Arcade Spotlight - Mappy 

Excellent! It's loads of fun, even though on the surface, Mappy is so helpless. It's challenging how to navigate each mansion and take advantage of everything around you.

@@NeoTurboManiac78 What's funny is that Mappy has a baton stick in his hand, but he never uses it to attack the Meowky gang, only use it to pop balloons lol But yeah, I agree, Mappy is a true underrated masterpiece. I love the strategy behind the game to beat the levels, it's very unique and very fun. You've always gotta make sure you trick the Meowkies, and not be surrounded by jumping on trampolines, and make sure to use doors, microwave power doors, and bells to attack them back for defending yourself. I can't picture any other Arcade game in a same fashion like Mappy :)

@@retrofan4963 Not to mention that he is a cop, but doesn't have a gun hahaha! There really isn't a game that I can think of that's like Mappy.

@@retrofan4963 I agree, it’s tons of fun, one of the reasons why mappys great is the cabinet artwork,it’s up there with crystal castles as the nicest artwork ever, I wish these cabinets werent so hard to find,I’d love to play it on a actual mappy arcade cabinet.

@@laurababyyy1 Same. I'd love to play Mappy on the original Arcade Cabinet as well. Definately going to look for it and let you know where it is as well if I ever find it :) Yeah, it really sucks Mappy Arcade cabinets are so rare. You're right about that the reason it's so rare is because lot of Mappy Arcade Cabinets got retrofitted to Jr. Pacman's cabinets. Which is a huge bummer. Jr. Pacman is nowhere near as great as Mappy in my opinion.

Yes and both games used an oversized marquee.

Yes indeed. I’m taller than the machine without that marquee, but it towers over me with it.

Good to hear from another Mappy fan. It's tough, but rewarding when you get the hang of it. It's a bummer that Mappy was left of the Switch version of Namco Museum, since many of their prior iterations included that game.

I hope if Namco makes another Namco Museum compilation these days, the’ll finally include Mappy there, along with the a rare updated version called Mappy Arrangement.

@@retrofan4963 It would be nice to eventually see every Arrangement title from the Namco Classic Collection arcade games in a single compilation.

@@NeoTurboManiac78 You know Mappy Arrangement? That's so cool, usually people don't know much of the Arrangement titles from Namco Classic Collections, especially Mappy Arrangement. Have you ever played Mappy Arrangement yourself? I finally played it recently since I recently downloaded Namco Classic Collection vol. 1 on MAME. I agree, Namco strangely forgets about these Arrangement versions for some reason, they should include them next time in another new Namco Museum compilation hopefully.

@@retrofan4963 Yes I am familiar with the Arrangement titles from the Namco Classics Collection. A few of them (Pac-Man, Dig Dug, & Galaga) were released for Namco Museum on the PS2 and Xbox.

Thanks man! I can't tell you how many quarters I plunked into this machine to learn all the tricks I know and there's still a lot that I have yet to figure out. A few years ago, I got to meet Greg Bond, who previously held the world record in this game. We've had long discussions about this game to say the least.

I forgot you mentioned before that you on a Mappy cabinet. That is impressive.

NeoTurboManiac Pretty crazy story too. I'd never even seen the cocktail version before in person and this arcade auction I went to had two of them! Some large operator had cleaned out their warehouse to sell so there was tons of obscure stuff at this particular auction. I noticed the cabinet had a tax tag from 1988 on it so it had been in storage for a long time. The auctioneer sold the two cocktails back to back and I got the second one for a very reasonable $200 after the first one went higher!

I really want to get a mappy arcade machine just like the normal one in this video because it’s my favorite game of all time but I don’t know the first thing about buying an arcade machine would you know how much one in decent working condition would cost?

It's such a challenging game. On the surface you feel so helpless, yet once you know how to use everything, you are in complete control.

@@NeoTurboManiac78 exactly, if only mappy didn’t forget his baton in the police motorcade where he was dropped off. It’s challenging to learn how to keep a eye out for the mewkies and the big cat goro roaming around, as well as using bells,microwave power doors,and trap floors to complete mappy, which is why I love the mappy game,it’s all about memorisation. Not one bit is repetitive,not one bit feels like it’s the games fault for making mappy lose a life,or those police badges. Speaking of which,I don’t like those balloons for the marking of stages, I feel as though having a baton stick for the balloons would have been better,as well as a taser for the marking of stage 5 and on and on,as well as the house on stage 10.

Thanks Anthony! I know some people that aren't fans of this game, but I think it's because of its difficulty! They dread when this game comes up for competitions, but I would get excited when we have to play this game. My friend would always point out how helpless Mappy is, since he can't jump, shoot, or use his baton. It is intimidating when you have to walk through long hallways, knowing that the enemies move quicker than you do.

That's possible. I don't have much knowledge on configuring 60-in-1 boards.
