I have seen this game but never played it. It looks pretty fun for the time frame, it does not appear to have aged well for the arcade version. Then again I was just playing Progear on my Arc-S. I will say the NES version held up pretty darn well. Winner: Arcade Other Winner: You because you are willing to post more videos after an epic drop. Nice work as always man. This one does look very easy to pick up and play, I didn't sense struggle. Badass as always man!!
Thanks so much my friend! I could see this one being pretty good for its time and gives off major Xevious vibes but there's so many better shooters that there's little reason to check this game out besides curiosity or if you're a huge Xevious fan. The NES port is pretty solid and while I'd give the arcade the overall win I may give the NES a win or at least a tie if grading on a curve.
@@RetroComparisons The grading curve makes total sense after watching this and the SMS version. The NES did very well and would be a must own back in the day.
I don't think I've actually played the arcade version of this original game, only a fair bit of Alpha Mission 2. I have played the NES version on the everdrive a few times mainly because I was familiar with the sequel. It's alright. It's not the worst, but definitely not one of my favorites by a long shot. I haven't fired it up in years, but I don't believe I made it very far. It's pretty tough, at least to someone like me who enjoys shmups but is quite bad at them. The arcade version certainly looks and sounds like the winner here.
Your description is very accurate. This game is not bad by any means but it's very forgettable. I'd give the arcade the win but grading on a curve I may give them a tie as the NES version is pretty solid. I'm also a fan of shmups but quite bad at them. Whenever I need to record one I get excited to try a new shmup and then get frustrated by the 30 minute mark.
That time when bigger screen/sprites haven't made the game in question better. That was obvious, but...I guess, I've just needed to comment on something^^)) Also the sound department took a hit too. Were there an SMS port? Just curious, for the comparison sake))🤭
The NES port is a definite downgrade but honestly I'm not a huge fan of either port. I don't really like Xevious and this game gives off big Xevious vibes. Thankfully for me there's no SMS port and it's only on the NES & arcade so I never have to play this one again lol
@@RetroComparisons ahah)) well, yeah, I'm not a huge fan of shmups like that either. Imho, there were no better shmup than Thunder Force IV, it had all - the visuals, the rocking ost, dynamic gameplay, even some dramatic cutsenes/plot. Some were near that level, but still not on the same one^^))
@@oldfan4049 Oh yeah Thunder Force IV is a phenomenal game. I'm sure you probably see comments from Mike C on my channel and he's another huge fan of the Thunder Force series. I appreciate earlier games like these for setting the stage for better shooters later but as far as playing them now..eh I'll pass.
Thanks buddy! Yeah the NES port is a very solid port of the arcade. It's not the most original game or anything but not a bad little shooter from that era.
@@RetroComparisons Yeah for sure, I never really played many of these kinds of games (so many kinds of shooters on NES, MS, SNES, SG etc what are they top down shooters? Schmups or whatever they call them lol. Damn autocorrect, thing kept putting Smucks! lol. Hope you have a nice weekend!
I think Xevious may have been the biggest influence on this game, and I'm not a huge fan of that style. It's the whole thing with enemies on 2 different levels where 1 type of bomb hits the lower level and the regular bullets hit the upper level. But overall this is about as generic as it gets.
Graphics: 1942 Clone Looking But Kinda Different With Crunch Screen Presentation: Same Music & Sound: Lame Gameplay: Its Good For A Arcade Space Shooter Worth Playing?: Yes, Its Not Perfect But Its Good At Best🫤
