Michael MacConn you know I don't think it did pause @2.29 you can clearly see the round the rear of it is pretty much intact and the front is muchroomed flat! Like they said it lost most of its energy hitting the plate, but I guess it could have still buried its self in the dirt.

I physics hard bro, I realize the sudden acceleration would shatter the stock. You would need a reduced power load, and likely a spring or some other cushioning to reduce the impulse from the shot. You would also likely need to cut the stock off completely behind the trigger to have any chance of fitting it in a cannon. Finally the triggering mechanism would need to have a string (likely a strong fishing line) tied to the trigger with 20 feet of slack and positioned carefully so as not to be cut by the rifle as it leaves the cannon, a tricky proposition. Assuming you can get the rifle to fit in the cannon, survive being fired, and have a string pull the trigger on it mid-flight, the speed of the round would be greater than if it were fired from a stationary rifle.

cutlerylover No. What's better is to not be in front of the cannon. Failing that, it's better to have the plate on a bodyguard between you and the cannon. Then you just get hit with a relatively low-velocity bodyguard. What was that, 45,000 ft-lb? 450lb bodyguard ("Oook") at ...? 24 oz at 1405 fps is 46012 ft-lb according to Bill St Clair. By momentum, a 4800 oz i.e. 300 lb bodyguard would be doing 70.25 fps. Close to 48 mph, with 23005 ft-lb of impact energy. No, I think you need to not be in the way at all.

Sableagle I make that 7.025 fps for the bodyguard. 1.5lb / 300lb = 0.005; 1405 fps * 0.005 = 7.025 fps, not 70.25. That would probably knock you down, but it wouldn't kill you.

I have never seen and would much appreciate seeing what happens when a round iron or stone cannonball is fired against a mocked up stone castle wall. Siege cannons brought about the end of the castle as a fortified retreat and this was the most important consideration in the history of the cannon. Thanks.

Whoa the south has rised again! Reminds me of Major Pelham at Fredericksburg with "Ole Nappy" and a couple of Parrotts on a grassy knoll. Wonder how a double cannister cans would do. Used something like this with my 7-1/2 birdshot to see the effective range for upland game.

Maybe put a sand bag behind the armor plate so it doesnt fly off. Or maybe some kind of a steel penetrator drilled and installed into the centre core of the projetile. Just and idea! Love the videos guys!!!!!!!!

Eric you asked for a suggestion. Every RU-vid vid about armor 500 ive seen shows shots in a 90 degree verticale as horizontal angle towards the barrel. What happens with different angles and specialy in terms of ricochets and colatarel body damage.

Fun video, maybe put sand bags behind the plates for support or put the plates on a jell block. Also please please try some kind of steal core shot from the cannon, drill a hard pin into the led. Then try AR 500, will go through for sure.

Bro. Please get a ballistics gel torso with organs of some sort. Put a plate carrier with empty mags (or full if you're feeling dangerous. ) and an AR500 plate then hit it with the ounce. Slowmo from the side to see the energy transfer.

Very cool! Please try this again, but secure the AR500 plate to a torso sized block of ballistics gel. But when you 'cook' the gel, first place a few pieces of fruit inside to simulate the organs. Then see if they go squish like you suggested? (Might have to use sticks or straws to keep them in place whilst it sets.)

Lets try doing the same thing with the ballistic gel (torso shape) or clay at the back of the plate to see the impact on human body, and while at it, rest them on the back stop to so they don't free flying backward, and let the test medium absorb all the energy! Great great video by the way!!!

Armor plate on ballistic gel torso placed against a solid backstop so all the energy is expelled into the armor and gel. Them see if it makes it through the plate and if it turns the gel to jelly.

Would like to see the plate fully supported so it would take all of the energy instead of losing energy being flung backwards. Maybe a welded steel support frame spiked into the ground. Try shooting a large carbide endmill at it. Would love to see what happens to that on impact.

For a cannon load, how about several (maybe say a dozen) 3 to 6ft lengths of 1/4" cable weighted on the ends.

I bet that not having any mass behind the plate reduced the energy transferred into the plate I still don't know if it would go through but defiantly would have left a deep dent. Crazy cool I want to see a bigger Canons VS a WW1 or WW2 tank.

I would love to see a muzzle loading rifle vs soft body armor. Maybe even a clay block behind the armor to show transferred force.

Kinda wanna see one of these huge lead-slugs tear down a section of old brick-wall. Also, you guys are a Type 07 SOT, right? You could make an explosive round, a Destructive Device? Like a shaped charge? If you feel comfortable putting that kind of stuff together that is.

okay this even sounds odd to me and I thought it up but. I would shoot a Lego brick wall with the cannon, and I would be digging everything I could in that thing to shoot out, but first would be silverware then hot wheels misc assortment of grade 8 nuts and bolts. I likely would only stop when I ran out of powder. loved this video thanks for the fun.
