Architect Designs a Concrete Super House With a Modern Interior Design (House Tour)

The exact sum of its parts, The Gallery House features spaces both grand and small, each expressing their own narrative. Crafted by Workroom, the super house stands as an exemplary piece of interior design and architecture.
Situated in the well-established suburb of Toorak, The Gallery House sits amongst other large family homes and gardens. Despite its spatial openness, the super house is designed in allusion to experiences yet to come, flowing towards other aspects of itself and its context.
A house tour of the property reveals the extent of its size. A true super house, the residence contains 4 bedrooms, 2 lounge rooms and vast, double-height voids. Workroom purposely conceals the size of the home from the street, creating anticipation and intrigue, using a curved concrete wall to the entry as a reveal of what is to come.
The modern materials of concrete, terrazzo, timber and stone feature consistently in the super house. Subverting expectations, Workroom uses the characteristically heavy concrete to craft an elegant staircase that appears effortlessly lightweight, whilst timber and green stone facilitate an open connection to the lush landscaping.
Embracing a raw materiality, Workroom creates a super house that will gracefully express the passage of time. With the capacity to visually evolve with age, The Gallery House is a successful interpretation of modern refinement.

You get the sense that in australia they really appreciate craftsmanship and Blue Collar labour, and that just leads to finishes which are almost impossible anywhere else, theres such a respect for the craft. There should be everywhere.

Beautiful home . . .I appreciate and enjoy seeing the satisfaction of the architect because he has designed a home that his clients love with a very cool staircase. Yes, additional the idea that the garden will grow and become another element to the home is quite wonderful. The use of water pools or fountains in the yard creates a serene mood.

@ewmagency

I think there are some pockets that feel warm and inviting, but on the whole, I agree: it's all so sophisticated and austere that it feels a bit intimidating to inhabit. We're probably just miles removed from the demographic that can afford it.
@alexbarcovsky4319

That would be the overuse of concrete and those huge ceilings. Rarely can one have double height ceilings and feel at home, its just too much.
@aeasthouse316
@aeasthouse316 2 года назад
@@alexbarcovsky4319 thats the beauty of architecture, I love double volume spaces (when done right)! There is nothing more luxurious and liberating than experiencing great spaces. Don't get me wrong, you want a mixture of cosy intimate spaces but contrasting that with a majestic rich double volume is spectacular. But, its not just about the double volume, as with any other space its about its proportion, materials, light, over-scaled windows and doors, textures and so on that makes it a great space or a depressing space.
@daryldraws8083
@daryldraws8083 2 года назад
It has brutalist-industrial type of design, yes very much alike with the public spaces. But for sure, it was an intended outcome. It showcases the bareness/rawness of the materials and rejected the well-polished, comforting texture treatments that make a space more "homey". It wants to be honest and exposed. The vegetation that envelopes the surroundings gives that much needed vibe and the rawness of the materials provide that seamless continuity that merges nature with the man-made structure. I would personally consider it a modern interpretation of a cave dwelling, not homey, but essentialist, and cave-like because of how it conceals itself from the facade and only reveals what more there is once you enter it, and also how nature seems to still take over and crawl towards it.
@Alby911
@Alby911 2 года назад
@@alexbarcovsky4319 I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion to be honest. We will never know how the owner feels unless we step into their lives. Design is just too subjective and personal, especially when it comes to homes built for a family.
