Plastic leaching chambers have become the preferred choice for leachfield applications over conventional pipe and gravel systems. Their lightweight construction means lower installed costs and less intrusive installations. In this video, Advanced Drainage Systems will show you how to install Arc Leachfield Chambers.

More current and modern leach field systems, do not allow for biomat to clog up the system completely. It looks like this one completely allows full biomat to form all along the bottom and then it will stop and clog. And it looks like tree roots could absolutely easily get into this from the bottom as well. Please correct me if I'm wrong on these assumptions!! Would have been nice if somebody would have done some talking and explaining about these instead of just posting the video of music ha ha

It's just open airspace under the arch? You don't fill in under the arch with gravel or crushed stone for support? Is this allowed in northern climates like Maine?

I had 100 feet of this system installed in 2014 apparently it’s already full because the tank had to be pumped in 2020 and again this year. The people that installed it said the soil is saturated and I need a new system.

Seems too shallow for a thin plastic arch. Likely not acceptable universally.

I was thinking they might include internal perforated piping system that interconnects them together so once in use the entire field will "equally distribute" effluent to entire field instead of just dribbling into where the PVC pipes goes into the infiltrator. Correct me if this is part of the design? I had to engineer a complicated system 25 years ago due to poor soils and space limitations and engineer included a pump system to dose the system with about 150 gal of effluent when the 2nd 100 gal tank got to certain level. He engineered 1" PVC to hang from infiltrators with certain size and number of holes drilled so when pump went on, the 150 gal of effluent would fill the pipes and entire system gets equally wetted. The advantage is the leach field gets to dry out between the pumping cycles so it helps mitigate the growth of "biomat" which is reason most fields fail as the biomat plugs up the field and it backs into home or finds a way to surface out of field. It seems like the infiltrators might have this kind of system designed into them by now so entire field can be used, but maybe it is too complicated with varying soils and uses??

Yes, the ARC chambers can be used on sloped land - typically the maximum is 20-25% depending on your local regulations.

Those open fins will just let the dirt over time seep in. Also just having these sitting on top of the soil, ie not gravel, will not allow the water to seep into the ground any faster. If anything it will case the soil to become over saturated. With a traditional pipes in gravel set up, it allows the water to slowly seep through the gravel and then to the soil. I can't see these systems working that great and if they do work it won't be in any areas where the soil is dense like clay. Remember the marketers of these products will tell you anything for you to buy it. The use words like scientific and engineering to make themselves sound like they know what they are talking about. Stick with the traditional tried and tested methods.

These are awesome because tree roots can't stop them up. It actually helps to pull water out. No gravel and you can drive over the field without compacting the trenches
@jamesfoote2022
@jamesfoote2022 5 лет назад
you CANT drive over these what the hell are you talking about, it will cave them in and you will have an expensive repair on your hands. I just talked to the septic leach field installer today, I was pissed because he is placing it behind the garage in the only flat spot on our property and said "Absolutely no driving over them as you will crush them". Looking at the arches they are made with flimsy plastic, which if they were say a 1/4 or so then yea you likely could drive over them, but these at like 1/16 thick or so.
@tileman30years6
@tileman30years6 4 года назад
@@jamesfoote2022 I don't know what you're were made of but ours were really thick. I'm not talking make a driveway out if it but I was saying I can drive the tractor over the leach field to mow and not having to worry about compacting the trenches like a regular leach field with gravel. I could stand on top of the ones we had put it and not bend them once they are two feet down in the ground they are even stronger.

Use of chambers in Massachusetts allows for a 40 percent reduction in system size. I think it is unwarranted. The chamber design, while it has a number of benefits, doesn't in my opinion allow the system to "breathe", resulting in the growth of anaerobic bacteria, and possibly eventual failure of system.
@Courageous_Lion
@Courageous_Lion 3 года назад
The leech field should be only getting water into it with a bit of small waste. The TANK is where the bacteria is supposed to take care of the solids. My gravel and pipe system lasted 17 years. I can see that this system would last 2 or 3 times or maybe "forever". Says the 20+ year PLUMBER.
