I have to disagree with this video: Arabia was very well known to Rome and Persia - Yemen had long been known for the incense Trade and the commodities that it produced Rome had even called Yemen, 'Arabia Felix' or Arabia the Happy and coveted it's wealth. The Romans did try to conquer it and they sent troops from Egypt and Syria, but they got lost in the Desert and perished. Persia actually DID conquer Yemen and it was part of the Persian Empire for decades, if not centuries. And Yemen and Ethiopia were part of the same kingdom at times. Only the Desert region, 'The Empty Quarter', which was mysterious and deadly, remained unconquered.

I do agree that Islamic history is really ignored. Even when you search for books you find books about modern Islam and the ISIS "caliphate" and all that stuff more than the actual good part of history.

So not exactly, but each teacher is going to be different so maybe. The most warning I'll give is that for my school we had to take a lot of notes from the book.

I'm not a Muslim. But I do love learning about World Religions. Usually, I find channels dedicated to teaching others the histories of Abrahamic religion, and Asiatic religions. Mecca sounds a lot like Vaes Dothrak, the holy city of the Dothraki from Game of Thrones. It was also made illegal to shed blood in the city punishable by death. Plus its also an important hot spot for trade and commerce as shown in the first book and the Dothraki had a tradition of importing statues of gods from foreign lands into the city. Seems like GRRM took inspiration from Mecca when creating Vaes Dothrak.

So glad to hear history like this from someone living in Pakistan, who knows Muslim traditions, and not from another American like myself. Therefore, after the work was done Jesus expected to return to His former position with God: Citation Jesus said: John 17:4-5 4“I have glorified You on earth by accomplishing the work You gave Me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed.” This is how Jesus was able to ask of the Father His glory which he had before, what He will not share with no other, yet Jesus is able to receive that place of glory because He had this same glory with God which is the same as the Father: Citation Jesus said: John 10:30 v30 “I and the Father are one.” Making Him equal with God, because God will not share His glory with another god, Jesus is not another but one with the Father…” The new testament Apostles then takes this ancient teaching of old, from God, given to the Prophets of old, including Isaiah from age 750's BC, and teaches the church. In turn, the church since the 1st century then teaches these exact teachings from God’s revelations of Himself, and of His work, and teaches the members of the church these things about God. thats because it was pretty true ( until arabia became the center of the islamic world + oil being discovered) , because apart from a few areas , arabia is a harsh environment where stable crops cant be grown. arabias biggest stength came from the fact that it was the only viable land route to east asia, and that it also had sea routes through the persian gulf and the red sea, but the poor local development meant that arabia was always a place of foreign influence until muhammad made it both a military power AND a huge religious center, (since it's said that every good muslim should visit the holy cities of meccas and medina once in their life)

I visited the remains of its ancient past and I can tell you it is very rich. First of all the climate of the Arabian Peninsula wasn't always as dry as today. The amazing rock art of Jubbah and Shuwaymis that are listed at UNESCO World Heritage testify of how life thrived there some 10,000 years ago. Then some oases became very rich as early as the 3rd millennium BCE thanks to the development of agriculture (yes!) and to their position along the ancient frankincense trade routes. Cities like Tayma, Dedan, Madyan, Najran,... were already developed urban centers at the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE. This wealth even attracted the surrounding empires that conquered vast part of Arabia (the Babylonians in 552 BCE, the Nabateans in the 1st century BCE, the Romans in 106 CE, and the Himyarites and Abyssinians in the 5th and 6th century CE). Those are well established historical facts that are confirmed by the archeological remains still visible today
@@florencioigual you seem to be mistaking trade with mineral wealth. The empires that conquered Arabia in the past did so for greater connection to the maritime spice routes. When the Mongols conquered central Asia, the land-based Silk Road became much more prevalent, thus making Arabia less profitable (still lots of trade though). Until the discovery of vast oil reserves, Arabia was not naturally rich enough to warrant invasion. The diaspora of tribes made it much more trouble than it was worth. Some empires like the Ottomans conquered the coasts for trade and for the holy sites but left the interior alone. As was stated earlier, the climate in interior Arabia was poor for agriculture, which is why the agricultural revolution happened in Mesopotamia and Egypt, not in Arabia. This isn't meant to hate on Arabia or anything. It's a beautiful place with its own unique cultural charm. I'm just clarifying the historical circumstances.
@@elmo8524 I'm not mistaking trade with mineral wealth. As surprising as it sounds the caravan trade did make some Arabian oases rich. Have you been to Petra? More than 600 monumental tombs, a large city with infrastructures, temples, a theater..., and the city was conquered by the Romans and the Byzantines. Is there any valuable resource in or around Petra? No. But the city was imposing 25% tax on all goods that were transiting here. And guess why Petra declined? Because the trade roads moved north at the benefit of Palmyra. If it surprises you here is some more information to understand the context. First of all there is the fact that not all the Arabian Peninsula is dry. Indeed, the south which is today Yemen and Oman benefit from the Indian Ocean monsoon hence have developed agriculture millenia ago (of course after the Levant). Secondly you have to take into account that incense and myrrh that are today used for comfort were during antiquity highly priced commodities. As an example the Roman priests used to spend fortunes to buy them for their rituals. As a result these commodities became more expensive than gold! (for the same weight). The Romans valued incense and myrrh so much that in 25 BC the praefect of Egypt, Aelius Galus, led an expedition until Mar'ib, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Sheeba (in today's Yemen). They reached the city but couldn't hold control of it so the military campaign was rather a failure. The Romans would have never spent so much effort in such a perilous expedition if it wouldn't be for seizing considerable wealth. Check online how rich and developed were the ancient kingdoms of Yemen and you'll realize they were much more developed than we think (Sheeba, Hadramawut, Qataban, Himyar,...). Last important point about which you are partially right: the maritime routes. One could claim that the ancient Yemeni kingdoms could have transported their goods through the sea, but this wasn't true for the Red Sea because of two difficulties: the coral reefs that spread all along the shores of the Red Sea, and more importantly the northern winds that prevented sailors to reach even today's Egypt territory. The Arabs were not good sailors so they preferred to carry their goods through the Arabian Peninsula, and by doing so they enriched the oases along the way. Even the spices coming from India were unloaded in Yemeni ports like Aden or Mukalla to be then carried by camels through the desert. Where you get right is that the Roman conquest of Egypt in 30 BC overwhelmed the trade roads because the Romans had more advanced sailing techniques and proved to be able to sail against the Red Sea wind. The geographer Strabo mentions that in the year 24 BC alone there were already 120 trading ships departing for India. From that time the inland routes became far less important but were still active. For your information I visited many ancient Arabian trade cities and I discuss this topic with the specialists who study this history on site so I'm pretty sure that what I'm describing here is close to the state of knowledge we have today about ancient trade in the Arabian Peninsula

Turk is not a race it is a title which means “ Mongolian plus another race.” The title Turk was created by the mongols themselves because they were racist and didn’t like their people to mix with other races so when they did they called their children “ Toki” which is an asian white bird with tall legs , a long beaks and a head which looks like vulture. But since Mongolians never went back to their country in time they all mixed with others and the name Toki evolved to Torki and Turk. Hence in 610 AD there were no such a thing as turkey or Turk. It has nothing with 610 AD to do. You can also see The Holy Roman Empire, Mamluk Sultanate and The Umayyad Caliphate in the intro. None of these were around in 610 AD.

I enjoyed the video a lot. Although I'd like to add a few details. Now, the Kabah in Makkah was built by Abraham and Ishmael, and pre-Islamic poems had nothing against this idea and attested to their Existence. therefore it may be logical to believe that the Kabah was built for the Abrahamic faith. And all of the Arabs of Arabia are said to have traveled to the Kabah to make pilgrimage even before Islam came around, even before it became a trading hub, and I'll get to that later. Now, the Jurhum era of Makkah has begun. even in pre-Islamic arabia, the Kabah was seen as a religious center and pilgrimages were made even from as South as Yemen. Now, the Jurhum era lasted a long time until eventually the other Arabs were unhappy with some policies such as Taxing the pilgrims and other stuff, so other tribes rebelled. One such tribe, the Banu Khuza'a, successfully expelled the Jurhum from Makkah and established themselves as the rules of Makkah. But before the Jurhum left they buried all their treasure and the Zamzam well, only for it to be lost, because if they couldn't have it neither could others. Thus began the Khuza'a era. The Banu Khuza'a was led by Amr ibn Luhayy. Amr was unhappy with the state of his people, and this unhappiness would only intensify as he went North to visit another civilization for a trading trip. I remember reading that these were Amlekites, others said this was Moab. Whoever it was, everything I read seems to say it was Modern-day Syria, prior to Romans conquering it. Amr saw them as a civilization, superior to whatever he had back home. He asked them about the secret to their success and they mentioned their idols. He then brought one idol home and placed it in the Kabah. Thus the Kabah became used for pagan practices. Now, centuries later, the Quraysh were a tribe wandering in the outskirts of Makkah. And they would have been, but a man named Qusayy was born. Qusayy married the chief of the Banu Khuza'a and proved to the people that he was more capable than the chief's own sons. Eventually he fought those sons and ended the Khuza'a era. Qusayy's Quraysh tribe entered and became in charge of Makkah. Qusayy had established Quraysh as a political power in Makkah and the Quraysh Era had begun. Now, Qusayy's grandson Hashim came to power and was unhappy at the state of his home. Recall that the well that turned Makkah into a city had been buried before the Khuza'a era. Everyone was starving. The only thing that made Makkah worth having was the religious significance of the Kabah. Hashim saw how his fellow tribesmen were starving despite people coming in from all over Arabia for Hajj pilgrimage and thought that they could trade. He then realized that in order to trade, they needed stuff to trade, so he decided to start 2 caravans a year. 1 in the winter, 1 in the Summer. 1 goes North to Bosra and trades for Roman goods and Persian goods. 1 goes South to Yemen and trades for Indian goods and African goods. Then when Hajj happens they trade with the fellow Arabs. Thus, the Rihlat Ash-shita Was-Sayf was founded, and Hashim became honored, the man who literally transformed Makkah from a town of starving people to a trading hub, literally raising Makkah's economic status. Now, Hashim had 3 brothers. Abd-ash-shams, Muttalib, and Nawfal. And while they were significant, their main significance, that of their descendents, comes later. But Hashim had a son who was more famous, who was known in legends and Poems. His son Abdul-Muttalib grew up to become so famous for many stories, but the story that comes to mind is that he rediscovered Zamzam. Abdul-Muttalib's real name was Shaybah. His mother was Salma bint Amr, from a town called Yathrib which eventually became Madinah. Now, it is said that Yathrib was originally founded by Jews and then populated by Qahtanite Arabs, both of whom are said to have migrated from Yemen. The 2 Qahtanite tribes were the Aws and the Khazraj. The Khazraj had Salma. Shaibah was raised til his teens in Yathrib. I once read that when she was expecting, she got the news of Hashim's death and moved back to Yathrib. I read somewhere else that she was in Yathrib the whole time. Whatever it was, Shaybah grew up in Yathrib til his uncle Muttalib found him and took him to Makkah where people confused him for a slave, hence the name "Abdul-Muttalib". Abdul-Muttalib grew up to have lots of prestige among all the Arabs. He had so many grandchildren, but one overshadowed the rest. While other grandchildren were called A grandson of Abdul-Muttalib, one particular grandson was called THE grandson of Abdul-Muttalib. And while he was famous for being his grandson, and many Arabs attached him to his grandfather, eventually he would outshine his grandfather as well: The Prophet Mohammed.

The thumbnail pic is misleading when it comes to the appearances of the people. One example is that most Arabs at the time were and still are brown and on the darker side when it comes to complexion.

amirullahable actually it isn’t a “wrong sourced” Hadith. Sunan al Tirmidhi, one of the six Hadith collections, state that the smallest reward for the people of heaven is an abode with 72 “houri”. That’s a virgin. This is not a “da’if” (weak) Hadith. It has sanad which is a chain of narrators which make it more reliable.

I'm very disappointed with this video. It's extremely shallow! you didn't even scratch the surface about the thriving, culture-rich Arabia. Some regions of the Hejaz and most of Yemen (which included today's Yemen, Oman, and south western Saudi) is one of the most fertile lands on earth! Arabia has gold mines and copper mines that some tribes mined. Yemen till this day is renowned for its gemstones, and scent-stones. Fishery, pearl craft, ship-craft were spread all over the 3 coasts of Arabia. Arabia is rich with natural resources other than oil in addition to a richness in wildlife that we can clearly read about in their ancient poems, from Ostriches to lions and Gazelles and more. Ancient empires didn't conquer it because they couldn't cross the desert, not because they weren't interested. We known many causes of Persians attempting to and failing. Across Yemen and Saudi we still find ancient inscriptions about Abyssinian conquests into Arabia. Arabs had alliances, complex, unique war strategies suiting their terrains. Social life was also very rich, their beliefs were complex with over 300 gods and goddesses. Morals had strict rules. Most of the greatest ancient literature came from Bedouins! Many of whom were The Noblest of tribes. We even know that these Bedouins were the definition of literacy in Arabia. They were the base for Speaking and Writing! Yes, ancient Arabs wrote and messaged a lot! They signed treaties and alliances among themselves in Arabic. The best poems were displayed on the best parchments and ink hung on the Kaaba! They had some religious rituals that must be done at night such as the worship of Suwa' or the star of Suhail (Canopus) that even after Islam Arabs didn't stop singing about it. Arabia was rich resourcefully, culturally, and naturally! Your video does a great injustice to ancient Arabia!
I keep seeing this argument in the comments. It was originally a thesis argued for by Patricia Crone and Michael Cook that is now largely dismissed by most historians of early Islam.
Petra was a metropolitan Nabatean Arab city, a big trade centre and it was smartly engineered. But that was few hundred years before Islam. I guess the video is acknowledging the time right before Islam, where Mecca in Hijaz was the centre of Arab trade at that time, and its important trade is mentioned in Quran in the few lines chapter of Quraish. The Nabatean Arabs are believed by Muslims to be perhaps mostly perished as a result of a punishment sent from God (by an excessively loud sound kind of punishment; in Arabic Saiha) and that was because of disbelieving their messengers. They actually have an attributed Sura/chapter in Quran (Al-Hejer) where God briefly describing how they build their houses with clear reflection to Petra and Madaen Saleh, how did they respond to the messengers, what happened to them, and that their richness didn’t help of sparing them from that very quick and massive punishment. Bty, another Jordan famous attraction “the Dead Sea” is also another location of punishment for a different time and for different people, where it is also largely believed by Muslims as a place of God’ punishment to the disbelievers of the message of Lot, the disbelievers were happened to be homosexual as well!! and that thier punishment (for the vast majority of the people of Lot who disbelieved) was that the land was ordered to be upside down by God!! And God rain down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. And that to make it a sign for believers (as indicated in Quran). As a result, the Dead Sea become the lowest land on Earth!!
Upon further examination, when conducting research for my book on the comparative rise and fall of civilizations, I recently reached a startling conclusion: the Islamic civilization actually predates Islam itself by a good couple of centuries. It did not begin with the founding of Islam, which, as a religion, was not so much a “new” religion as much as it was the natural evolution of Judeo-Christian-Abrahamic-Zoroastrian religious tradition as it was practiced in the Middle East during the period of Late Antiquity. Therefore, Muhammad was less of a Charles Martel or a Hammurabi, and more of a Martin Luther, with the the birth of Islam itself being more akin to the Protestant Reformation than anything else. As per my thesis in the part of my book on Middle Eastern society, Muhammad did not set out to create a brand new religion from scratch (as many modern Muslim scholars seem to profess), but was actually a “Christian” (in a broad, colloquial sense) who embarked on a mission to reform the Abrahamist faith that enjoyed an already long-established presence in Central Asia. Interestingly enough, there are also a number of passages in the Koran that appear to suggest just that (i.e. Muhammad’s immense knowledge of and pious adherence to the teachings of Christ, the existence of a pre-established & cohesive Abrahamic culture in the Middle East prior to the 6th Century, the supposition that Islam represents the gradual culmination of the Abrahmist ethos of “Submission before God”, the heavy influence that Persia played in shaping the culture of the Islamic World, etc.)

Dude lost me at 1:46 when he said it was Abraham that built the Kaaba. There’s no archeological or historical evidence to back up this claim, So many scholars believe Mecca isn’t that old as to compare it to the time of Abraham. This channel is biased and pro Islam

I thought you were going to talk about the Year Of The Elephant and how that event unified the tribes of Mecca against the Abbysian Christian's, who marched on Mecca in an attempt to destroy the Ka'bah in 570. It was quite a big event in pre-Islamic Meccan history and it took place in exactly the year the Prophet Muhammad (as) was born.
