Watching the reviews for years, it's unbelievable I came across this one just now. 😅 But I'm pretty glad I did. I'm practicing this kind of philosophy for a time now (not going to label it - doesn't matter what we call it) and it brought some amazing realizations to my life for sure. Combining it with archery was one of the best things I ever came up with... it was like two magnets coming together with a click, it felt just right. 🙂 Ever since, archery is my personal practice of meditation - so to say. 🙏 So I'm kinda glad to see someone taking the effort to bring awareness to this kind of aspect of archery as well. ✌

Most of what we worry about are just human abstractions and as you say Armin, nearly all of these concerns are in the past or future. Emptying the mind whilst we focus in the now, I listen to my breathing, on bird call, on the sky, but what ever works, is essential for good mental hygiene and mental health. This is an important concept for archery and living. Cheers Armin

Mystics and gurus have been teaching this forever and still they do not understand. Situation, thinkig ,feeling ,behavior. So here's you: in a situation you have thoughts about that situation and now you feel a certain way which then alters your behavior which changes the situation. This happens several times a minute. All you have to do is change your thinking and in this way you have control of your emotions and therefore you have a greater influence over any given situation than you would have ever believed possible. This is how people are constantly creating their own reality for better or for worse without having realized it ,this word realize...real eyes ,are you seeing with your real eyes or are you a prisoner of your own design. Free your mind. Light up the darkness.

Thank you Armin. What I usually experience is frustration - that I practice over and over and do not seem to improve steadily. From day to day my shooting varies alot. I have many different bows and switch back and forth thinking one will resolve the problems I am having with the other. I get frustrated and angry with myself so much that I swear I will give up archery all together. But next day I am back again....I feel determination but often am angry at the end of a some practice sessions. Thank you for your guidance, I will try your suggestions.
@mortenjacobsen5673

frustration is the layer between skill and ambition ,raise your skill or lower your ambition . if you have target panic or focus only on where the arrows hit down range repeating the same pattern will not help , its like burning all the bridges on the island hoping to grow wings. focus on technique , no action without purpose

This reminds me a lot of someone i used to work with, when i had a tea house. I try to apply a Zen approach to things in my life, but sadly it doesn't work for very serious things... and that's when you need it the most. After a lot of thought about all these teachings, i do believe in GENERAL it's a good way to deal with things, or at least a better-than-most-other-ways way. Still, i can't help but feel there's something missing. A 100% Zen approach doesn't seem to be applicable to real life. Wonder if we'll ever find what the missing thing is.

I fell from the stairs around two weeks ago. Hurt my shoulder and back. Can't draw my bow and no idea when I'll be able to. A week? A month? Hard to say. The feeling is... I don't know, strange. Like I'm wasting time. What I've been doing everyday since the fall is just holding the bow. I like the feel of the riser in my hand. Plinking the string and seeing the fur silencers fluff around. Or playing with an arrow, simulating a draw. It calms me down. Nothing else to do but wait really. Thanks for the video, it was nice to watch.

I recommend sitting. In a hard chair. Stick your but against the back of the chair. Rise up. Feel for whey almost in line but stop there. You WANT your but sticking out. Line up your neck... your head. CLose your eyes without closing your eyes. Your shoulders slightly back. Feet flat. Now feel the bottoms of your feet. Your feet. Your ankles. Your shins.. and up. Squeeze every muscle as you look at it, and release, gently but firmly. Up... up hips... back.. shoulders.. into your arms, then into your hands, fingers, then shake your fingers of all that shit you've brought into them. Then just sit into your hips and feel your fingers. Your back... your knees.. your head. Then close or open your eyes... and listen ... and lift your hands and put them on your legs and listen to the world around you and feel your shoulder. feel the muscles... separate them and listen to each one and move them or into them. And do this for a while and then go out and join a march against idiocy or cook a really difficult and simple meal.. or have violent sex with a beautiful person... and then read a book. Or don't. I don't care. just have good sex, okay? Good. Now, go forth and make us proud and send every one of us lots of money, and thank you. :)

Very Nice Topic discussed..Great Show Armin..good going..when people prepare for competitions there is an additional pressure on back of mind of the Archer..which , infact should'nt be there. as Archery is meant to reduce pressure / stress and control emotions, not to take burden on mind. :)

It's videos like this one that make me wish I could give more than one thums up. Very powerful stuff. Thanks for the reminder Armin. We all need one from time to time. For me, I had a really bad time after breaking up with my girlfriend of 7 years. And she was the one who introduced me to these spiritual practices. So after that all of it reminded me of her. Being in the now was extremely difficult, so alcohol was my way out. Which did not help in the long run. Now, archery is what helped me regain focus. This is why I fell in love with it.

First, I am delighted with your yt channel. I'm a relatively new archer and your advice will mean a lot to me. Secondly, I want to share with all beginners, and even the more experienced ones, what I experienced in my first on my own shooting. The first time I use the bow, with my friend and instructor I hit the center. And then several times in a row. My ego suddenly jumped and I fell into the trap for beginners. I thought I was a great shooter. I was terribly wrong. A couple of days later, I invited friends to show them my new bow. The day was nice, so we made a barbecue and drink beer. By then, I was happy and perfectly balanced. The shooting was okay. Then, a few beers later, there was a quarrel about some of the small things between friends. I was drunk and angry. I thought the shooting could calm me down. But I've missed the target. Badly. I broke two arrows. The price for stupidity and inexperience was low. Just two arrows. NEVER, NEVER shoot and drinking and if you are angry.

It was very interesting what you said about the inner sound. As a performing musician I suffer from tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears) which is a real problem for me, causes depression and sometimes makes it very hard to focus on my archery. You inspired me to try to use it to my benefit instead of desperately trying to forget about it. That's a new approach and I thank you for this.

I was thinking the same thing, Tinnitus. I have the incessant high tone, like the whine/squeal from an old fly back transformer on a CRT based TV screen or computer monitor. It started near the end of my military service but got more frequent as I got older until it is most always there and distracting. Especially in quiet times like when trying to go to sleep or read in a quiet room. Multitude of causes, usually repetitive exposure to loud sounds but also can be from neurological disorders, head trauma, psychological or psychiatric issues, high blood pressure, ear infections and even triggered by changes in altitude, etc... Many people have paid big money trying to get it to go away and/or give them a few seconds of relief after years of that irritating, incessant noise. I too should try to learn to live with it by taking a set time to embrace it rather than trying to block it out. Sometimes the effort put in to trying to block it out from my attention becomes annoying in and of itself! Lol Perhaps meditative archery will do the trick for some relief.... it's either that or I just may already be an archery tone Guru and didn't even know it! Lol Hope you found some relief. Just curious, has the archery approach to the tinnitus helped you in dealing with your tinnitus asides from any improvement in archery skills?

Armin you're a wiseman !!!🙏😊🙏 I appreciate how you see archery in a global way of life and beeing. Shooting in full consciousness is the key . I do experiment what you say about emotions and shooting (and then , the target "aspires" the arrow.). Living each second of our life in consciousness ..whatever you're doing ..that's the secret!!! Realy happy having discovered you on youtube these last months !!!!👍😄 Each video you make is a gift !! Friendly Richard Lionheart 😎🇫🇷

Such a small thing, but so effective. Some people might not find it as helpful, but for me, it's awesome. On the other hand, some of the wisdom you share here if for sure beificial for everyone. Be in the moment.

When "your" on the range; only three things exists, 1. the bow, 2. the arrow, and 3. the target. Nothing else is in the world/moment. There is only one goal in the world/moment and that is to shoot "this one arrow" (that's currently in/on your bow, the other arrows in your quiver don't exist in this moment) at the target. As far as my personal happiness, I won't truly be happy until I'm six feet under and the world be damned (I have a very "dark" view of the world.

This is one of the most important aspect of archery, you will struggle with this if you want to be accurate, no matter what words you use to explain this or what culture background you have, or if you want to make it spiritual or not. You just need to "empty" your mind to shoot correctly. I really like how you talk about it Armin, and even more the fact you bring this in a video, it's a really hard to describe process but a critical one nonetheless. I learn my kid to shoot, and when he is around my accuracy is just way worth for many reasons, but it's worth it though.

I've used this technique for years. My partner in love and music back in the early 80s was a yoga instructor who, though she knew I would never listen to her, told me a few things I've never forgotten and have carried with me into these later years. I can fall into a state of ready without preamble and sit there with just the idea of doing so and maybe a breath. Its as easy as breathing. I'm just there. Its concentration and yet at the same time its the same as before... but, I can sit and relax. I can relax my whole body and benefit from it. Its also street for me... cos, its this place where I'm watching my environment but at the same time I'm aware and I"m also accepting that this is what it is. So I just walk. If something happens then I'm already prepared, as much as I could be prepared, and it unfolds. And it is an event that ends. And the event's prepercussions are to be dealt with, if important.

I'm no expert on anything, but I'd like to share this. thank you again to my dear lover. Sit. Cross legged, back straight. Or lay down, it doesn't matter. Imagine you're standing at the top of a stairwell in an apartment building. In front of you is a short walk and the opposing apartment door. See it... now walk across and make the left onto the stairwell and walk down to the turn and then down to the next floor. Turn.. see it... see the opposing apartment and walk towards it and turn, onto the stairwell and down. keep going down. Go down... and then when ready you turn and instead of an opposing apartment you see a mirror. Walk up to the mirror. Relax and look at the mirror. You will see yourself. Now... see yourself as you wish.... look at your self. See yourself as you wish or want you to be. Take your time. When ready turn around... and walk back up. See every floor, every turn..and walk up and back out of your unconsciousness, back to the now and go out and be you.

Archery always calms me down. Maybe this can help. 1. Stance as per 3 arch by Armin. 2. While slowly lifting my bow and arrow , I breathe in. 3. While drawing , I slowly exhale while focusing on the target, then release as soon as I reached the my anchor point. May I call it Tai Chi Draw? Armin is right about the breathings.
