We have a triton but we don't have a canopy on the back will the tent weight with 2 people inside not break the roof of th car? Also is the tent placed just on th roof racks?

Entry bar is telescopic and has a wing nut on each side, just unsrew and push out. (arb). Same as the inside bar for the roof

I bought mine already, I am waiting for it to arrive, I own a Nissan frontier diesel 4x4, the way I want to try the set up, is the latter to the back of the truck bed, and with the extra walls they sell for the roof top tent make another room on the truck bed,

No sorry, haven't got that set up anymore. Roof racks were about 800mm apart.

In that ute we had a set of aluminium rails rivited to the roof and the then bolt the roof racks to that. I think they were 80 to 100 kg rated.

Ben B That's the pain, You can't drive around when the tents out. on top of a trailer would be good, but then you have a trailer to deal with in tight and rough spots.

Rhino-rack. The square type, they whistle a bit. I would buy flat aerodynamic racks next. we had aerodynamic racks on the last vehicle and they didn't whistle at all.

+lucernstring1 Wrap 3mm bungee around your bars like a candy cane. When you interrupt the flow around the bar, it will quit being a whistle.

How does it stay firm in place when you climb it?

the ladder grips onto any ground surface, we had to drill an extra few holes into the ladder to make the extension increments a bit smaller.

FluffMuncher Up off the ground away from snakes and other animals that can attack you. Less likely to get run over by vehicles etc... I like normal tents aswell in the right environment. Can get cold and hot in any tent. Set up on a high covered in trailer would be good, so u can store all the camping gear inside the dust/water proof trailer plus you could leave it at the camp while you go and tour around looking at the scenery or event. It's a bit of a pain if you are in one place for a few days and you have to pack it up everytime you want to drive away and go exploring..

FluffMuncher Tent is warm up there, no problems with mine so far (I don't have this exact unit, mine s a chinese built version that is 1.85M wide - no adjustment on the tensioning struts, once it is fully opened it is tensioned and erected so saves a little time there.) These tents are fast to erect and fast to pack up. Recent camp trip with some mates I was having a beer watching them put their tents up. you get used to everything and you kind of get an order in which to complete things. I'd say my tent without the annex takes approx 6 minutes to erect. if you add the annex it would push out another 5 minutes. Personally I agree with Lucernstring on the trailer, makes life easier when you want to go for a drive if you have a trailer, plus you can carry more gear!. this was a good vid, very in depth. One thing i will add is to use bungee cord for each of the rings located on the inside of the tent. make sure they don't have too much tension but enough. as you fold the tent back over to pack up it pulls the sides in neatly folding them between each tensioning strut. makes pack up a lot faster and smoother.
