Marion has been kidnapped by the black warriors and demanded the lee brothers to disclose their martial arts secrets in return for Marion's freedom. The Lee brothers retaliate by going on a mission to rescue and save Marion. They use whatever technique they have like basic punches, kicks, jump kicks, elbow strike, head butts, as well as weapons. That comes to their hands. The Lee brothers must pursue the gangs through city slums, industrial areas, and the forest reaching out to the black warriors' hideout to confront big boss, Willy the gunman. This is easily the best version of the original Double Dragon.
I used to play this game a lot in the arcades. At the very last level where the final boss, while I was attacking Abodo, he grabbed and threw me up in the balcony where Willy the gunman was standing. Wow, did not notice it. It gave me the shortcut to beat him at an instant. After defeating Willy the gunman, all other enemies start to retreat. I only managed to kill one enemy which was Jeff preventing him from escaping. I assumed the difficulty was played on medium or hard since I did not check the settings at all.
Tried playing this game on MAME-Rerecording but the emulator movie file desync so I had to play it on MAMEUI with directing AVI recording instead. -

Best game of the 80s. Hard to believe that it's almost 30 year's old. Used to play this all the time on Brighton seafront. The good old elbow smash. I can complete this on the hardest setting without losing any health.

I was referring to the arcade version. Horrible game play and the con was that you had to put money in to buy upgrades. As for the far superior double dragon I didn't cheat well unless you call using the elbow cheating. But if it's in the game you can use it. I've always been pretty good at double dragon. When you set the game to the hardest setting the walls on the 4th mission do not come out I don't know why as it's meant to be hard. You cannot use a cheat on an arcade game unless you use MAME player

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. So, you know how old I was when this game came out. Video game memories can make me start crying. Maybe, that's not so weird, because many of us have great memories of our teenage years.

When I first saw this game it was in a dusty micro one-or-two-games-only arcade. These kind of places were pretty common in southern Italy in the 80's. It had only one joystick and two buttons (in order to jump you had to press both). I was only 11 and the game was a dream to me and my friends. Later on I discovered it in a bigger arcade with two joysticks and the third button, so I found out the 2 players option and new moves. Artificial Heaven for me

I remember of being a fan of Enter the Dragon, The Warriors, Streets of Fire, Big Trouble in Little China, Mad Max and such movies. Then suddenly this game shown up, nothing like that have been made before. The huge sprites, the colors, the ost, the continuous scenarios...it was like controling a mix of those movies in a cabinet. Remarkable experience.

In 89 I used to play this and Vigilante (IREM) lots and lots of times outhere in Brazil. From 1991 the Street Fighter mania (2p versus) took over the world and it outshined the beat'em ups.

This was the only arcade game i could ever crack back in the 80s. I used the reverse elbow to beat the big boss fighters and it was a power move that got me through. I was never a big gamer though and dont even play modern games at all

It was this game that made me take an interest in games, put a movie in my head now, how time goes by fast. Good times when we went with friends to play these wonderful games. I remember that I thought the graphics were incredible, it was a distant dream to have this in our homes, we had to content with: MSX, TK 90X, Amiga (great computer for the time). Good memories, I can not describe how I feel about this.

NES version = way better. The minimalistic approach of the 8-bit version brings a new dimension of art with it's graphics and chiptune sounds and OST, also there's this versus mode that it's incredible for such a limited hardware, etc js

There were many a Saturday afternoon in 1988 when my dad and I would go to Gas Stop (which had a full arcade) on the northside of Mason City, Iowa, and play this all the way through. It was fairly easy to do since you could get 15 tokens for a buck(it's a wonder that Aladdin's Castle at the mall ever competed with Gas Stop since you could only get 4 tokens for a buck there). It was pretty sad when Double Dragon moved out, but in its place, there ended up being Bad Dudes, then P.O.W., but by 1994, Gas Stop closed. There was much mourning, but the memories are still great.

Elbow punch made this game too easy. It was more of a challenge to maximize your score by using only reverse kicks, which gave the most points at 200 (elbow was only worth 180). I managed it once. And I loved using the reverse kick maneuver while holding something, it made you quick-turn and swing on enemies behind you.

Final Fight was one of those that really didn't port too well on the SNES -- as good as this was they kind of screwed up turning it into a one player and cutting out the fastest character. I often used Guy when I was in the arcade version of Final Fight - I had also played it's first sequel. too.

Join the club samdroidva and ZaLO. This has to be one of the most overrated arcade games ever. The Mega Drive version even had more animation and no slowdown, so there's no excuse for this to be so bad.

The fucking slow-down is what kills this game for me. Also bad in DD2 arcade. I honestly prefer the NES version...but listening to my nostalgia, this game was the shit back in the day.

Do you comprehend how big a smash hit this was as an arcade game? I played it as a kid and it was awesome. The NES was a rushed botched job that didn't even have 2 players. The developers admitted it was rushed and just one port of countless on every home system.
