@@GwenyLeny Maltese people are *very much* related to *Arabic* people, particularly Tunisian/Algerian/West Libyan with "some" Sicilian admixture. This dates back to when Malta was ceded to the Sultanate of Tunisia after the *Great Arab Conquest* of Sicily. The Sultan of Tunisia Hamid Al Bin Hassan gifted Malta to his daughter Aysha who fell in love with thus beautiful island which possess the very cute and now famous Maltese dogs which were/are unique to that Island. The Sultan sent a huge garrison of *Arab* and *Berber* soldiers and settlers to shore up the island. This would serve as a half way point between Tunisia and the newly conquered Emirate of Sicily. Military bases were built along with new palatial homes to accommodate the new *Arab* settlers and overlords Any resistance on the island of Malta from any locals was quickly and brutally crushed by the mighty *Arab* muslim settlers and conquerors. Mosques were built and all churches and cathedrals were bulldozed away into the sea. The Sultan's daughter, Aysha was given Malta as her domain and could rule over it as she pleases and have any slave she could from the island if she chose to live there. Many islanders commited suicide.

The Maltese language is derived from the Tunisian dialect and is the closest to it. As for the rest of the Levantine Arab dialects, its relationship to the Maltese language is only with Arabic roots.

Maltese *IS* a dialect of *ARABIC* closest to Tunisian dialect BUT heavily polluted with Italian. Its claim to fame is that it is written in an adapted latin alphabet.

Maltese as we know it today 'developed' from an Arabic dialect٫ which is not the same. It is a Semitic language later derived from Siculo Arabic in the Middle Ages٫ with eventual Latin influences (Italian٫ French٫ English) ... the hodgepodge due to long years of colonization. There is no 'a claim to fame'. Our language is a result of our history... no surprise there.

@@NatalieGOwens-kl8ij That's a pretty good surmise of the language but I still believe it is rooted in *Arabic* and as a result of that fact, I and many other Maltese who have not been totally brainwashed by the constant Zionist propaganda will agree with me that this language must remain relatively unpolluted and *pure* to its *Arabic* roots and origin. Thus a policy of linguistic reform most urgently needs to be implemented. These need to be wide ranging across the board policies which will be introduced by a governmental lead and funded body in the form of a linguistic board or institute.

@@sanchoodell6789 thank you for telling me about MY language. But all you need to do is know basic etymology of the language as it EVOLVED and you'll have the right answer. The old Maltese was something else and existed a long time before the Arabs. When the Arabs came, we were already speaking a language, and we had our own belief system. So, there is nothing to agree or disagree with because languages evolve. It's what they do. You think the Maltese should speak the language of a colonizer in its pure form, rather than create one of its own over time? Of course we were influenced by the colonizers though. Let's see now... All romance languages are rooted in Latin. Does that mean we should all be speaking Latin in a bunch of countries? Everything else you mentioned is completely off topic and you're grasping for straws. Zionist propaganda? Pfffft. Malta and its culture and language are WAY older than that. Way, way older. We have evidence and texts that are centuries old, civilizations that came and went BEFORE the Arabs, dating back millennia, so I don't know what in the world you're on about. What else do you believe should stay pure? Nothing in this world is static. Things change, including languages, and thank goodness for that.

@@NatalieGOwens-kl8ij Deep in your heart (like many other Maltese) you know that Maltese is an off shoot of the *ARABIC* language if not still a dialect of it. Sadly this Anti Arabic mentality is firmly entrenched in many a Maltese mindset but you need to resist it and flush it out. Coming back to this, Even all the numbers are *exactly* the same as *ARABIC* Dr Martin Zammit of the University of Malta reads one of the earliest Maltese poems which IS IN FACT PURE *ARABIC* with no or hardly any Italian pollution contained within it. This alone concludes without doubt that the origins of Maltese lies firmly in *ARABIC* It's based on *ARABIC* It's derived from *ARABIC* These are all *UNDENIABLE FACTS* in language and history A child of the *ARAB* World. Before the arrival and civilising influences of the *Arabs* in Malta. Malta had no known language. Malta had no culture or history. This period was sometimes known as *"The Maltese Dark Age"* or the *"Period of Silence"* There are no known written records or other evidence of a spoken language being used on the island before the arrival of the *Arabs* The inhabitants, it is believe by historians and archaeologists, may have communicated with sign language or from burping or farting but their history most likely truly starts in the era of *Islam* and the *ARABS* I firmly believe that the Maltese are an *"Adopted Arab People"* i.e. A people of racially/ethnically *Arab* origin but have been adopted by a European (Italian/Sicilian) culture.
