"Doomsday" evolved from a song that was originally part-written by former Architects lead guitarist Tom Searle during sessions for the band's seventh album All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us.[2] Following the guitarist's death on 20 August 2016, his brother Dan (the group's drummer) completed the song's lyrics in preparation for its release.[3] The track was ultimately credited to Architects as a collective.[4] Searle commented upon its release that "Completing it for him was a massive responsibility".[5] The lyrical themes within "Doomsday" have been related to Searle's death by critics, especially lines such as "they say the good die young".[6] Writing for Noisey, Tom Connick explained that the song "is about [Dan's] conflicted feelings regarding the loss, and is a marker of Architects' poise in the face of extreme sadness".[7]

Gone with the Wind is a song Tom actually wrote about his cancer and Memento Mori is his swan song. Very deep shit so get your tissues.

Memento Mori It is literally impossible to listen without goosebumps the entire song.

When you spoke about the lyrics, they were written by Dan(Tom's twin and the drummer in the band) afaik. If you're doing more Architects then go with something similar to this, Gone With The Wind (which was written by Tom) tear's will occur i assure you.

Perfectly describing Architects. Special. Sam Carter's vocal performances on songs is so fucking captivating, you can't help but be mesmerised by him. Whether he's being soft and singing at you, or shouting down at you, he's fucking incredible. Unbelievable band.

Architects has so many good songs Like I can't even count them on a single hand. Have fun diving deep into their material they are definitely worth it!

brought back the goosebumps I got when I first heard this. such a heavy song in terms of emotional depth, and just as heavy sonically. I think Dan wrote a majority of the lyrics, but I'm sure the rest of the band helped out as well as they were relevant to all of the guys. Early Grave, Numbers Count For Nothing, Follow The Water, Day In Day Out, These Colours Don't Run, Even If You Win, and anything off of their two most recent records. honestly just one of those bands who doesn't write bad songs. I'd suggest going through their catalogue chronologically before even thinking about Memento Mori haha. that one's the heaviest to me because of what it was for Tom.

Funny you mention Heart of a Coward, as, *deep breath*, that band actually ties in to Architects as the singer from HOAC was the former singer in Sylosis, and Sylosis' current singer/guitarist is Josh Middleton (musical and riff writing genius), who is now Tom Searle's replacement in Architects! BTW, Sylosis are an incredible British modern thrash band, highly underrated and under exposed. I’m a hardcore Architects fan... Pausing their music to explain your opinion and skipping their music in a reaction video is, straight off, painful to watch. This is my first time watching any of your reactions and I have to say “I wish you would listen all the way through and then review your feelings because their music is very cerebral and full of emotion.” I’ve seen them live 3 times (once with Tom. I spoke with them each time and they are amazing humans so it’s a whole package that a lot of people don’t fully associate with but some do. Happy listening.
