Most recording equipment, today, has compression built into it. Which means the recording equipment tends to flatten all dynamics to one level. I am pretty sure that is the case in this recording.
Score was originally for cornet. Interesting when played on euphonium but still not as good a pairing with piano accompaniment due to similar note ranges. Unfortunately, the pianist was not as accomplished as the horn player, making several mistakes.
Euph works well the the concert band arrangement of the accompaniment. I know. I played tuba in a concert band where Roger Oyster was the soloist, back in the 80's.
