That is great, I love your stl thx! It would be great if someone could create a sort of protection for the camera. It could get ripped off during the landing.
Experiments! Looks like your on the fence between 8 or 9 inch props . Check out master airscrew . They have 8.5 inch props ! Also trying 5s . I find 8 in burns a lot of amps but 9 inch does what happened to you . When you throttle down you can't take off flying with big battery! I'm trying 5 s with sunnysky 2212_980kv and 9 inch prop . Not enough power to take off with 4s , motor burns with 5s ! If you know of a motor this size , low kv that can take 5s let us know ! Also my setup is on ar900 classic wing . Thanks and keep touching on these topics !
Hi Ron I think I havce settled on the 8x4.5 props on 4S with the Sunnysky 2216 1400Kv motor, it gives me good performance for proximity and reasonable flight times if I am not over heavy on the throttle too often. I am using the APC 8x4.5 multirotor props and Aeronaut Cam Carbon Light. I am building another AR Pro with a bit more of a cruising style and am going with the Brotherhobby Reunion 2318 1250KV on 4S with a 9x5 Prop. This still gives good performance but also a bit more efficiency if i want to extend flight time. This setup is also a bit quieter which can sometimes be useful. I am using the Aeronaut Cam cardbon 9x5. I am looking to run my new Mini Drak build on 5S and have a Badass 2814 1300Kv and will be testing props for that but probably looking at an APC 7x5 or 7x6.
I use the short shaft. I got my last three from Ali Express. They came in about 10 days. www.aliexpress.com/item/4000182022135.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.27.3d596134XcXlC9&algo_pvid=e513d8a0-fb27-41a4-b6bc-31017234e7e6&algo_exp_id=e513d8a0-fb27-41a4-b6bc-31017234e7e6-13&pdp_npi=3%40dis%21GBP%2136.42%2117.11%21%21%21%21%21%402100bc5c16846577666838277d07ba%2110000000664943191%21sea%21UK%21128719519&curPageLogUid=APJSFvKXrmAN
What's the secret on balancing the AR. I'm having a hard time finding the right CG balance. I'm not running a gopro so I resorted to adding large washers under the battery.
I setup my AR Pro with the GoPro the added weight into the battery compartment until I hit perfect CG. That told me the ideal lipo weight I needed and it happened that the chnl 5000mah 4S was about the weight I needed. My strategy was to get the heaviest lipos possible to hit CG as I would rather have more lipo and flight time than dead weight to hit CG with a smaller battery.
Well it definitely improves crash resistance and if if gets scuffed up you can peel it off and reapply. I only have mine from the nose to the front of the side hatches top and bottom. you can try it and if you don’t lime it peel it off and lam it.
Hi Greg, There is no standard OSD in inav you create one according to your own requirements and preference. This is my own design and preference. I hope that helps.
@@bluefish3607 Ok thanks, I was hoping it came with an OSD or something you can program in a flight controller, the flight controller you are using are getting difficult to find. Have fun, break a leg.
@@vipertruck100 That was just a tool that allows you to add some OSD elements to the GoPro footage. The Matek flight controller and inav give a full OSD in the goggles that you can record if you wish. Although the Matek F405 Wing FC is now discontinued all other Matek FC’s support full OSD with inav.
Great to see more of your empirical testing Glen. Another prop break - inevitable using brittle fixed wing props. I know that you don't like folding props, so why not try durable quadcopter props? You are familiar with quads, so I am surprised that you have not made the connection yourself. Quad prop are quite literally unbreakable! My Vantac AR+ Wing came with Gemfan 51x32x3 3-blade - on a marginal launch it would cut grass and still take-off! The tips can wear doing that, so that is the only reason I have had to replace the prop. Works great on my Durafly EFX Racer too - no more broken props on that craft! By testing I found that 8x6x2 has an equivalent 3-blade equivalent of the HQProp 7x3.5x3. There are other pitches like 7x4x3. More of your testing would confirm which was more suited to your needs. Never break a prop again!
The APC 8 x 4.5 I am using are multi-rotor props and virtually indestructible, so I am with you there 100% My launch technique is pretty poor so I am going to focus on improving that. Hopefully I will get out Monday as there may be a break in the wet and windy weather.
Is your footage smoothed in software or is that raw from the camera? It's beautifully smooth, looks glorious. Quite a wide lens, that helps a lot with shake but still, very impressive. A visual feast.
The OSD is added with Dashware and the footage is smoothed with Reelsteady Pro 2. You could never get smooth footage like that with an AR Pro unless it was almost flat calm which is very rae where I live.
I had some of those thicker APC 8x6 props, they did NOT work well on either my AR wing Pro or my Ranger 2000. The thinner ones...........were great on multiple planes/wings (all 1400kv)
Thats a quad motor and I have no experience with them unfortunately. I guess it would be ok for a light weight build. Give it a test and see how it works out, it will be fun.
I recently installed your previous build with the t-motor esc and reunion motor, but I just added a TBS folding prop set to it. I am getting a lot of thrust with this setup. You should try adding them to your test as well.
Sadly I damged my T-Motor ESC in a heavy crash, they are fantastic and I will get some more in future for sure. The 9X5 Aeronaut is great on that Reunion, I have never thought about using a folding prop, which one do you use, size and pitch?
Great tests. Shame the nitro prop didn’t fit. Not sure it would of done aswell as the others anyway. Think it could of been more efficient but speed May of been reduced quite a bit maybe. Not sure
Im not sure either, I need to test the 8x6 again with the Brotherhobby motor as people have pointed out the lipo was quite discharged so it was not like for like, I will post up the results.
One of the best upgrades I have ever done makes the plane handle so much better and especially at higher speeds. I will be fitting balsa elevons on all my future builds.
Glenn, Great test.. I've been using the Sunnsky 2216 1400v3 on mine. 8x5 stock prop.. Good performance over the V2 motors.. Might try the Hobby Bros.... Been flying my AR Classic 900 as a close proximity chase plane at my club... Its been a blast getting back into FPV and upgrading all my boards to INAV 5.1... 🙂
Someone just commented to try a HQ 8x5 prop so I am going to give one a try as I think the motor could take a little more than the 8x4.5 which actually flies really well tbh. Glad you enjoying your AR 900, the wing I started with and I love it. I plan to build another one in the new year during the dark cold months.
@@bluefish3607 I like the AR900, but I like my AR Wing Pros better.. I think the additional weight and wing surface just flies great. Just got that new motor for the AR Pro.. Plan to upgrade from INAV 3 to 5.1 and the motor for some winter cruising... Glad you are posting content again... Head out to that quarry and get some new videos for us.. (Really enjoyed that video...). - Will
@@bluefish3607 Glenn, I just rebuilt one of my AR Wing Pros with DJI, INAV 5.1 and some bling... I'll post a video about it soon enough.. I really love the AR Wing Pro over all the other FPV planes.. The performance envelop is wonderful. Thanks for getting back on the AR Wing Pro..... - Will
The Reunions windings burned on my ARP a few days ago. 4S LiIon setup, 8x6 APC-e prop 😞. Was doing a bit aircombat with my friend and ripping the ARP quite well for a few minutes. It shouldnt burn though. You might try the HQ 8x5x2 props too with those motors.
Lipo #2 was done for when you launched it to test the 8 x 6 prop....voltage sag on the speed pass. Of course the Aeronaut Prop is the winner.... quieter too of course..🤔😏😏🇬🇧 wish we could have seen the real live feed instead of the sterile HD stabilized wierdy zoomy stuff...🤔
@@bluefish3607 Predictable really, the Chinese props are generally speaking terrible...The APC props gained fame amongst the IC fraternity many years ago. The electric lightweight versions were of course cloned by the Chinese...like everything else decent..🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧
Thanks for sharing these tests! I burned a SS 2216 1400kv v3 on a failed launch when the prop was stuck in the ground. Put the original PNP SS 2216 1400kv v2 on and flew that on APC 8x6 for a while. Then I got another v3 and put that back on. All three have been amazing (in flight) on the 8x6 APC with them never being very warm. I suspect maybe a defect in the one you had? I was initially skeptical of running 8x6 on 1400kv since the "classic" FPV plane combination was 2216 1250kv with 8x6, but again, all three motors on my AR Pro have been great. Does about 115MPH in a slight dive. Need some more stuff to try on your test rig? I found and printed some extra wing fences for mine but haven't fitted them yet. Reports are split between helps/doesn't help. Files: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4975689 Looking forward to seeing your new builds!
Hi Jacob, I have burned 2 MKIII 1400kv motors now on those APC 8x6 so not sure why you are getting away with it. I have just ordered 4 different 8x5 props to test but the APC 8x4.5 seems to give pretty good all round performance and efficiency. Not that I tend to fly in an effient manner I am quite throttle heavy. Fins look interesting they might be worth a shot, thanks for the link Jacob.
