Bowie fue uno de los mejores músicos modernos, más grandiosos que han existido en la tierra. Junto con Juan Sebastian Bach. El alemán. Que fue barroco.
When I first heard this song I thought it was repetitive and way too long. But the more I listened, the more I realized that it was an absolute masterpiece. It rises, it falls, it changes, it transforms. It gets quiet and it gets loud, and if you put headphones on you can hear every little sound and vocal that just add to this incredible experience. I'm so glad I caught on to it. Such an addicting and wonderful experience of a song.
Do people actually understand and comprehend the fact that David Bowie literally one of the greatest music stars of our time was so humble enough to sing a few lines on this track with no credit just because he liked the track! The world is a poorer place without people like that.
I love the fact that Bowie was involved in this. Apprently he was at the studio when they were recording it and he said "If you don't release this, I will"
did you hear the story about it? AF recording and bowie's recording his, he pops in and AF ask what he thought (I think if I'm right in remembering Af were unsure if they wanted to use it) and bowie says use it. because if you don't I want it. so AF said join in on vocals. One of my favourite bowie stories.
The ending from 4:50 with Bowie's vocals + the piano are so damn rousing and giving me so much goosebumps, I wanna jump on my office desk and throw away my computer dancing and shouting! (like Claire in an episode of Six Feet Under)
The song, the rythm, the story, the lyrics, the double language, the video clip and David Bowies voice... its just beyond perfect, this song is orgasmic!!!
I can't always get the hate from people towards this whole album. This album is the definition of what one of the best bands in world should do - pioneering, experimenting and innovating! The infusion of 70s,80s disco, electronica, dance punk (yah! when you know James Murphy was on the main producers list), twisted synthesizing and also the core of Arcade Fire themselves together with their long-standing interpretations of aesthetics, life and death. This was one of their best works, in fact, all 4 LPs were equally brilliant to me.
Their first four albums were all masterpieces in their own way. Its why I was so disappointed with "Everything Now". Hope they can get back to basics on the next one
Speaking about Janes Murphy, this is the most LCD SOUNDSYSTEMESQUE song I've ever heard by a band that wasn't LCD SOUNDSYSTEM and I mean it as a compliment
@@george1991ish Totally agree! Initially it felt like such a major disappointment after Reflektor, but after seeing them perform it live, I was suddenly converted.
@@stephaniedominguez-q6f Hello. Good afternoon. My name is Brian López. So, what is your favorite The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy episode? Please let me know in the comments down below.
Josie P. This song was groovy as hell and really socially conscious deep down to its core. It’s like about some Shakespearean or Greek mythological stories that are some prophetic truth written in stone somewhere, the laws of love and the universe and technology and religion, it’s all related really interesting actually
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest songs of all time. The layering and build-up is incredible. It is also surprising; when you believe it has finished or is carrying a traditional style, it automatically flips the tables and becomes new. Incredible :)
It is a very well done song, the structure, the production, reflektor really isn’t a bad album at all I think people just don’t like the change in style and their attempts to dull down their musics intent to a more commercially radio friendly pop audience. It is understandable that this would polarize fans, a lot who were more into their first 3 more indie rock albums but The Suburbs really made the band blow up and start to change, that’s what happens in the music industry
Good analysis. I absolutely think it's one of the greatest songs of all time. When it hits the breakdown (the shot where they're crawling on the ground) I get chills every time.
That piano riff at 5:28 has been my soul since I discovered this song in my teens. 🤪🤪♥️ Love you Reflektor. The experience you give is unique, haunting and exhilarating. Rock on Arcade Fire 🔥🔥 🔥🔥 🔥
Still my favorite song ever. I remember the first time I heard it on the radio I nearly crashed the car I got so into it. Especially the way the song changes. Spine-tingling stuff.
Hahaha I am so glad I am not alone! Wow where do you live that actual good music was on the radio?! We have 88.5 wmnf here in florida. Local radio. So good music plays on there... But I almost crash I think every time its on I move and dance and I JUST CAN'T HELP IT !!!! LOL
About Bowie participation, from Wikipedia: Richard Reed Parry noted, "It was just after The Next Day had come out. He basically just came by the studio in New York while we were mixing, just to have a listen to the stuff we were doing. He offered to lend us his services because he really liked the song. In fact, he basically threatened us - he was like, 'If you don't hurry up and mix this song, I might just steal it from you!' So we thought, well why don't we go one better, why don't you sing on our version? Thankfully he obliged, and we were really happy about that."
That quote makes it sound like the band weren't fans, didn't want him on, sad, thang is son, Bowie was dying of cancer, was on his mind, he would've featured his voice for free on any poppy piece of crap just to be nice and leave more of himself in this world, could be wrong, but hell, if Bowie asked to be on my song I'd have him sing more than 1 super short line more than 2 times. But hopefully the quote is just the dude bragging, meaning he is a fan.
John Razimus Why on earth would you interpret a quote like that so cynically. Like holy shit obviously its a joke, anyone with a dayjob of music is going to be honoured to feature david bowie in their music but you have to understand its mutual respect and David was probably honoured to have a part in it.
John Razimus could you back up your reasoning for that please? Because it looks like to me that you just can't come up with an actual argument so just took to hurling unfounded insults. LOL
I’ve only just heard this song in 2022. This is an amazing ride and one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. It truly is a masterpiece. Just incredible.
I feel you. I've listened to Arcade Fire before but never really caught up on them. Now it's the thing I listen to pretty much everyday. Now I can't wait to see them in September !
@@ignitneroc9803 Me too! 🎉 I’m late to the party. Going to see them for the first time in December in Toronto 🎉 - I’m 65 but I still enjoy techno like when I was much younger listening to Depeche Mode - the Pet Shop Boys and all the earlier electronic sounds - New Order etc - going to see Depeche Mode when they hit Toronto in April 23
I first recall hearing Reflektor circa 2015. I've always thought it was a great song. For those who enjoy this, I highly recommend albums like Reach the Beach by The Fixx and Sons and Fascination by Simple Minds.
Arcade Fire seems to be one of the few modern bands David Bowie 'adopted' and reflected his ideals/artistry. I sincerely think that if he were to live on in anyone's music outside of his own, it would be Arcade Fire's. He loved them so much and they lost a mentor today. Prayers for them and, of course, for David's family.
I always noticed Bowie was particularly vocal in which bands he liked; Pixies, Placebo, NIN, AF, countless bands, the drum and base scene he even liked Secret Machines. His band - name evapes me - from his final ablum was approached after he saw them play.
To me this is their Stairway to heaven (in a positive way). One of those longer songs by a great band that seems like it's only a couple minutes long when you listen to it. Great band.
***** Go back to your classic rock videos. Once again someone who isn't able to take his or her time to understand a simple comment. I never said this is a great song (even though I DO believe that) but that it's one of those very long songs that is more fun to listen to than most 3-4 minute long songs.
***** Yes, but I can't listen to those (except for a few Pink Floyd songs like Dogs, Echoes and Shine on you crazy Diamond). 7 minutes is long enough for an indie rock band.
I remember them doing this on SNL with the Reflektor box & Tina Fey being SO excited to announce they were going to stick around and play a whole set. SO JEALOUS! Such artistry.
When this album came out, it completely, totally, wholeheartedly dominated my entire existence for a solid year. I was utterly obsessed with this album. An audio timestamp, a marker of my life in 2013.
You nailed it. Time stamps is what AF albums were. I have so much good memories even boring ones that wrap around the albums and discovery sequence that pushes me to feel then and way back then and it freaking hurts those years are far far back and I got no soul to consume on the last two albums so far. EN pre release holds a memory and It's my fault I think. I designed that album including title amd guest musician. That's y infinite content is like ehhh.....magical rocket engines hanging down and mask worn way pre 19 that's that I am stayed out of all the other albums hahaha ahhhhh
David Bowie's voice mixes so perfectly with Win's voice, it gave me chills! :D And you know you're going to have an awesome video when is directed by Anton Corbijn. Is a full circle really, they felt inspired by Depeche Mode on the making on this album
+Sochilinda More than that, this *SOUNDS* like something Bowie might have written. So much so, that when Bowie heard the song he told them "You had better record this or I will." So they asked him to sing on it. And the rest, as they say, is history.
+Gayle L this is the kind of songs that are suppose to be performed live. When I first saw this video I also felt it was long, but after seeing them performing live it really makes sense. They are really awesome!
I'm so glad to see a comment referencing Depeche Mode. Actually this entire music video makes me think they got some type of inspiration through "Never Let Me Down Again".
I've been to many concerts, but theirs was so fun! It was the Reflektor tour, it was a total party and there was a dress code telling you to dress up on the ticket which made it even better and honestly people got into it and it completely changed the atmosphere. Hope to see them again on tour soon!
I can't get over how good this song is. Such a masterpiece of good rhythm composition. Everything. And it's just a reflector. Imagine the original of the original
I cant stop listening to this song! There is just so much going on. The range of emotions and thoughts it provokes is just astounding! This is a great band, and I am happy they do what they do. This song is a masterpiece. Keep it up!
Wow I was born in 2014 and Im 1 years old now and I'm obsessed with the late 2013 music. I really can't stand my generation. Music like this make me wish I was born in 2013 so I could have enjoyed my years in 2013's bc it was such an amazing time. The fashion, the love, the music... It was a simpler time. A great time to live. My friends all listen to Nicki Minaj and 1D and I dont understand it. This is real music
This song has one of the most perfect progressions of music. There are songs you hear and you think, they should have taken this farther...not this song. This song moves through each stanza into the final climax of sound. It is so perfect I can’t help close my eyes and I cannot seem to ever watch the video. God knows I have tried. It is just too good not to close my eyes and listen to every chord.
Trapped in a prism, in a prism of light Alone in the darkness, darkness of white We fell in love, alone on a stage In the reflective age Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore Entre les royaumes, des vivants et des morts If this is heaven I don't know what it's for If I can't find you there I don't care I thought, I found a way to enter It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) I thought, I found the connector It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) Now, the signals we send, are deflected again We're still connected, but are we even friends? We fell in love when I was nineteen And I was staring at a screen Entre la nuit, la nuit et l'aurore Entre les voyants, les vivants et les morts If this is heaven I need something more Just a place to be alone 'Cause you're my home I thought, I found a way to enter It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) I thought, I found the connector It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) Just a reflektor It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) reflektor (Just a reflektor) (Just a reflektor) just a reflektor (Just a reflektor) just a reflektor (reflektor) (Just a reflektor) (Just a reflektor) (Just a reflektor, just a reflektor) (Just a reflektor, just a reflektor) Just a reflection, of a reflection Of a reflection, of a reflection, of a reflection Will I see you on the other side? (Just a reflektor) We all got things to hide (Just a reflektor) It's just a reflection of a reflection Of a reflection, of a reflection, of a reflection Will I see you on the other side? (Just a reflektor) We all got things to hide (Just a reflektor) Alright, let's go back Our song escapes, on little silver discs Our love is plastic, we'll break it to bits I want to break free, but will they break me? Down, down, down, don't mess around I thought, I found a way to enter It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) I thought, I found the connector It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) It's just a reflektor It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) Thought you would bring me to the resurrector Turns out it was just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) Thought you would bring to me the resurrector Turns out it was just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) Thought you would bring to me the resurrector Turns out you were just a reflektor It's just a reflektor (It's just a reflektor) (It's just a reflektor) Just a reflektor Just a reflektor Just a reflektor Just a reflektor Will I see you on the other side? It's just a reflektor Will I see you on the other side? (reflektor) We all got things to hide (reflektor) Just a reflektor Will I see you on the other side? Traducir al español
It's incredibly ironic to see people say "These guys don't make music that relates to ME, so fuck em." and then accuse the band of being shallow and egotistical...
it seems the cats in arcade fire never run out of creative ideas. they actually kind of took a bit of an electronic almost talking heads-esque new wave turn on this one. I think what makes this song/video brilliant is that its constantly building, building, creating more and more tension, building but never really quite gets resolved and I admire that they dont ever really spell out a meaning or explain anything in any way. modern day abstract art in music and video done effortlessly
I don't get why people are listening to it if they don't like it. Arcade Fire is one of the few bands that gives me goosebumps, mostly because their music is art, not only a business.
Hello. Good afternoon. My name is Brian López. What is your favorite The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy episode? Please let me know in the comments down below.
I swear Reflektor has to be one of the best albums ever, and for me that puts it right up with Darkside of the Moon, Disintegration, Songs of Faith and Devotion, and a few others. Just my honest opinion. I first heard it on KNRK 94.7fm in Portland, Oregon. Gustav, one of the greatest radio DJs EVAR played the who thing for us, and I was 100% captivated. Bravo, Arcade Fire.
one of my favorite bands, i heard them at a club in LA and loved them since then. another guy I'm digging is Kaleb Hanly "Morning Light", he reminds me of arcade a bit.
i believe that if more people were to listen to arcade fire ; the world would be a far better place! their work is like Plato and Socrates hit everything that encompasses the evolution music . true poetry ,philosophy , art and most importantly positive energy : that flows through us all .
WHY THE FUCK DO I SEE SO MANY NEGATIVE COMMENTS AT THE TOP?!!! I'm sorry that Arcade Fire's brilliance is too much for some of you to handle, but this is currently the best band in the world right now, sorry about it. Is Google+ just manipulating the comments to make it look like all of them are negative? What the fuck?
It's because of the inherent flaw in RU-vid's new comment system. Because it's "discussion based" it puts comments with many replies near the top. If I post "Arcade Fire's awesome!" then it probably won't get any replies because there's nothing to add. If I post "Arcade Fire is the worst thing since Hitler!" then I'll get fifty people telling me why I'm wrong and my comment will stay at the top.
Tyler Randolph Actually the reason you are seeing so many shitty comments on top is because of poor youtube algorithm.. Instead of highest rated comments, RU-vid bumps up highest replied comments now.. Since shitty comments get the most number of offended people replying.. They land on top, on every fucking youtube video.. So now they get even more attention and replies.. It totally sucks.
El Gran David Bowie los definió cómo " la mejor banda del mundo". No estaba errado. Éste tema es sólo una muestra. Saludos desde Bariloche, Patagonia Argentina.
Most of our lives we look outside for the love that was always inside us, once we feel that love inside, there is no other way but to project it onto others. We are all love that was hiding in a dark place looking for a candle to give us that strength to open up the door to infinite connection to everything that is around us.❤
I'm writing this during quarantine 2020. I first heard this song when I was 14 (in 2016), now I'm almost 18 and I can surely say that this song is one of the best songs of my entire life. It means a lot to me. For four years I have not stopped listening to this song and with every listening, in every life situation, I find something close to my soul. Love Arcade Fire with all my heart. I send everyone virtual hugs and support in such a difficult time. ♥️
another song many will hate...specifically those who don't know that you can, in fact, listen to a song more than once and learn to love it rather than being immediately hooked by a song's "catchiness"
Man, I was really hoping the reflektor man-thing was gonna shatter and it would be all be like "Boom. It's David Bowie." And then shit would get weird(er)
Funeral and Neon Bible will always be my favorites but this album and The Suburbs are also excellent. Definitely one of the top 3 bands of the decade, IMO. These guys, MGMT, and Spoon.
MERCI!
That part always give me the chills.. that, and when Bowies voice enters this beautiful weird universe.. This is truly the shortest ~8 minute song in the world - I almost always listen to it twice in a row. Even though I'm a big fan of AFs early work this song just completely shatters me (pun intended) every time
6. Hi! I’m Angie and my dream is to become a singer, I know there’re a lot of people like me, but could you please give a chance to watch my video of me singing on my channel? Please, I’ll be grateful.
