise to just order a new one.
Glenn, Glad to see you get some flights and posting some great youtube content... Sorry you busted up your AR Wing Pro, flying in the winter around trees is rough. No leaves makes the branches disappear .. I piled in my Zohd Dart 250g in a leaf-less tree recently... Guess you'll be ordering another one in short order.... Looking forward to seeing more from you soon... Will (SteffenRC)
Hi Steffen, I did not see the tree because it blended into the tree in the background and at 80mph had no chance to avoid it. Did you have much damage on the 250G its a lot lighter so hopefully not destroyed. 2 more Ar pros arriving tomorrow to build.
@@bluefish3607 Yep, at 80mph even EPP doesn't hold up.. You'd need a few liters of Foam-Tac to bring that AR Pro back to life.. The Dart 250 wasn't too bad. Sheared a wing off, but Foam-tac fixed it in short order. Enjoy the build on the new AR Wings. Start printing all those special parts now...
What size is that wing, is it the 900? Looks very stable in flight. I’ve been thinking about getting the ar pro 1000mm or the zohd rebel gt. looking for something nice and stable to fly long range. Speed not important.
Its an AR Pro with 1000 wingspan. In my opinion a great all rounder great fun proximity and a very capable long range platform, with huge bay for big bateries. I have a ZOHD Dart XLE for long range and that is also exceptional imo and can acrry more payload than the Rebel GT. best wishes and happy flying with whatever you go for.
@@bluefish3607 ok thank you. I have the dart xl extreme, so the first version. Do you know if there is much difference between that and the xle. In your opinion, what model would you go for on a long range. Kinda easy to set up and launch. Not done loads of flying so would like a nice stable, easy launcher. Thanks Terry
I put a matek in the xl but couldn’t get it to launch. Not sure why, rolls and comes down head first. Tried throwing it and overhead launch. I put a kopilot lite in it and can launch that. Also I have a nano talon evo with matek fc. Autolaunch works fine and launch’s easy enough with it.
@@bluefish3607 ok thank you. Yours looks to fly really good prior to crash. Hopefully I get 1 and set it up just aswell. I will be keeping my eye out for a ar pro 1000 now. Will soon be 1 flying around my home town in Bedfordshire hopefully 😉. 👍🏻
Could you please share your settings? That or do you have the Inav 4.0 diff you would share? I've built the same setup basically as my first wing. Ready for maiden if my settings are right.
Hi You can get my diff all here. I have not had chance to tune the plane yet with 4.0 so its pretty much stock apart from my OSD. I have removed my gyro calibration settings so you dont copy those by mistake. Good luck with the maiden. drive.google.com/file/d/1SFM45GG6wW-hn-LdnyW3ACBF4TxAfVyI/view?usp=sharing
I was thinking today I hadn't seen a video for a while and then you post this :-| I watched this back at .25 speed. The tree was perfectly blended in to the background until it was too late. If you get another AR Wing Pro, would you change anything?
Hi Neil, yes I did not see it because it blended into the background but at 80mph I just did not have time to react and avoid it. I have ordered 2 new kits and will just put the components from the crashed wing into the new kit. I really like the way I have it setup so won't change anything and for the small amount of time I had to test the new prop and motor think I will keep that. I am building the second one for long range and endurance so will probably use the brotherhobby 1250KV motor and 9x5 prop on that one.
Hey sorry to see this I love your channel great footage up to the end please do get another wing and keep the great flying up I flew my ar wing 900 first flight today went ok needs more tuning but will get there.. thanks for sharing this .. true legend it was yourself that made me go for the wings watching your channel big like as always
Glad you enjoyed it, I have 2 kits on the way so will be back in the air soon. I think I might build a new AR900 as it was my first wing and now I have a little more experience it will be fun to build and fly one of those again. Are you running inav 4.0 on your AR900?
@@bluefish3607 yes I am running 4.0 this inav is all new to me so I got a friend who flys wings all the time to help so after todays first flight we will make a few adjustments but that’s great to hear you have a couple of wings coming I’m using vtx rush solo tank but my next wing I will go digital
I have my launch idle throttle at 1200 you could try upping that a bit so there is not such a ramp up when the launch throttle kicks in, mine is set at 1850.
DOH! That was a ninja tree. I didn't see it till just before the impact either. Because of the low angle, from the view of the plane the tree was camouflaged against the big copse of trees further back. Glad you got all the expensive bits back OK.
Yeah Charlie, exactly right, I didn't see it until too late, I was running at 80 mph. Did my best to bank left but no chance. New foam on the way, we will be back in the air next weekend fingers crossed.
Hi Crunk, glad you realise it wasn't pilot error :-) Loved your Albabird sunset over water flight. Maybe a jaunt over the north sea for me is in order as long as those wind turbines stay still I will be fine.
@@bluefish3607 HAHA it's never pilot error! Now that I would love to see! We have some Turbines off the coast near me however I've not ventured out there yet as the winds have never been favourable when I've been over that way.
Ouch nice flight ruin by branch of tree, yeah it's difficult to avoid that naked tree (without leaves) like that..but it look "over damage" from that crash, you should considering to laminate your model, mine always laminate they are now like a flying tank :)
I laminated my original AR 900 and may laminate my 6S AR Pro that I am planning on building and also add some balsa elevons. That said even laminated that crash ito that tree at 80mph would have resulted in a total loss I think.
@@bluefish3607 with that speed of course I understand, I also wouldn't have imagined it would be scratchless when laminated, of course there will always be scratches and wrinkles that must be repaired even if it's a soft crash, but at least everything is intact and no foam are missing 🙂
Noooooo! Thanks for sharing even though it stings. My AR Pro with SS 2216 1400kv on 8x6 is one of my favorite planes. I think I'm going to swap the ES08MDII servos for 09MDs though, as sometimes I feel like the control surfaces are struggling during 100MPH passes. Looking forward to your next build!
Hi Jacob, you know what I think that at those kinds of speeds the AR Pro elevons probably start to distort, they do not seem very strong. I might pop a set of balsa elevons on my new plane and see how that feels. Like you this is defo one of my current fav planes.
Wow that came out of nowhere, sorry buddy I know the work we put into these build's. Was wondering if you could possibly share your INAV 4 launch settings ?

@@johndeesfpv9289 Yes I do so then it launches and goes straight into loiter around home so I can get my goggles on etc then take control when I am ready. You could also launch and then flick into position hold so it circles in front of you rather than around you if you prefer.
Yes I was worried about that as I have crashed a Dart XL in loiter. When the new one is built I will work hard on trying to minimise the horizon drift.
Feel sorry for you. The same was for me with an invisible tree: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bQg8JIvUli4.html My losses then were FC and FPV camera. I hope to see the updated wing again soon. Good luck :)
I had though it would have something to do with iNAV 4 when I read the title but of cause it was the fault of the tree that jumped into the flight path without permission. Really fast growing trees in the UK. Cheers for the beer and the order of the spares needed.
I would not know about that I am not an aerospace engineer nor do I have enough experience of other planes, I just enjoy flying it. But I will take your word for it and will be able to draw a comparison maybe when my Ritewing Mini Drak is finished.
11:50 man I see a lot of plaque and tarter man there's so much brown and calcium build up in the bottom of your lower teeth you need a deep cleaning then a whitening
I think it was the peanut butter on toast I had before I left home, I will remember to brush them next time before going flying. not sure about the whitening tho I heard that can damage your teeth, besides I love coffee too much 😀
