This is the last appearance Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton made together. This aired on April 24, 2000. Carroll passed away June 21, 2001. Jean passed away May 31, 2013.
Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton were iconic actors best known for their roles on the groundbreaking television show All in the Family.
Carroll O'Connor played the character Archie Bunker, a working-class man with strong opinions and often controversial views. O'Connor's portrayal was both comedic and poignant, showcasing Archie’s complexity and vulnerability. He brought a unique blend of humor and depth to the role, which made Archie a beloved yet polarizing character.
Jean Stapleton portrayed Edith Bunker, Archie’s sweet-natured and optimistic wife. Edith was known for her kindness, patience, and ability to defuse tense situations with her gentle demeanor. Stapleton’s performance added warmth to the show, making Edith a beloved character in her own right. Her ability to balance humor with heartfelt moments contributed significantly to the show's success.
Together, O'Connor and Stapleton created a memorable on-screen couple that tackled social issues and family dynamics in a way that resonated with audiences. Their chemistry and performances left a lasting impact on television history.
Donny & Marie was a daytime talk show that aired from 1998 to 2000. This version maintained the sibling duo's musical roots while also adopting a more traditional talk show format.
Format: The show featured interviews with celebrity guests, musical performances, and comedy sketches. Donny and Marie often showcased their chemistry and humor through lighthearted banter and playful interactions.
Segments: Each episode included various segments, such as cooking demonstrations, lifestyle tips, and audience participation, creating a friendly and engaging atmosphere.
Music: The show frequently included musical numbers, allowing the duo to perform both classic hits and contemporary songs, appealing to a wide range of viewers.
Impact: While it didn’t achieve the same level of popularity as their original variety show, Donny & Marie still resonated with fans of the Osmond family and attracted new viewers. The show reflected the 90s pop culture and offered a nostalgic experience for those who grew up with the original program.

Jean is such an elegant person. They're both very sophisticated, didn't expect that. I used to binge watch this when it used to air on tv land but never saw them out of character. I have a new appreciation for their acting after seeing this. Also, they're so humble and kind to one another, giving each other credit, love seeing that.

+Moses Sofer ... If she wasn't grateful, I highly doubt she would have agreed to do this interview. I have personally met Jean Stapleton as well as Carroll O'Connor in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were there for a charity event. My mother and I both were working for a catering service, we were servers. Mr. O'Connor and Mrs. Stapleton were seated at the same table (which was my table), long story short, they were both just as nice, polite and very generous to me and my mother (when I introduced her to them). So please stop bashing Mrs. Stapleton, I really think it's unfair and harsh of you to judge this lady when you didn't even know her.

@@barbaranelson8617 ...definitely...the show was still good after they left, but most of the comedy was gone...almost all of it after Larry Linville left and Klinger(Jamie Farr) ceased his section 8 antics...most of the "replacement" characters were o.k. to good...Col. Potter(Harry Morgan) was very good...Major Winchester(David Ogden Stiers) was good, once they stopped trying to make him like Frank Burns...B.J. Hunnicutt character, I never liked...too weak, never "edgy" like Trapper, a "yes man"to Alan Alda, and (very distant) second fiddle to him...I think Alan Alda wanted it that way..nothing against Mike Farrell, who was an excellent actor, and I believe a great person...in fact, the B.J. character probably would have been much more cringe-worthy had he not have been played by Farrell....

They were co-workers, who helped each other become very wealthy playing their respective characters of Edith and Archie. However, in real life, real friends would attend the other’s funeral. She was not there. She chose her work in theatre, and sent her regrets. Her choice. Mr. O’Connor may “have seemed generally surprised and pleased to see her” as you say. He certainly appeared that way on the show. But: They were not “two old friends.” They were two former co-workers. Sorry to shatter your illusions!

This one of the problems with our world today. People take things that were said in shows and movies decades ago and to this day say they hated them because they were racist and bigots. Yes, they were 100%! But did the producers glorify it? No! Who were the characters that always lost in the end? Whose opinions were almost always proven wrong, and the butt of everyones' jokes on the show? Think about that. This was the only time we got to see these two legends together on a talk show and those hosts almost ruined the whole experience. You don't interrupt your guests, particularly when they're telling interesting stories and you don't wave a $20 bill at Jean Stapleton and expect her to perform like a trained circus animal! Hosts aside, I'm so glad this footage exists! It shows they really admired and respected each other and there was genuine affection between them.

@@suzanneprock7286 I'm good, really. Disappointed that this is the only interview we have of these legends and was handled so poorly. Being younger doesn't prevent me from admiring and respecting in the present talented and dignified people like O'Connor and Stapleton and their wonderful work (dated, yet still so relevant). Donnie and Marie were probably good for their audience back then, but not so good to their guests, prioritizing cheap laughs at the expense of some possible discomfort. One needs empathy and self reflection to realize that some of the popular people back then did some disrespectful things without even realizing it. Didn't make them evil or horrible. Just a mediocre reflection of their time. Donnie and Marie are an example.
