Brian Slagel, CEO/Owner of Metal Blade Records, interviews John Arch and Jim Matheos about their "Fates Warning" history. Order Here: www.archmatheos...
The Specter and The Guardian are two of my favorite metal lp's of all time. Just want the band to know how much those mean to me, I still listen to them 20 years later and still love the music, lyrics, singing and how you guys brought it all together. Thanks from a fan. :)
Been listening to the first 3 albums every day for the past 4 years. My younger brother got me into them and i love him forever for that. Awaken The Guardian always brings a tear in my eye
maybe I'm crazy, but i love the sound/production of 'Guardian'. the immense drums, the subdued yet contradictorily razor-sharp guitar tone, and the angelic vocals.....sign me up from now 'till doomsday. FW (all eras) is a gift from the gods to mankind.
The John Arch FW albums are more straight heavy metal albums with prog tenancies, where ever since Ray stepped aboard, he's been more into the progressive stuff. In other words, he's prouder of proggier FW because that's what he likes more.
Because our tastes in music change, and that change is different for each of us. I mean at 51 I listen to stuff I would have not bothered with when I was 16. Nothing in this world stays the same and that includes us
@@mvunit3 Oh yes we do!!! :D Fates Warning in total. When I first heard the band I didn't even have the members' names written somewhere though I instantly loved them.
I still listen to side two of The Spectre Within on cassette. The Apparition, *haunting*, Kirie Elesion, *mischevious*, Epitaph... *flawless*. That, and blight on the soul. Epitaph keeps me in check. Who wants to be; lost in silence, swallowed in vastness... drowned, in the depths, of a meaningless past...? Fuckin' Brilliant stuff, John. Amazing and scarifying.
I think the ghost guy is right. Musicians all think their old stuff sucks. But other people like me are like, wait a minute, your so excited about Arch/Matheos (which I have listened to) but your old stuff kicks the crap out of The new stuff. How its processed, musically, lyrically, everything. The saddest question I could ever here is: "Who's Fates Warning?" Poor, poor underrated Fates Warning. Best band ever. \m/
Love to hear the love for Epitaph. Probably my favorite tune out of the 1st 3 albums. And I think they were thinking of the Last Call that was a demo but never on the Album.
"Specter Within" was the best album these guys put out. I dont know how or why but i when explaing to people what Fates Warning was, i called it "Intelligent Metal" John Arch is such a good singer, looking at him here, he looks like a dad, "just a guy" but his secret identity is super rockstar!! My second favorite release was "Awaken the Guardian" the second singer (Ray Alder) is a good singer but no one, NO ONE can fill John Arch's shoes.
8:30 is kinda harsh. Self the hardest critic, but man, I'm just discovering FW and I look forward to coming up to speed. Epic and I like the production as is.
During high school a friend who was dating one of these members from Fates I do not know who, gave me their first record with that awful burning witch on it...
I heard Jim gave him an ultimatum. Dedicate all your time to the band or you’re out. John had a family so he had to keep working his day job. Not sure how true that is but it’s too bad they parted ways. They might have been huge with the way they were progressing. I’m glad they’re collaborating again. Too bad Jim has such a shitty attitude about their older stuff. It’s classic and what put them on the map.
"I wouldn't do any of those songs unless John was there." Well, no shit, Alder couldn't sing any of those songs if his life depended on it. Can't even sing half of his own material anymore.
Jim was trying to point out that John's style is so unique nobody else could ever duplicate it no matter how great they were, but thanks for being a dick for no reason.
por mucho que lo intente los discos de fates warning con este cantante no me entran, yo lo encuentro terriblemente desafinado con unas melodías vocales muy malas que arruinan el producto final por muy buenos riff que toquen y lo mismo me pasa con este proyecto.
I used to really like the first three albums. This is so deflating to me.Nothing interesting at all. Music executive Slagel in a Ghost shirt. Ghost is about as uncool as it gets. Geez .Maybe MBlade is their label. Lemme.outta here. !!!
Gosh . . . Now, I wonder what John, and especially Jim "feels" playing those older songs live now that in 2015 (and 2014 I think) going to special festivals with the original MK II lineup :). Though I know that the Greeks give them a lot of love for every damn album throughout their illustrious career. I sure wish they'd come to LA to do the "Awaken the Guardian" shows, and PLEASE - another Arch/Matheos album :). LOVE the latest FW album with Alder "Theories of Flight" :D.
