I have bipolar with psychotic features , once lived with my demons for over a year until someone called an emergency and I got medications( sad that Jinx doesnt have that option in Zaun) , I feel like many people who have mental health issues can realte to the character cause she has just been written soo well , her mental breakdown scenes really look soo real, and you feel for her cause you understand how loud it must be in her head
I love how they don't portray her as just the "cute but villainous" type of girl, while I love those characters. While Powder/Jinx looks cute, she has severe trauma PTSD BPD and schizophrenia. She isn't portrayed as cute and is genuinely tragic, her character isn't lighthearted. She's such a great character
I think tragic is a better term than scary We shouldnt be afraid of people who have conditions like Jinx She genuinely would not be a criminal had things not went the way they did
Her vulnerability was taken advantage of when Vi left her to take that break. Vi need space to process everything going on so she wouldn't hurt again but ended up being tricked. Jinx on the other hand would never know that and in that moment she thought Vi left her for what she did and didn't love her, especially since it was left on Vi punching her. Silco saw that and used it to manipulate young Jinx bc he saw how smart she was.
I don't think Jinx has schizophrenia, but psychosis. I struggle with the same problems as jinx (seeing people from my traumatic past and talking with them or other voices) and was diagnosed with psychosis, bpd, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Yes she sees her friend, but only because of trauma and mental health issues.
Jinx is the perfect representation of borderline personality disorder, Watching her made me feel like I wasn’t all alone in my “childish” episodes over things I perceive.

Jinx is one of the most relatable characters I've encountered in media. Her reaction to trauma feels so real, and the abandonment issues really hit home for me. The first mental breakdown scene with her as a kid was especially relatable to me, bc I've had breakdowns exactly like that before. Unlike in some other movies and shows I've watched, it's not one of those "romanticized" breakdowns, and I like that.
Jinx suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), PTSD, Severe Trauma, and Schizophrenia. Jinx (her child self) shows the example of people having relatable traumas and having severe and insane mental breakdown issues. She’s gone through worse.
5:45 is where they show her PTSD as she sees something that triggers her PTSD and she has a flashback and I love how accurate it is. I relate to her so much with her issues it’s insane. She’s such a comfort character.

I would argue the end scene isn't a mental breakdown. And that's the tragedy. It's Powder fully embracing who she is - a monster, and while it's tearing her apart and fully irrational, evil, and deep down she knows it - she believes she is so far gone that there's no coming back. But I have zero doubt that she's fully in control, and her head is completely clear as is evidenced by her calmness, and a lack of "voices" (I know there's a music cue, but still)
You can see that from the start she was already lost, you can see clearly signs of Borderline Peronsality Disorder (having a crisis because the group left her), after the trauma of killing everyone (accidentally) she also got psychosis and PTDS. Poor thing :( didn't have a chance since she was little...
Jinx has the same mental health issues that I have ptsd with delusions, I can’t tell what’s real and what’s not sometimes, it’s gotten better with therapy and meditation but I still get episodes sometimes but it’s rare But when I was going through my trauma I. Was.Jinx. 10000% and it was scary cause half the time I’d blackout and not realize what I’ve done
am I the only one that feel horrible for Vi? like imagine if you told someone to stand back because you know that they might mess up, but they refused to and things actually went wrong because of their intervention. And imagine if your loved ones die because of them too. it's a horrible ick, just like "I told you so" scenario.
She originally told her that to protect her because she was so young. She unfairly used it against Powder after everything transpired. It's incredibly well written and tragic all around

Vi abandoned Powder because of her rage. The same way Vander betrayed Silco and tried to kill him due to his rage. What is the ultimate philosophy of Arcane? Karma is a full circle. Use rage and murder to condemn that which you create, you will suffer accordingly as you create the mirror copies of your sins....For Vander their is Silco, for Vi their is.......Jinx!
that part where Pow stapled herself. Hard to watch. When I was in a bad state mentally, I was somehow like that. Voices, physical pain for diversion, talking to self-- it's crazy.
In many ways, I'm similar to her. Watching this brings back memories. When i was in school, people made fun of a few dark freckles on my face. It upset me so much. I was an outcast and felt very much like i just didn't beling anywhere. One day while looking in the mirror and crying and feeling unbearable sadness, i decided to simply cut out the dark freckles on my face with a razor blade. I became rather twisted. But then, i met my soon to be bestest friend. I loved and love him so much. His kindness and care for me heald me. I promised him that i would become stronger, better and continue to live. Leaving my desire to die behind me. I have changed. I never thought that life would be as good as it is now. Yes i went through hell, but I've come out the other side of a dark tunnel. And i believe if that can happen, anything is possible. I have hope and love for a guy who pulled me back from the edge of the abyss, and i sincerely hope that others will find what i thought i never would.
Watching this to prepare myself for her meltdowns in season 2. I felt that scream in 'a score to settle'. Takes me back to rough shit in my life and past. Literally. My heart rate went UP.
@@oranjebeer6637 because I have psychosis and my meltdowns are exactly like hers. If she had schizophrenia she'd be seeing people that she's never met. Psychosis is where you can have visual and audio hallucinations based on traumatic events.

Psychosis is a symptom which can occur in a range of mental health issues including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, or can be triggered by stress, alcohol or drug use. It's characterised by a detachment from reality and can include hallucinations, delusions etc. Schizophrenia has more specific diagnostic criteria, which as well some "positive symptoms," (hallucinations, delusions) includes "negative symptoms" - meaning normal function that is reduced like disorganised thinking and speaking, emotional blunting and a reduced capacity to understand or interact with the environment (think catatonia). Someone with schizophrenia will experience episodes of psychosis but psychosis is not limited to schizophrenia.
I know everyone compares Jinx to Harley Quinn, but I think another comparison works even better; Spider-Man. She loses her parents at a young age. Gets her adopted family killed because of her actions. Has a genius-level intellect. Builds devices out of scrap metal that amazes people with far greater resources and education. And seems to have sixth-sense that warns her of danger.
OK first off, this video ends about 20 seconds too soon, let us see the blast. Also watching this makes me sympathize for more with Silco and Jinx than I did on my original watch through.

If you want subjective insight into what is right and wrong with Jinx, I will provide it based on personal experience. Jinx is Autistic and suffers from extreme CPTSD (complex post traumatic stress disorder....Think combat vets who come back home) I often hear voices not because I'm crazy, but because like Jinx I assigned a person-hood to an object as all Autistic people tend to do. Hence Jinx hears voices, many people have misinterpreted this as schizophrenia and it's not because she knows the voices aren't real but figments she makes up to talk through her high level of logic and reason as a neurodivergent human. I can continue this with anyone that wishes to talk this through, I have loved this series going all the way back to Dota circa 2004 and I truly relate to Silco and Jinx, not Vander and Vi....
Hi I'm actually very curious about this! I was diagnosed with autism when I was 21 however two years later it was misdiagnosed BPD and PTSD and learned my blood family is like asylum crazy like every single one of them (dad is adopted) anyway, I don't believe jinx is autistic. I genuinely do think she has borderline though. Alot of autism symptoms in women can be very similar to BPD symptoms in women as well hence my misdiagnosis.

Guys, she has BDP, not schizophrenia. Otherwise she would speak incoherently, experience impaired motor coordination and a lack of motivation (which she clearly demonstrates each throughout the show). In other words she wouldn’t be as capable as she is.

It's just that there's so many different diagnoses people are throwing at this character and I'm not sure if the creators have ever confirmed what she actually suffers from. To me, it seemed like the average cartoonish depiction of a mentally ill person, down to the over-the-top pencil drawing hallucinations. I'd be happy to know what was able to clue you in to her having BPD though.
@@jesterfairy3845 well I guess the better way to put it is she has behavior modeled after someone with BPD. I can see that a lot of people are diagnosing her differently though. The biggest indicator I see is her fear of being abandoned and her having a, "favorite person" her sister Vi. As a child Jinx's emotions become unmanageable when her family, "abandons" her, this leads her to become violently destructive even destroying things important to her. She goes into a frantic effort to avoid abandonment by going to, "help" them. When this backfires she begs for Vi not to leave her and then immediately assumes she will not come back and disowns Vi-and then goes back and forth on her the favorite person cycle of "I hate you/don't abandon me/how dare you/I love you) emotions towards her sister in adulthood. Unfortunately I haven't watched the full arcane series yet, so I'm not sure the extent of her issues. I read in another comment she also kept the dead body of someone who caused her trauma? Not sure how accurate that is but I'll come back to that later. BPD is a cluster B personality disorder making some of her behaviors come off as purely unhinged and I can see where you get the idea that she is only travesty of a mentally ill person. Unfortunately BPD can be associated with murders/psychopaths/temper tantrums. But I think the best way to see if my theory is correct is to consult the actual DSM-5 and see if it matches up rather then purely go off experience.
Jinx is very very well written, actually it’s one of the rare girls with psychological problems who is this well written. As an example take Harley queen who is in my opinion written like a UwU crazy girl
It could be a whole host of different disorders. Later on she develops Psychosis and I think other disorders that I cannot remember. The most common would be anxiety and depression.
