Poor Lady? I see absolutely nothing poor about this woman, although coming into this video fresh I would not dare insert myself into the era in which this happened. As we were not alive to experience the political turmoil of the era. Whether or not she deserved to be executed for trying to what appears to be overthrowing the sitting government at the time. She accepted the consequences fully and with great dignity. Considering the time. There were a lot more brutal methods of execution available. The system in which she died under indeed was corrupt, but I don't see anything poor about her she had a lot more strength than people might give her based on a movie's interpretation.
I don't know why, but I am very interested in the history of Spain, Portugal and the colonization of South America by these two countries(even though I'm despise colonialism and racism as such), maybe because of my Asperger Syndrome, I am attracted to the Iberian culture :-) How did Marian Pineda deserve her fate that she was sentenced to death in such a way? Why do the Spaniards admire her today?
@@PawelK198604 We must be twins, my friend, since I too have Asperger's syndrome. Mariana Pineda was an outspoken person who supported democratic reforms and social justice issues, along with that of her late husband, who was also a Freemason. Both read various writings of Simon Bolivar, American Federalist Papers by Thomas Payne, Jefferson, Franklin, etc on his treatises on liberty and equality and tried their best to introduce such practices in Spain. After her husband died, Mariana continued to carry on his work and shared her views with like-minded people, dissolving the feudal caste system, granting women's rights (including the right to vote, run for public office), Gypsy and Basque recognition, religious freedom among the Jewish and Moorish communities under democratic rule. The ruling monarchy viewed such ideals as radical nationalism and therefore a threat to the status quo. The old school conservatives feared the likes of Pineda's ideology would cause social dissent and unrest, resulting in the destruction of the monarchy in almost the same way as it did in France and put the Church and its governing representatives at risk during their revolution and Reign of Terror 1789-1799. They didn't want a repetitive bloody coup d'etat of that sort done in their country. Pineda was well aware of the consequences of her words and actions and was willing to give her life to such a cause if need be. She was a marked woman for speaking her mind in a time when women were deemed as mere chattel by being meek and obedient to their husbands, parents, etc Some might have called her callous and a traitor because of this, but Spain's views have changed in such a way people like Mariana would be proud of and yet like other newly independent countries, still have a long ways to go, however. I hope this helps answer your question...If you wish to chat further, you can also send me an email printangel@aol.com
She is young and beautiful. Must be terrifying walking up to the garrote, knowing that in just a minute you will take your last breaths on this world. She was very composed and handled it very well I thought.
What a lot of faffing about, and what a lot of psychological torture for the condemned. A skilled execution in Britain took less than 20 seconds, in skilled hands. 7 was the record.
matismf there's no justification for such an awful method of execution and Franco was a fascist who overthrew the legally elected government. So he's hardly the good guy.
She killed no one. She was found guilty of a liberalism conspiracy which, notably, included the rights of women. She refused to disavow her beliefs and got strangled for it. Dangerous for women to have equality or liberated notions back in 1831.
She didn't kill anyone, but was involved in helping a liberal prisoner escape. She was offered a chance to live by snitching on her cohorts, but refused to do it.
Basically snaps your neck and crushes the windpipe. A bit like hanging except you sometime strangle to death if your neck doesn't snap when you first drop.
The Garotte, an inhumane way of killing someone, it wasn't as quick, and clean as this film shows, it slowly compressed the neck, slowly crushing the throat and neck of the condemned , who met a hideous demise.
It is hypocrasy, since the church always sided with the absolutist rulers. They protected each other and innocent people seeking freedom paid the price
I dont either. She was executed for political treason and conspiracy. The monarchy's of Europe did not tolerate other liberal opinions, and that is why the 1848 revolutions were also put down. It is Spain very conservative and the inquisition was still active until 1834.
sedition and to take part in a liberal conspiracy. widow and mother of two youngsters, she had been delacted for having just embroided the words law, freedom and equality on a flag and accused of taking part into a liberal conspiracy... since she had refused to denounce any supposed accomplice she was put to death
It was the priests who addicted the whole of China to opium ... It was the priests who dropped the two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki ... The priests are the owners of the world drug business ... The priests promote Woodstock gang bang worldwide ... They are the "idols" of young people who follow them devotedly in the service of God ... In fact, the convents are full of young people eager for sacred music, modesty, virtues and prayers ... The priests run the arms industries, all revolutionary movements and terrorist organizations ...
