Archeage Launch to Failure Speed Run Any % - Kakao's World Record

Archeage has to be one of the most disappointing MMORPGs. Every time it gets a fresh breath of life, someone creeps up behind it and hits it with a lead pipe. Usually the publisher but the developer can't escape with almost a decade of letting this happen either.
Kakao took over, changed the monetization model and then just let people rampantly abuse alt accounts in a way that is worse than even Gamigo's incompetence. Then they started banning people, 10 THOUSAND ALTS later and they banned 75 main accounts. No rollback. Ridiculous.

I liked the combat and the style of this game but I think it's just too competitive and the open world pvp is so break-neck that people fell they need to engage in cheating, exploiting etc. just to be able to play it normally. Also, the gear upgrading system is very break-neck too. You can't even use the auction house until you're max level now! Black Desert Online has pretty much the same mechanics in some respects with open world pvp at 50+ BUT the difference there is pk'ers have a hefty karma penalty and it's discouraged. Also, you're not exposed to the forced pvp (if you want to call it that haha) until after 50 instead of around 25-30 like it is in AA without any penalties for the pk'ers. Upgrading gear in BDO is very forgiving until after TRI and sometimes TRI is high enough to do the job for about 98% of the player base there. I know BDO had some cheating problems a few years ago but at least when PA took it over about a year ago they improved it very well!!

The Hiram Grind and other shit turned it into a shitty theme park. You can only do anything in the game when you nolife it to an very unhealthy degree. The Systems got so convoluted that even the original devs stated its just completly fucked. I really hope they meant the things they wrote about in the Whitepaper for Archeage 2. The original Game had so much potential.

Man I loved playing this back in the old trino days.. Even had my own little island out on the ocean at some point with all my farms and a nice treehouse, galleon in the water.. took ages to get it all and it was such a nice feeling to just relax out there on my own personal little paradise.. but once I did get it all it soon became a frustrating grind for upkeep as more and more people quit, I eventually lost interest and left..

I don't even see how they can ban people for making free accounts. That isn't even an exploit. They are banning players for the company's mistakes. There should be class action lawsuits for these things.

It always fails because of the credit card gamers and morons who will always follow it to every fresh start. @@tmax4750 but ArcheAge is truly different than most other MMOs. Like, no other game does what ArcheAge does. Overwhelming majority of MMOs out there are more or less successful WoW clones. If you look at it realistically, 99% of all innovation in the genre comes from Korea. For some reason nobody is interested on grabbing a bunch of good ideas from various existing games and making them into one, badass game. They always do one thing right and fuck up everything else. Yet ArcheAge was unique - it has done A LOT of things good and is consistently butchered by whoever gets ahold of it. It's literally insane.

Such a sad story for Archeage. I played Jake Song's first mmo, Nexustk, back in 1997 or 98. That game was so fucking cool. Archeage is literally Nexus but built on a better engine. I was so excited for it since I played Nexus for years. When Trion launched it I was the 2nd person on my server to become a pirate. I murdered so fucking many of my own faction I spent hundreds of hours in jail playing soccer with the other scum fucks. When I was finally exiled and set off on my raft to pirate island I was so happy. I landed on pirate island and saw someone was already there! It was a person from the opposing faction. We danced and tried to talk to each other but for some fucking reason they decided to make faction chat stay even after getting exiled from it. So we used emotes to talk and went to claim a farm spot. We ran to the area designated for creating your farm and was shocked to find EVERY FUCKING PLOT WAS ALREADY TAKEN!!! The fucking bots in the game had just teleported and claimed it all on day 1 I guess. So we were fucked and couldn't even farm our own island. Instead we got on a raft and sailed around and tried to attack both factions when we came across them. It was fun, but not having a way to farm really fucked us. Then Trion decided to release the new continent even though the entire community on the forums was complaining about bots scooping up every plot the second it opened up. I wrote multiple posts detailing the issue with bots and how you can't even report them because they sit under the terrain and instantly buy the plot before people can even click on it. If they released the new territory it would just be a repeat and all of us actual players would get fucked over again. Trion ignored everyone and did it anyways, and as expected the bots got it all again. I lost my fucking shit and wrote a "strongly" worded post showing screenshots and shit of the whole ordeal to Trion. The next day I went to log in and found that my account had been banned! What the fuck?! I went to the website to access my account and I couldn't. Trion had an automated email sent to me saying I was banned for harassment. A fucking PERMA ban too, not a temporary ban. I tried to appeal it and was ignored. I was so fucking mad I never played it again, still haven't, never will no matter who owns it. It is a damn shame that XLgames keeps letting shitters publish their game. Trion was fucking trash. Gamigo is fucking trash. And Kakao is also fucking trash. Kakao sucked ass at publishing Black Desert, even though Pearl Abyss is just as shit or worse. Elyon is trash. Holy fucking shit.

I was in the Kakao discord 24/7 up untill this fresh start release, and was pondering a great deal how every company manages to fuck everything up so bad with this game. The red flags were everywhere. I'm starting to think AA has a reputation for being THE game to buy and launch as a quick cash grab, because people will always come back. The game has so many unique mechanics, and it can really get you addicted. A lot of dumb shit has been added to the game, but underneath all the bullshit lies a masterpiece, and there will always be optimists coming back to see if something has improved. Nothing will ever improve, because that's not the goal anymore. Nobody is this incompetent. They know exactly what they're doing. It's just a cash grab.

They fucked up, but this fresh start isn't totally gone, far from it actually. I would say one of the best since 3.0. My progression is pretty okay with one alt, and most people complaining would never make to the top 100 even if they restarted the server everytime they fall behind. It wasn't pretty, but Kira was probably told by someone about this, read two topics on Reddit without any regard to the actual in game state, proceed to take it as the entire truth and started talking in his condescending way about how this game is great and that it could've been better, so yeah of course it's going to be a half ass video that will not reflect the entire situation and it's still going to be popular by joining the hate bandwagon that the game has because of it myriad of fuckups before.

Such a good game ruined by greed and incompetence, I had such good memories of playing this game with friends and guildies pirating people all day and doing pvp and worldbosses, this really had the potential to be one of the top pvp games out there but every step along the way whoever has been handling Archeage has fucked it, whether its the RNG, the million and one messed up things they did on the cash shop, the rumbling Archeum trees that made so many players quit, the exploits, the lack of communication, limiting arena entries, adding set times to world bosses and other catering to the carebears, the terrible support, fresh start servers, releasing a separate Archeage (Unchained) I hope they do better with AA2 and I will play AA2 but if I am real with myself I know they will fuck it up too.

Yes, I miss the good ol times of archeage, but also another ting that completely ruined it was rampant bot menace in the game. and Bots hijacking properties and just overall ruined the entire economy of the game. It could be the best game, yet due to pure mismanagement, it became the worst.
@col2212

@@Kameeho That too there were a lot of bots when the game had a healthy playerbase, grabbing up all the land, auto farming mobs in auroria for gear and coinpurses or even bots that teleported tradepacks across the map for big profits. Theres many things i missed off my complaints about archeage and its not even just the publishers its the developers too heres an example, the fishing boat lag that took years to fix for anyone curious for years there was a problem in archeage if you had a few fishing boats out at a fishing spot eventually your fps would be like a slideshow and you had to restart your game, salt water fishing was the only fishing worth your time and it was high risk because it was a pvp zone so having to restart your game where anyone could steal your boat was not ideal.

I really have to say, that old adage remains: If something online is free, then you're the product. Whether that be through relatively straightforward yet monetarily predatory cash shops, the selling of user data, or nefarious means such as malicious software. while you are correct that in a free to play game, the free players are the product, you are wrong in everything else, it is on the studio/publisher how they make their product work for their game look at Apex, published by one of the greediest companies in gaming, while they ignore few gamebreaking issues since pretty much the launch, they still at least managed to do a monetization system, that, while shamefully greedy, isn't to detriment of any free player

Sure Archeage's unique systems sound fun on paper, but pay to win, toxicity, trolling, and a bad new player experience are built into the game's design and can't be separated.

had the best time of my life during an MMO (beta and early launch days) of OG AA but it went to shit afterwards. I could look past labor restrictions and gear "blowing up" but the way they monetized it was far too awful and with the recent updates it's not something you'd want anymore. Nothing matter but the dailies/weeklies and upgrading "Haram" gear. That makes it hard to catch up and not fun for new players. After the slaughter of trading stuff it's awful and garbage. It had great potential but it didn't live up to its hype at all

Kakao made some great changes for this fresh start, and alot of them were really really good. They gave us gated content,fixed RMTing for the first week with limiting trade and auction house, so they didnt completely fail. But i even messaged the community managers about giving out the free items with codes and i even gave them a walkthrough on how this could get exploited and i got ignored and told "That wont happen". 2 weeks later the same exploits and abuse i gave them a walkthrough about happened exactly the same way i explained to them. At this point ive played every fresh start since the archeage closed beta original launch. Every single time i have tried to help the developers,CM's and the game on how to fix the game and avoid exploits. I know every single dirty trick in the book and how to do them, but everytime it gets ignored when i give them the warning/walkthrough/explanation. Its rough to see.

I played AAU when it was initially launched and got to enjoy a brief surreal experience for the first 100 hours, ignoring all the exploits going on and just happily exploring and making illegal farms. Overtime, pvp became more and more relevant and that's when the exploiting and problems really began to affect my experience. I am proud I grinded it out to end game and made nice videos of my time with friends, but the overall experience was intense and borderline abusive and I will never fall back to this trap. This game isn't really for casuals and all the more reason why exploits like this are hella troubling.

To be fair.. At the original launch (at least in western countries), the game was effed from the first second, with their 3 day early access being literally unplayable, as their servers couldn't hold the amount of people that had bought the packs. I personally stopped after only being able to play for 10 minutes that weekend. Those 10 minutes were full of lag and rubberbanding, which continued 2-3 weeks into the games launch.
@falseking989

This reminds me of the experience exploit in WoW where you could infinitely stack the +10% experience potion. I didn’t use it, but people got banned anywhere from 24 hour to 30 day bans. A company needs to be consistent in dealing with exploiting, because it will set a precedent to dealing with unforeseen problems. The way the company dealt with this problem was outrageous. If I got suspended for doing something due to their negligence; that would be it for me.

I always love fresh starts on this game, early open world pvp, people with the same gear battling it out is great. The game lasts until 3 weeks in, then you see the classic exploiting bullshit arise, people using alts for major advantages, people buying gold etc. It's sad because when playing it you see the potential but, the systems within the game promote using alts. I enjoy the fresh starts, I always go in with the expectations of this is a 3 week game now, the game is not long term as is, gear difference gets too big and gear is everything in this game. The top 250, maybe even 500 are using alts, most of them rmting and all of them definitely exploited. But as archeage players like to say, exploit early, and exploit often. We've always seen no repercussions so people will keep doing it. I feel bad for the legit players who try to play this game longterm because it will always end up the same shitty way. Can't wait for every to be double the gearscore of others in a week or so when one of the content gates are lifted. I had my fun pvping in halcy on the first day and aegis on the second and third, but thats it for me. See you guys on the next one.

You're absolutely right. Keeping servers running costs money. Keeping a dev team developing content costs money. Unfortunately some studios and publishers just see the dollar signs and want to grab as much as they can. I think a reasonably priced buy once (say $40 to $50) plus a reasonable monthly sub ($5 - $10) is the way to go. If the game is good, and the playing experience is good, the long-term money will look after itself. There's no such thing as a free lunch, and there's no such thing as a free game. You have to pay one way or another, or have a crap game. We as the gamer community need to recognise this. OMG I have to pay a monthly sub? No way. But compare a monthly sub to play as much as you like, compared to sitting in a pub - you'll get way more value for money with a game.

3:08 My biggest gripe with MMORPGs is this right here: the screen is too damn cluttered! There's so much stuff on the screen to keep track of, and this isn't even in combat etc. You have dozens of icons, that you have to remember the meaning of constantly, while focusing on everything else. It's too much. Meanwhile, Skyrim, a regular RPG, has the most minimalist HUD I've ever seen.

MMOs NEED to be Sub Based. If the style and genre and systems of a game don't make you willing to pay a Sub, then it's not the game for you in the first place. I know people see that as some sort of gate keeping, but the F2P model is a LOT of the reasons that the MMO genre finds it's self in the place it does today (a garbage fire, if you hadn't been paying attention.) Sad. I was hoping Archeage could get a little breather so we could remember the good ol times while waiting and hoping for Archeage 2 not being shit I still stand that the Labor system is a good thing if done correctly, my experience from private server, where you had lot more labor and multiacc was banned, Labor system resulted in you doing your daily labor burn and then going to pvp, chat, do events, have fun some people wouldn't do the labor burn and instead slowly fish their labor away (fishing in Archeage was actually really well made, unlike any other MMO in existence) or do other activities if Labor is properly limited (no multiacc) and isn't too scarce to let people do what they like not forcing them to math the sht out of it, it works like a great system to limit the work player does in game while allowing for different styles and time usage while keeping everyone in a specific range of progress

I play AA Legacy. The worst of the abuse was on Unchained, but it exists on both iterations of AA. As Kakao stated these exploits are their highest priority, and have resulted in banned accounts. In the meantime, systems have broken down since Kakao took over, and that is NOT being addressed. I do not know what is happening in AAU, but Legacy is in real trouble. UI not working, patrons not receiving offline labor, broken quests, quests in Korean, missing items and instances kicking players for no discernable reason. CMs in discord tell us that they have passed the info on. Crickets from Kakao. Despite all of this, Archeage is a game with so many features, it is hard to beat in scope. I have friends who have worked with me, to develop and grow as a team, and the thought of giving up now, is just sad. I really, really thought Kakao was here to save us. So very disappointed and disheartened.

Of course the players will exploit every opportunity they get, or grief others, or abuse bad systems. Thats always the case, which is why its the responsibility of a developer and publisher to control such systems, ideally never implement them, and when shit happens, act accordingly and fix them. But none of these actions were every taken by anyone in charge.

Incompetence aside, this time around there is a fundamental difference. They are actually punishing those exploiting and destroying the game. These very same people had done so on every single fresh start and it was about time someone did anything about it. Also bear in mind that it was not “everyone” that exploited and abused this issue (not to mention that the website weakness required at least some coding understanding which the majority of the player base did not have). It was the same few people that did so in the past, did now, and would do again on any fresh start. Therefore, unlike the predecessors that gave absolutely zero cakes whether someone was using game breaking bugs and exploits (why would they care, this would only incentivise people to spend more money in the in-game shop in order to compete), we are actually seeing something different. From my experience there were 3 categories of people/players in AA: 1) Exploiters. These were allowed to roam free in order to boost toxicity and the feeling of “unfairness” which has been proven to push the rest of the people to use the ingame cash shop in order to be able to compete. 2) Whales. These care little about the exploits, and they will keep sinking money into the game no matter the circumstances. 3) Those that actually try to play the game legitimately and without using the cash shop (which is around 90% of the total pop). These are the people that had been abused time and again by both the exploiters, whales and ofc the publisher’s unwillingness to do a single thing to control Number 1 and 2. It is no surprise that after a few months, the player base would dwindle to that of 10% of the original, since all that was left was exploiters and whales. Number 3 would had at that point quit the game. And here we are today, that despite this unprecedented fk up, those quitting first are the whales AND the EXPLOITERES! I have honestly never seen more salt on a public forum about people’s accounts being banned. In a sense I do understand them. They had been conditioned over the years to know that not abusing an exploit it would lead to FOMO as you correctly said. Although not ideal, I am happy that they banned and will keep banning people out of this game for engaging in such activities.

So when Kakao was still but publisher of BDO, they had a similar issue where you would get these scrolls that drop high quality loots for being a new account that you would do as a guild. They also had the free accounts during this time. So guilds capitalized this by creating unlimited accounts and feeding the scrolls to the guild they were in which their main could then go do. Most of those players never really saw any kind of punishment save a few perma bans when there were many people that did this, and a negative cm balance. Kind of par for the course with KK
