I really like how the wife was like "WTF are you doing, Viego?". This kind of stories usually don't go that way. "I loved you until my last breath. Why wasn't that enough?" is such a great line.

This event was so hype. It didn't end as we all wanted it to be but the cinematics were def cool.

Riots are good at creating villains with motives that make them relatable a bit. Silco in Arcane, Viego in Ruination.

The drama was surrounding the in-game Sentinels of Light event. Those Chapter Recap videos you watched were the recaps Riot put out to keep people up to speed on the story of the Sentinels of Light event. It was told through a Visual Novel in the game client (basically a slideshow of still images with some lines of dialogue and sound effects that told the story), and you had to grind out games of League in order to open up new chapters of the story to read. The problem was that it was extremely grindy, so a significant amount of players immediately 'missed out' on the story because they didn't play enough games. Even after Riot relaxed the amount of grinding needed to unlock the story, you were still left with a rather un-inspired story event - the writing was pretty bland, it had meaningless dialogue choices everywhere and there was a lot of juvenile humour (ie fart jokes etc). Then you have all the characters that were 'left out' of the story even though their established lore should have meant they would have been involved (Yorick was the big one here that didn't appear at all during the event) and the seemingly 'random' characters that did make it in. While there was some good stuff amongst it all, it was basically buried amongst the pile of mediocrity that the Sentinels of Light story event ended up being. So it quickly became a very sore point amongst the player base, which people still holding the whole Ruination thing up as a massive fail on Riot's part. Since the actual Sentinels of Light in game event (which ran from July to August 2021) however, there have actually been a few additions to the whole Ruination storyline which does help to smooth it though - the game "Ruined King: A League of Legends Story" (November 2021) is actually a prequel story to the Sentinels of Light story, which helped to flesh out the seemingly random acts by Miss Fortune and Pyke in particular during the main event and the novel "Ruination", by Anthony Reynolds (September 2022) is a pretty good read about the events of the original Ruination a thousand years earlier. Apparently the pandemic caused alot of delays, which was why the Ruined King game and Ruination novel got released so long after the main Sentinels of Light event.

"i feel sorry for him" This sentence represents me. The worst part of Viego's story is that we can easily relate and understand his pain and his motives... For me, he has good goals and a will worthy of a hero, but the methods presented to him were flawed. If only he knew the right person and the right tools to bring his beloved back... none of that would be necessary.

The Ruination book was quite good. It tells the story of how the ruination happens. Kalista is the main POV character and it made her my favorite shadow isle champ by the end of it.

Really recommend you the book. The controversy and drama with the in-game event of the sentinels of light, started a few months back with the release of Viego. The Blade of the Ruined King has been an item in the game for a long time, maybe since the beginning (I started playing in 2014 and it was already there). But obviously back then the lore wasn't as fleshed out, so we didn't have lot of lore for champions, even less for items, unlike now. The teaser you saw with Thresh speaking to his king, was the first teaser of the videogame ruined king, and the first teaser of the actual owner of the legendary item that we all know from league. We were all expecting an epic looking king, maybe undead, maybe a little old with heavy armor, who knows. Instead we got another edgy sad shirtless eboy. That was the first drama even before the event. Then the event came out, and the first cinematic (where Darius is being controlled) didn't seem that bad. Always good to see different characters in a season cinematic. But the in-game event was really really buggy, it was kind of a visual novel, where you are like the new recruit of the sentinels, and you can choose a bunch of dialog (most of it very corny imo), which didn't really affect anything in the story btw. Also, some rewards for completing missions were bugged and you couldn't get them. Then they start adding more characters to the sentinels lineup. First Vayne, tbh I really think she was the only one that made sense, since she is from demacia, also hunts evil creatures and didn't really had anything going on at the moment. But Olaf, Graves, Pyke, Rengar, Riven, Irelia and Diana really felt like Riot just inserted them in the story to sell more skins. Also making they feel way off of how their characters really are. At this point I just thought that the event was just to sell skins, and that it wouldn't end up being canon given how weird the story with the "new sentinels" was going. (The story in general from what you just watched wasn't bad, but when you add the in-game event interacting with the characters, really felt like it wasn't the same league universe). Riot has made events for skins before, like odyssey, spirit blossom, star guardian, project, etc. And those were ok because we all knew those were just skins, so no canon. (Some skinlines have their own lore, like Kda). I thought this event was going to end up the same way. I thought the canon lore was just going to be up until the ruined king game, which had a really cool story, and each character really felt like how they are supposed to be. Unlike the ruination event. But riot announced that it was actual canon so that was another hit. And then when the event ended, the community got mad because there were no signs at all, or just minor appearances of big Shadow Isles related characters like Yorick, Maokai, Karthus, etc, Instead of that they added characters that were from the other side of the world, that had their own lore story going on (like, wasn't Irelia supposed to be leading the Ionians to prepare for the second invasion of Noxus?). But well, like I said before, when you watch the cinematics it really doesn't feel that bad, is a cool story, ignoring countless shirtless skins (also, not even all sentinels showed up in the cinematics lol). I really liked the ending to this story, with Isolde basically saying "just let me die lol". Although I still liked the "prequel" story of the Ruined King game more. And the ruination book is really good too, we get some appearances that do make sense.

you should definetly check out the ruination book (novel). It is an amazing story - it is considered the Game of Thrones of League. It is written by Anthony Reynolds. He is a big name for well written League Lore. The drama around the event was that the ingame story and characters were confusing and not well done + it was (again) only a visual novel story which was as a medium too repetetive from previous events. Necrit even made a video about it "The Worst League of Legends Event - Ruining The Ruination". But the ruination novel brought everything together later on, so it makes sense in the book. The cinematics are good and give a very brief summary about the story.

I would ABSOLUTELY recommend that you read the book. It was really well written, and gives a lot of insight to the machinations of the characters involved. And when you're done, your review will be more content for us, lol!

Let's say it need a bit of polishing in the announced lore revision. Ruination book is a great addition to this story it adds so much of context and character details of many champions. Plus it has a GREAT SHIP

The Ruination book is really good. Would recommend you reading it. Ruination: A League of Legends story the game is also very good. If you're not good at games or turn based games, don't worry. It has a story mode.

In short. The Ruination event left the community in conflict due to it having a conflicting story to an older cannon version. And having brushed aside major champions who's whole existence is very tightly tied to the event and Viego himself. (Most of the shadow isles champions, most notably Yorick) Riot has decided to put the more profitable/marketable champions at center stage even if their own lore/personality would not be up for being heroes. One more reason is gameplay-wise, since this is a pretty big deal for LoL story, most thought Riot would implement some better game modes or gameplay changes or flavor changes to the game, but instead we just got some shitty achievement-based story scroller with options to choose like a dating sim on the launcher for the game. Personally I did not have hope so I was not effected as much, just disappointed knowing what riot can do, but they chose to lean to a more marketing based strategy which is understandable for a corporation.

When love turns into obsession and obsession becomes anguish, a monster is born. I feel bad for him, but all that he has done is no longer in line with love. By trying to snatch her away from death, he desecrated her soul and corrupted the lands. What he truly lost was not his love nor his wife, but himself. But my goodness, witnessing his loved one shot with an arrow twice is truly.... Regarding if they should just make movies instead of making games, i believe it's because they're gamers in the first place that they were inspired to make masterpieces.

I think you missed the prequel of the story; when Lucian freed Senna from Thresh. These were love story parallels; Lucian and Senna are on the "I will let you go if you die.." and Viego and Isolde are on the "I will NOT let you go if you die..".The drama is that when Ruination happened, there was a lot of stories/story dynamics that were happening all at the same time so at the time, Riot did not confirm or deny stories that are cannon but as of recently, they said that they were to shutdown League Universe(the treasure chest of written stories and color stories) and told the fanbase that as of now that Riot is reworking the BIG universe of League, the website is no more and all stories are cannon now. Before, the website is the cannon stories and everything else is heresy. Now since Riot Games can tell stories in more immersive ways, they aim on doing just that. Reason why there are chapters with Akshan is because they used to time gate a chapter, along with in-game rewards, so that they can let the players have a more immersive experience. They did this with Spirit Blossom too!

Viego tryed everything to bring his wife back and she rejected him at the end. What will now happen if he is ever able to escape his Prision or is released? He will be a broken man with no goal and driven mad by grief and confusion. I really hope That when or if his story continues that they will make a story that is at least as good as this one because i think viegos story is far from over.

Gwen is one of the most OP chars in LOL, if someone gets caught in her ulti, it is insta death.

viego deserved better (writing from riot). his character is great and the conclusion of his story is fine, i guess, but the way sentinels dispatched him, was completely undeserved. its the story where the villain just decided to not fight to his fullest. but he will still be one of the best villains of all time in my head.

I also really love these animations that complement the story!! But there are a few things that were not mentioned in these videos. There are bigger roles of some characters when it comes to champions like thresh. If you want to understand the story in full detail, I’d recommend to research a video about someone explaining the ruination timeline, it will be less confusing and the story will make more sense! the end of the video when u said Arcane touched just brief of the Runeterra's history... Yup... that's the biggest true ever said... everybody loves Arcane and now imagine if there was more then just conflict between Piltower and Zaun... I cannot wait for some other LoL series... f.e. about RuneWars, Darkin wars, Noxian Invasion or maybe just some horror with Nocturne or Fiddlesticks... Vayne trying to haunt down Evelynn... anime about Yasuo and Yone (something like spirit blossom cinematic, just longer)... Camille trying to haunt down Jhin... or something completely new like War between tribes of Freljord or Battle against Void (like continuing the Bel'Veth and Kai'Sa cinematic)... there is sooo much to explore, yet they still don't do anything... They have one of best and biggest universes and they just make new skins, release one cinematic per year (which is really cool, but just teaser for new champion Naafiri), they don't expand lore (they expand it with new champions, they don't expand story of others)... they would profit much more from the animated series and movies then from LoL skins 100%...

Why is kalista so dedicated to her uncle ? because they are the same age almost they grew-up together, and even if Viego is impulsive, hot tempered. Kalista know he is good and have goodwill which make is fall far more tragic. The Runation book is told through kalista's & thresh's eyes mainly.

Now with Naafiri coming out I would love to see your reaction to her trailer as well as your reaction and thoughts on the whole history of the Darkins, if you have time and energy of course! About the game itself - After Arcane I too started to get into the lore of LoL and got absolutely hooked! (Of course Arcane is still my favourite thing about it all) And I fought it for the longest time but I just HAD to try the games to get even more closely acquainted with the champions. And let me tell you, if you've not played MOBAs before (I didn't either) it's SO, SO DIFFICULT at first. I'm obsessed with all that Riot has created lore and music wise but the games themselves are not very beginner-friendly. But it is definitely doable and actually so fun!! After watching countless tutorials and practicing against bots I quickly got a little addicted, especially on Wild Rift (it's easier to me), I love completing missions and getting rewards, collecting skins (yeah, they got me, but I'm telling myself that my money goes to the production of Arcane

Ah Ruination, a case study how a corporation can shoot its own story telling in the foot for greed ... and the flaws and weaknesses of Riots story telling .... as well as som of its strong points.... and also on how not to do a multi media story... Characters set up and ignored ... wasted, established characters related ignored ... characters that make ??? float above your head involved ... The cinematics not matching the free comics and both not matching the novel ... the Marketing team driving the thing not really talking to the Lore guys ... and the different media teams not really talking together ... Completely ignoring existing story lines or the impact on them with what they are suggesting ... Characters and organizations/factions that should at least make an appearance or be mentioned in the different regions are nowhere to be seen ...

Viego is one the the bad villain that necrit said... Her role in this universe is so massive

If you played the Ruined King game, the biggest revelation in that story was that Viego did not love Isolde as his wife but rather as his trophy. He would dictate what she wears, how she acts, what she does just to make himself look good. He fully deluded into thinking that he does all of these because he loves her.

They did him so dirty. I find these cinematics so cringy. Especially since he did nothing wrong.

Actually, riot is already working on more animated/live action tv shows and movies, there is a interview on youtube with one of the guys that are working on those projects. He doesnt reveal any specific information on them, but he does explain the aproach that riot is taking to develop this tipe of content, for example, one of the things he revealed in that interview is that riot is wants to develop all this movies/tv shows completely in house. If you are interested, i think might be worth doing a video analysing some of the things that are explain in the interview. Great video as always, as a LoL fan is pretty entertaining to see new people discover the world of runeterra and its characters. 🫡

Even if the end of the story was... Disappointing. At least the message of the story was pretty nice, cz as far as i understand, the ruination is a metaphor of toxic love and obsession, viego thinks he loves his wife and that he loves her more than everything, but what he loves isnt his wife, but the feelings and sensation that his wife gave to him, like if she was an object of his property, he wants her to love him again, even after death.

And everyone know's Viego should have won.

There is just so much amazing lore content fleshing out Runeterra. Riot needs to hire animators. Like... lots of animators... and the studio that did "Arcane" needs to do the same. Then they can have them work in teams on new animated series like "Arcane." Each series can be about a different region, and if they had enough animators and staggered the production schedule right, they could be releasing a full season of a series every six months! I think that I'm keeping my expectations reasonable here. So get on it, Riot! By the time Season Two of "Arcane" is out, I want at least the first season of Ionia and Noxus to be well underway. ✌🤓
