I bought a kit with a knurled pin and after watching this I took my rifle apart and installed a milspec one. Had I installed the right one I wouldn't have had to take the barrel off
That is a VERY early part. Originally they were knurled to help grip a vice or hammer blows. The knurled end would be "flared" to keep it from walking out. This flaring was done by smashing the knurled end. The U.S. military (at the time) really discouraged barrel removal so the C clip method was introduced to facilitate replacing the parts without barrel nut removal. I would save that pin as a conversation piece or sell it to some retro fanatic.
Didn't know that it was an earlier design? Will most likely be going with the "C" clip version for the reasons that you stated. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@davidschaadt3460 That's a downside for sure! I was thinking if you were very careful you could file down the knurling and slide it out but that would be a lot of trouble. I just put a "C" clip pin on order so I'll be removing the knurled one.
I Would Go With The Mil Spec Pete That Way You Can Still Replace a Damaged Dust Cover Without Removing Your Barrel Nut and Gas Tube Ect 😊😀😊 With A Mil Spec You Can slide it Backwards Past The Forward Assist and Replace The Pin Spring and Dust Cover if Need Be 😎😊👍🏼
@@peteregger7928 Thanks Pete. Actually took 7 months off RU-vid, got real sick with a bacteria running thru my blood. When they finally found it all it took was a weeks worth of strong antibiotic to get me back to feeling better👍 Hope you are doing good too Pete💯
@@peteregger7928 At the 1:31 time stamp, when you show the Arcon data sheet, in the far right column under assembly, there are part numbers for an applicator & dispenser. Don't think you would be doing enough builds to require a dispenser, but an applicator might be of interest. Part# AM 50. Depending on the cost, it might be less expensive to just buy a bag of those little "Jesus clips" & have plenty of spares to play with. A hundred years ago, I used to be nearsighted & but could see great detail. Now, I'm always reaching for a pair of reader's, & have them strategically placed around the house.😄
I've decided I'm going with the "C" clip design. I have never purchased anything from SOLGW so I have no experience with any of their stuff or customer service?
@@peteregger7928 C clip seems like the right design choice, and I've seen people able to remove them without disassembling the entire upper. I got a SOLGW lower parts kit expecting the "KNS Nitried pins" to include the take down pins. Seemed like a simple question to ask if there had been a mistake or old stock, but they wouldn't even reply
