great review. I like your mounting position, makes a lot of sense and I haven't seen to many people do it that way. I have a 100 series cruiser so it's good to see how it all works with the cruisers rear doors.

Well i'll be dammed..... One of them US boys just told us Aussie's how its done! Well Done sir, i'm impressed! I've seen many set ups, many RTT's, many Camp sites, but what you presented was brilliant. I will say this though, in Australia we use these products for Desert Crossings where taking a Camping Trailer is not advised. The idea of rain is almost a non event, but if and when it does, it will be 3 days of it and you're not going anywhere until the tracks become drive able again.

Great review. I must have watched it a few times now. I'm in the market for a RTT. I was wondering after having the Simpson for a couple of years now how is the coating holding up? Any peeling are delamination? From what I could find out the Simpson is waterproof coated, not impregnated like some more expensive brands. Thanks.

We bought one of these largely due to this well produced video. Unfortunately we had a series of rather serious serious QC issues with the installation of the tent, which have left us rather disappointed and troubled. 1. after installing the mounting rails to the bottom of the tent we had two of the self tapping sheet metal screws back out and then lift each rail bout an inch off the edge while the bolt held the center snug. After applying even more pressure on the drill, the screw finally went in but the head sheared off the cheap screw, and the entire effort proved damaging and ineffective. Result is that each rail is only held at one end by a set screw, and both are slightly bent at the other end. As a workaround I drilled two new self tapping screws through the wider channel but now have to slide the mounting brackets in from the far side. 2. when attempting to install the spring rods, we came upon a hole that was not drilled properly. There was only a dimple there, not a hole. I tried drilling the hole at a 45 degree angle, but the rod will not seat properly now. 3. the fabric of the bed mat is torn where it was pinched in the crease of the tent base once unfolded. These issues could have been avoided with basic inspection and care at the factory, instead of being shipped from China to Seattle to Vermont for our disappointment. We have not even used the tent yet, and have not heard back from ARB USA yet.

Hey thank you for the great review first and foremost. I now realize that I need this in my life. I just have a few questions if you get around to them: 1. How easy is this thing to pack up? Initial setup looks like a breeze I just am struggling to find video evidence of packing this thing back in its cover. 2. On a multi day camp/hiking trip where you are leaving your rig for a full day of adventures and then returning, how would you secure your stuff in a crowded area? (If it is as easy to fold up as it is to set up I would gather you could just pack it up after each night) Overall this was a spectacular review and I really believe that a rooftop tent would be a great solution for a shelter while still maintaining all of the usability of your rig. I have been bouncing back and forth between a truck camper or a little trailer or a van or countless other options but now I realize that for me a rear mounted ARB Simpson iii rooftop tent with an awning would go perfect on an old truck with a topper and then you'd have access to the full truck box and at the same time still keep all of the "truck stuff" in your rig without hauling around this big bulky truck camper. Back again. Just a passing thought, hope the lanyard on the zipper works for you. I had problems with the zipper catching onto the tent material thus playing hell trying to untangle the zipper. Ah! That's what the straps are for!!!! Thanks again! Best of luck.

Excellent review, very professional. Big drawback in my opinion to this arb is the annex has no floor, so really water can easily get in as well as bugs/rodents etc. Most other roof top tents now come with an annex floor for obvious reasons

excellent, by far the best review/demo of the arb roof top tent.

Just purchased an ARB RTT , very pleased with it but having great difficulty In getting the thick cover over all 4 corners, it seems like it needs to stretch more to get over all the corners. Would it be easier if I took the cover completely off, not hanging by the seam on one side, coming straight down from the top on all 4 corners? Thanks, Bob

I mounted my cvt to open to the back like yours. This way when I put on the annex room on, it is connected to the back of my truck and canopy.

Nice Video on the ARB RTT LQ. I also made a series for my RU-vid channel on this tent. Mounted off the side; good to know the air dam/wing on the rear door will clear it when opened off the back. Keep up the good work! Clay

Stellar review. I'm going to travel the U.S. this summer, and considering picking up an SUV and a roof top tent.. Would you feel comfortable using this for a 2+ week excursion? Does dew buildup on the inside? What if it's pouring rain when you take it down, and want to use it the following night?

A foxwing awning is another way, then you can have your RRT loading off the side and still keep full access without that ladder in the way of your rear split tailgate. You can still fit the lower tent and then enjoy 270 degrees of dry and or shaded verander around your 4WD

great tent review... very well made ... have the same tent and have a love - hate relationship with it.. very tough getting in..6'4" and the zipper bit the dust sort of speak, and the fly with an average wind will keep you up all night flapping...and the mattress not well liked by any one who prefers a softer bed..

You could sell ice to an Eskimo ! That's one of the best reviews I've ever heard on u tube.

A question: We're planning to spend a good amount of time camping in the heat of summer. It looks like you and your wife have a great set up for cooler conditions, but have you used this particular tent in much warmer weather? If so, how's the ventilation? We've read reviews about some RTTs turning into ovens in the summer heat. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Thank you for the great review ....the best out there. For my rig a fj Cruiser with a Baja Rack, I want to open it from the rear also. I noticed that your tent overhangs the rear cross member. How much can it overhang? The Baja Rack stops about a foot from the fj rear door opening. Thanks again for your time.

Setting the ladder off the back is perfect for your clam-shell tailgate on the Landcruiser. I don't think it would work with the 4Runner one piece lift gate. Guess I will have to look for an 80 series as well. Thanks for the great review!
