Arc of Attrition Recce 2 - Lands End to Pendeen

My friend Jenny and I hiked Lands End to St Ives with a stopover in Pendeen to familiarise ourselves with the Arc of Attrition 100-mile ultra-marathon route. This video is of the first section to Pendeen and the Pendeen to St Ives video will be up shortly. We used the MudCrew GPX file for the 100-mile route to help us. This is not an official guide so you always need to check the official guidance on the race organiser's website. Hopefully, it will give you an idea of the route and terrain and you can learn from our mistakes. Oh, and apologies for the wind noise!

This section you found you way well. 26:36 is worth noting. You went the correct way but lots of people go wrong at this point. The sign at 26:43 is about 10m away but people miss it as it is rather hidden. If you find yourself going over a stone wall here then you have gone the wrong way.

Brilliant, thanks Colin, it's really helpful to complement this with some proper knowledge of the course. It's often no until you get it wrong that you really learn it and I've already taken it for granted that I found the way the first time around. The second time I did this I dithered a lot more!!

What a great video! I’ve walked (and even ran) most of that route several times in the last 50 years (we have a house in Sennen). I’m too old now but I remembered it all. It’s a shame that this part of the race will be during the night….such lovely scenery. Best of luck on The Arc 👍🍷.

Loved it again Elena. I rarely watch videos that long all the way through. I would have been daft enough to join you upstairs on the open topped bus. There is zero chance I would have navigated that route, thank goodness I am too old to do runs like that. Good to have Angus and Jenny to accompany you. Fancy bothering about coordinated kit! (Dare not make sexist comment here!) You both deserved those crisps. On to Recce 3.

@@elenaoutdoors After a fast, sweaty, 20 mile hike of the SWCP i jumped onto an opentop bus to get back to my car. 10 minutes in, once i'd cooled down, i realised my mistake. I'll sit downstairs next time unless i've got a jacket 😊

Another great video. Im not doing the Arc but i am walking the coast path in the warmer months so its nice to see some of the parts i've got to come. I'm curious what tent and sleeping bag Jenny had in her Montane Trailblazer 35 and you in your compact little OMM 25?

I’ll check in with Jenny about her kit but I used the sea to summit flame II sleeping bag, thermarest neo air mat and a llanshan pro 2 tent. Plenty of room in my OMM 25 for that and a small stove. Will do a kit video! 😊

We met no wives with cats in sacks along the way 😂Come January I won't know whether I'll be coming or going or whether I came or went. I'm sure thinking about it will keep me suitably occupied through this section of the race 😊
