you just saved me 500 bucks; i was planning to drive over to Betson in Phoenix and buy a new multisync in a few days because of a large green wash in the corners of my multisync. Because of your video i learned where the degausser is on my monitor, found it had slipped off the corners, and placed it back and hit the degauss button. It took a few times, but no more wash! THANK YOU!

Thanks for your help, I just noticed the shooter "1942" chosen to do the demonstration of degaussing. During WWII military ships were installed with degaussing coils to demagnetizes ship hauls to counter German magnetic mines.

I just wanted to express my appreciation for this video. I purchased a degaussing coil on walmart.com for $17. I didn't know how it worked until I watched your video. I have an arcade unit that has over a hundred and sixty games on it. I noticed it mostly on Donkey Kong and Miss Pac-Man. The right side of my monitor was very faded and cloudy. With your help I learned how to use this and it now works perfectly. Thank you again so much.

@TapGage Yes, we have used this particular degaussing coil on a 25 inch monitor and it works on that as well.

No wonder why my living room TV had its own built-in degaussing back int he 90's.. I didn't understand; I was just a 10 year old fascinated on how things work pushing its degaussing button LOL;;; It'll wobble my screen really fast in a lot of color for a second; and then it'll click the screen normal back in place.. THANKS! I believe it was a Megnovox. It has taken me 20 year's to know this thanks to you; we are now LCD's :")))

@UpNorthLiving2011 Unfortunately we do not sell the degaussing coils on our site. You can, however, buy the same degaussing coil that Tim uses in the video from MCM Electronics for around $30 (NOT including S&H). Just do a Google search for "mcm degaussing coil" it should be the first link.

My colors on Ms. Pacman have become dull when they were very much alive before. The color will flash in and out like they are fighting to go back to normal. Sometimes it will even stay normal for a whole minute but eventually flashes back to the dull colors. Even color everywhere. Does this sound like a need to recap it or degauss it?

My arcade CRT shows some discoloration on one side when that side is placed close to a wall. So it seems some radiation from the CRT is bouncing off the wall, and back in, and causing some interference. If I turn the machine, you can see the discoloration disappear. How do I troubleshoot/fix this?

In Australia the coil is $75 and the wand is like $20. Would a wand work just as well?

I have a joker poker game, the screen has gone blue with a bunch of lines and can’t see a thing, it started. With a bunch of grey lines then got bad. Can you point me in the right direction?

Justplainnasty, make sure you replace the battery and check the power supply. See our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for more tips. If it plays with no objects on the screen, could be some bad ROM chips on the board. Hope that helps. I don't use a coil, I just move up north until the yellow tint goes away. Just kidding. Nice video, some coils have a 1 minute on and off time, so you don't overheat it. At least mine did.

Dude seriously, use it on your TV you say. Although you can not say it would be impossible to find a CRT in anyone home now days, I will say it will be a challenge.
