This is because the inbuilt magnet on the component has got weak, also when setting up a crts geometry you have to face the tube to either north or south to get the correct alignment.
Right on, nice fix. The fascinating world of electromagnetism. Looking through Quora, something to do with the magnet weakening over time due to the Second Law of Thermodynamics and Entropy. ...I wonder if the pincushion transformer can be magnetized back to specification? ...I wonder if after a certain amount of time, you remove your placed magnet, if the transformer will do its job to full capacity once again. ...I've been finding the vast array of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum fascinating lately. The vast amount of light waves that we put to use in everyday life, the multitude of radio wave frequencies and wavelengths. etc. HAM radio operators refracting/reflecting waves off of the ionosphere to contact others on the other side of the Globe. Earth-Moon-Earth radio wave bounce. Taking a Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope and being able to view an atom.
I have this exact same issue with my candy cabs. I even bought a brand new monitor and the problem persists. Definitely gonna try the magnet. Thanks for the video and the insight !
Just my hands in this case. Sometimes I use a needle-nose pliers just to make it easier to reach. There's not much around that transformer to be worried about in terms of voltage/shocks, but if you wanted to play it safe, you could use rubber gloves and/or just do it with the monitor off.
